    Please Note... I have changed the frequencies of my Baofeng BF888s handsets to PMR446 frequencies that are legal free to use frequencies in the UK, However to use these frequencies, You have to be using a radio with a fixed antenna and a max power output of 0.5w, the BF888s radios are a reported 5w and a removable antenna. You Rebels 😉👍

      The 888's run at .5 watt on low and 2 watts on high. The Ham Hawkers who sell these things often misreport this.

    • @justicejones5025
      @justicejones5025 Год назад +1

      @@HarryHamsterChannel you're find that 2 watts is more than enough to communicate with one another. The difference in range between the UV5R's 4 watts (or whatever it is) and the 888s transmitting at 2 watts, is nominal.

    • @HarryHamsterChannel
      @HarryHamsterChannel Год назад

      Absolutely. And a savvy radio user can actually use that to his advantage to extend battery life, among other things, depending on terrain. The ARRL advises just enough power to do the job.@@justicejones5025

    I did all this from the keypad on the uv-5r without a computer. You just have to decipher the language on the display. But looking at your screen display helped tremendously. Thank you 😊

    Now I found this and know we can use 2,3 and 15. Thanks a ton man, I really appreciate it! We have a UV-5R and a pair of BF-777s

    Its a long time since I used a radio, so this brought back memories. I thought the days of using radios had gone with mobile phones taking over.

      People aren't up for a challenge the way they once were. These radios default to a non-commercial "party line" of sorts, and are kinda fun. Both radios cost less than a month's cell phone bill.
      Women think they're sexy as hell ;-)

    My grandson has a pair of these. The 888S is set up to use amateurs bands but can be changed with Chirp. I set both to use FRS and GMRS frequencies (in US). I just put in the first 16, but is possible to enter a repeater as well, if there is one around.

      Yes I gave my grandkids the 888s, all reprogrammed to pmr channels. They love them because they don't look like little kids toys if you get me. We gave them kids walkie talkies and they didn't bother with them 👍

    Had a couple of the UV5R's since they were silly money . I even got the data cable , I think two years ago.
    Guess how many times I,ve used them other than testing in and around the house .
    Bloody ZERO !
    I always always forget them without fail . And kick myself everytime .
    Good bit of kit though.
    Good bit of info Jase . Thank you.
    Hope you and Deena are both ok ?
    P.S. Love the new build vlog

      Cheers matey... were both good thanks, I've changed 4 of my BF888s to PMR446 legal to use frequencies and have all the frequencies saved on my UV-5R radios but we're still not allowed to transmit because the radios have not been approved by the FCC and Ofcom and can't transmit from the BF888 because the antenna can be removed. Ridiculous, luckily there's still a few rebels lol 😉👍

    • @Fattrucker
      @Fattrucker Год назад

      @PrisonersNoLongerAccepted Yes I have heard of these "rebellious types" . They should be tarred , feathered and paraded through the streets .
      P.S. Do you know of any good tar removing solutions please ? Asking for a friend .

      I have a pair in the car. Found out they hold a charge for years. Both have car power accessories. The UV5R has a cigarette lighter adapter. The 888's have available adapters for USB.

    I've the same kit and a lot more and likewise not paying for the license. Good to see you've changed the antenna but don't forget the UV5R has different bands so you need to use the correct antenna when you switch to those other bands.
    Also, on the UV5R you can change individual channel properties in the menu system, chirp is easier though.

      Cheers man. I was speaking to a few large boat owners (sea going vessels) about their radios and was astonished at how many have no licence but the radio is there for a dire emergency. Lost at sea a little, I'm sure they aint going to jail over using the radio 🤣👍

      @@PrisonersNoLongerAccepted you can program the UV5R for marine band too, I've lost count of how many of those I've done for people. Also, did you know that licences are for commercial operations and not required otherwise (includes for travelling in your private conveyance [van] etc)

    • @PrisonersNoLongerAccepted
      @PrisonersNoLongerAccepted  Год назад

      I didn't know that. Does that include GMRS frequencies, I'm sure it doesn't, I was looking at programming one of my uv-5r radios, I have 3 now for Marine bands

      @@PrisonersNoLongerAccepted I'd have to check to chirp image file, I know it covered the first 40 or so channels ok and the other simplex ones and I set some up for reverse duplex to allow specific needs.

    Both great little radios. I have them both and use them on pmr446 even though technically they don't comply but i don't think ofcom are going to bother with a radio that is maybe a half a watt over power (on low power setting) and doesn't have a fixed antenna. Great fun radios, just remember to tune them to the pmr446 band and don't use them with the factory settings and you'll be fine. Enjoy and have fun and remember "height is might" so get on top of a hill and you'll be surprised at the distance you can make contacts on! 😎😎😎👍

    I once did a crash course in Radio Communications when I was out in Bosnia in 97, and we all had to be taught how to use a back pack radio. I only ever got the thing to work once. We needed to take them with us when going out in a Vehicle. Thankfully we never needed to use it, and they were soon phased out as I think that they realised that hardly anyone could use it with out being a fully trained Radio Operator. Or If we were Staging On (guard Duty) then it was .Then the last time I got close to radios was having a CB radio fitted in my Truck, mainly used when traffic slowed or stopped or in winter when loading Sugar Beet, for getting called forward to be loaded if we where loading on a road that we would possibly block if to many of us were there waiting to load.

    Delete the tones on the UV 5R and the 888s. You can have the same tones on the both if you really want to but it is complicating matter for you. You really don’t need them for PMR.

    To anyone interested. If you want to be able to transmit from the UV-5R to the BF888s, I just came across this short. I did the programming in chirp first following this video and then I held down the 3 buttons in the short and turned it on so the screen says 'FACTORY'. It doesn't reset your programming, so don't worry! ruclips.net/user/shorts17xn4Vkj3v4
