I was part of the Woodstock generation. Personally I believe this is his absolute best song since he plays so many styles on this one song. His voice also worked well on this song, as well as “Hey Joe” and others.
It's the song. Not just the guitar. He is a solid musician who knows the feeling of a song. Even his voice depicts that. The drums the bass, everything shows that all the musicians were into it.
Hendrix is a Rock and Roll God. Still on the throne, after all these years. No shredder can de-throne him. He played the guitar like it was part of him. To me this was the greatest cover-version of a rock song, of all time.
This cover of Dylan's All Along the Watchtower was sanctified by Dylan as The Version - he basically handed the song over to Jimi when he heard it for the first time. Dylan was an inspiration to Hendrix - between his song writing and his "terrible" voice - Jimi hated his own voice but figured if Dylan could get away with singing, maybe he could too . . . both of them are icons in music and particularly in songwriting (albeit Dylan will forever be # 1 in that category - won a nobel prize for his lyricism to seal that, too, btw). Loved the reaction - love watching you young guys discover the talent, insight and courage of these artists (check out Dylan's Masters of War, The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll, Hurricane) to see some of that courage. Enjoy the journey - it's well worth it.
Yes! Jimi Hendrix made his guitar talk, scream, and cry. I was in 4th grade when he came out, and he has been such a special part of my musical history/heritage. The "Jimi Hendrix Experience" was the 2nd album I ever bought.
If you lay between two speakers you can hear distinctly the music going over your head then through your head then back over your head. How Jimi produced that effect is a feat that I have never seen reproduced.
greatest electric guitar player ever, killer voice, great song writer (though this is a Dylan song), Jimi Hendrix is in the pantheon of guitar gods, the John Coltrane of rock music, a visionary who died too young.
Your reactions are great, it’s nice to see young people appreciate old music. If you have time I would really like to see you react to....Soul sacrifice.... live at Woodstock 1969. I was there with my dad, uncle and cousin at the time I was 13. I also saw jimmy Hendricks he was the last performance, good memories. Appreciate your consideration..thanks
Jimi still graces my wall along with Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison! We lost all of them too soon. You need to check out the live version of “Hey Joe”. He plays the guitar with his teeth and behind his head. At Monterey Pop Festival he set his guitar on fire 🔥 💜👵🏼✌🏼
Glad you are taking time to listen to some of the real greats of Rock n Roll. There's a documentary about Jimmy and it has one of the greatest stories I ever heard. Jimmy was spotted to open for The Rolling Stones. The Stones at the time were huge like the Beetles huge. Jimmy went to Mick Jagged (the Stones lead singer) and said you all should go out first cause you don't want to follow me. Mick laughed. Jimmy went out and absolutely destroyed. The Stones watched the performance and refused to go on stage
2 things happened in the 1960's: The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix! I saw Jimi May 8, 1970 at The old Sooner Fieldhouse in Norman Oklahoma. It was the Concert I could not miss!! He played 2 shows that night, I was there for both!!! I'm a white boy, and I cried like a Baby the day he died! Still wonder what he would have achieved had he not passed so young.......... I have that Concert on CD. A Friend recorded it on a Cassette so, I listen to every now and then...
i played all his stuff 40 yrs ago, he was an anomaly, the question has always been where did he get it from, no-one taught him to play the way he did. he originated techniques that were unknown and people are still trying to emulate him.
yeah, he played some extraordinary lines on this song and on that whole Electric Ladyland album for that matter. He had notes on his guitar that couldn't be found on others. One of a kind, never to be duplicated.
LoL yes the panning! Jimi's engineer eddie kramer were as creative in the studio as Jimi was musically. You also gotta check out Voodoo child live at woodstock, hear my train a comin from Berkeley. Pali gap. And the greatest of all: Machine Gun on band of gypsys. Welcome to Jimi, my friend! There's so many more amazing songs too!!
Jimi, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison started the 27 club, those 3 were at the top in popularity & Fame when they died and they died pretty close to each other in time. Jimi, died Sept 18, 1970, Janis Joplin, died Oct 4, 1970, Jim Morrison died July 3, 1971. Everyone else who has died at that age has become a member since then. I believe there was a feeling among the fans, that it seemed suspicious that Jimi, Janis and Jim happened to die when they did. Like it wasn't natural. There was a 'Vibe' among us fans, and it had nothing to do with their age.... the number was just coincidental. I think in each case, we were all sort of suspicious of the fact that they suddenly died and we knew they were hated by The Establishment.
@halhansen778 0 seconds ago One of his biographies had him playing at breakfast with a bunch of people, but just listening to the conversations (and the electric guitar not plugged makes no noise), him trying to re-create their conversation moods flows rythyms, in real time. I think that’s how he learned to make the guitar feel like it’s talking.
Here is my top 6 goats of the guitar 🎸 Jimi Hendrix , Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jeff Healey, Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, Slash of Guns and Roses and of course Prince 💔 need to check them all out !!
He was dead before you were born….so, no shit you never saw him. This is not his song btw….it’s an epic cover Genuinely appreciate the reaction…he changed music
Why is it black people dont know jimi Hendrix he was the highest grossing act in the late 60s 90%white people could you imagine if he had the same with black people hes the goat
Man, you were clearly born in the wrong era. You would not have believed the late 60's and all of the 70's. Mind blowing musicians suddenly erupted from nowhere from everywhere.
We all have our tastes…and Vai has an amazing skill set, for me personally, too technical and zero soul…which I’m guessing is why most people would have to google him. Again, not dissing your point of view in any way. Art is like that; eye of the beholder. Respect to you
@@sst3d ok bat dats redicoulous .. just look at video of him performing tenderr surrender.. bro is defenition of having of playing soul.. maybe u confused him with yingwie malmstien -... the soulless technician ... idk
Jimi is the greatest😂As a white french guy, i worked as a roadie, on a lot of great concerts in France, and i saw à lot of great bands: PINK FLOYD, ROLLING STONES, CLAPTON, DIRE STRAITS, SANTANA, DEEP PURPLE, AC/DC, BEN HARPER, ETC.....😂I'm 43 years old, so i was too young to see my 2 favourites: Jimi Hendrix Experience, and Led Zeppelin! But, with all my experiences, and after 30 years i'm playing guitar, everyday, i can tell you this: JIMI HENDRIX IS THE GREATEST GUITARIST OF ALL TIME, AND, ONE OF THE 5 GREATEST MUSICIAN, COMPOSER, IN HUMAN HISTORY, LIKE MOZART, CHOPIN, BEETHOVEN, BACH, OR JIMMY PAGE.....THEY'RE NOT HUMAN BEINGS😂JIMI was chose by the gods to be THE MUSIC😂Peace from France ✌️
Jimi to the guitar is nothing other than a God. All others bow
Crazy how a 60 year old song can still blow your mind !!!
JIMI= THE GREATEST GUITARIST THAT EVER LIVED.
Not just a fantastic guitar pioneer but Hendrix had a wonderful soulful voice, a passionate growl perfectly suited to his music.
yep,
You would find all the major guitarist would agree wit🎉h you, there are still sounds he made they haven't figured out yet😢
And a true poet!
I was part of the Woodstock generation. Personally I believe this is his absolute best song since he plays so many styles on this one song. His voice also worked well on this song, as well as “Hey Joe” and others.
My favorite, period! Saw him live in '68 when I was 14. He was humble, gentle, brilliant, phenomenal.
Famous line from a movie “ are listening to Jimi Hendrix? Or are you hearing him ?”
It's the song. Not just the guitar. He is a solid musician who knows the feeling of a song. Even his voice depicts that. The drums the bass, everything shows that all the musicians were into it.
Now you understand why he is a legend
Jimi wasn't PLAYING the guitar, he WAS the guitar.
Hendrix is a Rock and Roll God. Still on the throne, after all these years. No shredder can de-throne him. He played the guitar like it was part of him. To me this was the greatest cover-version of a rock song, of all time.
The definitive version of this Bob Dylan classic!
On DylanHwriter of the song) told Hendrix it’s HiS song because of how great his rendition was
A left handed mother effing genius. No one made a guitar weep like Hendrix brah!
With an upside down guitar. LoL. The guitar was part of Jimi.
That solo. Chills and tingles every time.
The greatest guitarist of all time. I saw hendrix play in toronto in 1969. I was blessed.

