Global shutter is great, but I'll be really interested in seeing comparisons between the image quality of these and with the A7RV and A7IV

You don’t need that speed to shoot weddings. Nothing moves fast at a wedding. The fastest thing at a wedding is the tosses. I thought you would want the most resolution with the R series.

Exciting! Yeah, I was considering pairing it with A7RV, but I'm just too used to having 2 identical cameras and not thinking which one to use :P
I was thinking about doing the same thing. Presumably, you could put the A7rV in Medium RAW mode, and then the cameras could match from a resolution perspective. 26mp for the A7rV and 24mp for the A9 III! With the option to go up to 60mp for the rV when you need it.
I would have kept an A7R-V
And that would be a great choice too!

I just can't find a reason to spend that much money on 2 bodies. Just ordered the A7RV for 3k and it is a fantastic camera for the price for weddings. Gona pair it with my A7IV , maybe upgrade the A7iv in the future to A7V or RV, will see what the A7V is going to bring to the table.
I totally agree. I feel like 2x A7IV is still the best for the price for weddings, and pairing A7IV with A7RV makes a lot of sense!
You’re right, it is overkill but at the same time if you can afford them, why not?
Not everyone needs 120fps but the benefits of being 100% silent, no banding (especially with all the venues that have cheap LED bulbs) and the extra benefits of the AI chip do make it an amazing wedding camera. Plus the comfort of that grip 😍
Yup, exactly that. Shooting silent, no banding, sync flash at any shutter speed and all the newest features - it's a beauty camera!
Super high speed sync for daytime flash, better grip, 120 fps burst, AND a discount. That's an easy decision. Send me your discount code Magic! ;) I used to shoot with dual a9 when it first came out. I skipped on the a9II, but went straight to a dual a1 setup. Love it. YOu'll love the focus and silent shooting of the a9III !!!

Magic, I want to get trade in my 50mm GM f/1.4 and get a 35mm instead. I was hoping not to lose too much money in the process. Unforunately, the stores in the US are offering around $700 (glass is pristine, body 9/10). I wanted to get a used 35mm GM, but a similar condition model costs $1100 the same store (it's robbery, i tell ya). Ouch. I'm thinking of a new (or used) Sigma 35mm Art DG DN, instead. The lens is a bit heavier (640g vs 524g). Any thoughts? advice?

Welcome to the world of silent shooting! I was on the fence about these but went with the A1’s in the end - half regretting the choice because it’s too much detail in the skin. But couldn’t stomach the thought of paying so much money for the A9iii with image quality of a 5/6 yr old camera
A1's were so tempting to me as well! It's a great choice!

I just traded in a Sony A9ii for a Sony A7RV. That global shutter will be sweet!

So with the A9III have sony at long, long, long last made a body thats good in the hand ?. I went with the A1 which feels like a block of wood but I felt the 50mp would be more useful. Shooting in crop mode and still getting 21mp is so useful especially with primes. Apart from the feel, I am loving the A1

You will love the performance under LED light. I personal think, to not run into banding in all of these typical wedding/event locations would be the most important point to me.

Niiiice! Wondering if you’ll still use the crop mode (making a 24mm 35mm) or if you will switch lenses more often now than with the RV.
Nope :( sadly no more aps-c mode for me anymore… that’s the biggest minus