Dylan's musicians play the Hendrix version of "All Along the Watchtower".
He loved it - honestly, who wouldn't - so fantastic. @@sharonhoyt2133
It was such a damn shame he left this world so young. He seemed such a gentle soul with so much raw passion and genius talent, a legend indeed.
Jimi was called away because God wanted guitar lessons.
He takes us all to another place!! We had never heard any thing like this.
He changed music for REAL!
Yes! Jimi Hendrix made his guitar talk, scream, and cry. I was in 4th grade when he came out, and he has been such a special part of my musical history/heritage. The "Jimi Hendrix Experience" was the 2nd album I ever bought.
Thank you for reacting to the most amazing guitarist of all time.
If you lay between two speakers you can hear distinctly the music going over your head then through your head then back over your head. How Jimi produced that effect is a feat that I have never seen reproduced.
We really thought he was indeed from another dimension- a funky space alien! Saw him in San Jose in ‘69! ❤
Wait til you see Hendix live 🎸🤘🏽💜

Yea, Jimmy was awesome. When I grew up in the late 60s, early 70s, Jimmy had a Godlike status among musicians and his fans. ...and rightfully so !
Oh yeah, me too. This was the era when the walls were spray-painted with "Hendrix is God" or "Clapton is God". ;D
You said it! Jimi made that guitar talk and sing! Great video!
He was an amazing talent.
Your reactions are great, it’s nice to see young people appreciate old music. If you have time I would really like to see you react to....Soul sacrifice.... live at Woodstock 1969. I was there with my dad, uncle and cousin at the time I was 13.

I have been enjoying the music of Jimi since 1969,there has been no one else like him since then,it's just ashame we lost him so early.
You get it.
Hendrix. A church musician. A Veteran. Pretty much the gold standard he is. The epic episode in Battlestar Galactica pretty much says it all.
Glad to see you got those headphones. It makes the experience all the better!
HENDRIX was amazing! Legend for sure! Number one in my book. 😊 🎉
The Goat!! You got to watch him live!
A song i never want to end.. guitar filled brilliance!!

Jimi Hendrix, one of the best ever.
He’s also playing bass on this!

Why does your skin colour matter? You do realise most Hendrix fans were and still are white... he even lived in uk 😂 you aren't special.
