There are two ways to plan an overland expedition, you can either go with the flow and see what happens, or make a rough plan. For the WA.NT Trip we decided to make life as easy as possible on the road by doing the bulk of the planning before starting out on our 4wd expedition.
In this video we show how we planned the trip, including destinations, meal planning, food shopping lists and costs.
Whether your going camping for a week or a month, hopefully you find this video useful. Авто/Мото
Literally the first time I've seen someone document their pre-trip planning! Great video
Man.. I have to say thank you for producing something so relaxing.. I love the smile on your faces and the natural and easy talking... Your friendship is also very cool!
Super organised boys. Very impressive indeed. 👍
Guys this is a top notch video , thanks heaps ! Currently planning our 3 month trip over east with the 3 kiddos and it's super helpful . We have done 4-7 day off road trips with lists and pre prepped food portions etc but I'm loving your lists !
Brilliant video mate.
Love how you guys share your ideas.
Will be great potential for you pair.
Brilliant video again Michael, you sure touched on a lot of points on how the plan as best as you can! I camp with kids and haven’t gone into this level of planning (guess I have a lot to learn), thanks again for sharing, keep up the great work and safe travels mate as always
It's interesting to see how much planning can, and probably should, go into a road trip hey. I've not done a 4 week trip (yet!) but I'm continually adding to my 'pre-trip checklist' as I go along and as I watch informative videos like this. Nice work mate!
10/10 great informative vid about something that so many people struggle with 👌
Thanks for the video guys! We are about to leave for the Kimberley and have been using your vids as a bit of a guide.
Cheers.
Well done. Great to see you share your planning
This is so frecking awesome!! We are currently working fitting the car with dual battery solar system. First goal is Gibb River Road. Thanks for uploading and sharing😁
Great stuff guys, I have been doing lists for trips for over a decade and some of my mates laugh at me but for me, and like you it makes it easy. Your lists are at another level so thanks for that. I will review my own and adopt your detail. Keep dong what you do, most enjoyable... thanks ... JB
I did a trip to Cape York in 2014 with 4 other people for 4 nights travelling and 5 nights on site. I did the same with the trip planner, meal planner and schedule, they all gave me curry for being OCD but at the end they were much more appreciative when it all worked out for food, fuel, water etc. I’m also a fan of the vacuum sealer and freezing portions! Another good vid Michael & Mischa. Thank you!
Thanks lads, that document will help me out heaps!
You guys are awesome.... Hello from Texas...... Just starting out taking adventures...... Love your ideas on planning
I'm so glad I'm not the only one planning things out like that....
So chilled out, love it! :D
I like how organized you guys are
I am so impressed. Here I am 3 weeks away from my cape trip and I am starting to think I might need to be somewhat organised :)
Sometimes the spontaneous trips are better, everyone is different 🙂. Have a great trip up to the cape Stephen! 👍
Creating the shopping list beforehand is a new one. Great idea.
Good job guys.. Great series..
Loving the channel guys and always like to find new ways to use google docs in our planning! My girlfriend is a list freak so she’ll love this!!
Nicely done fellas. I wish more of these channels did these "hits and misses" vids. Especially with the food layout and itinerary. Definitely stealing from your food planning documents. 😁
Awesome prep work boys
Look both of you good bloke, Smart holiday!
Hi Im going on road trip from 22nd of july to broome , darwin and alice springs.
Your videos are really helpful.
Cheers
A very good story time :)
Good stuff!
Fabulous video. Very helpful.
Good video guys 👍🏻
Very nice! Thank you!
Pretty much impressive plan
That's rad... Well planed...I didn't know you boys were so smart...LOL...👍😜...
Don't worry, we didn't know we were either....
Always interesting, always amazing! Apologizes not necessary!
Nice one guys. Great little guide well planned 👍😎 just cooked the Bush Echidna’s but had to cook in normal oven turned out pretty. Cheers guys 😎👍👍👍
Hey Phillip! Good to know, I have always wondered if they would work in a normal oven or not! Thanks for the comment 👍
@@SeekAdventure just had another one sweet and sour noodles also nice. 👍👍😎
Well done guys
awesome ideas
We are in the middle of planning for Shark Bay and it is starting to feel like the two months before we go just isn't enough. Maybe we are over-planning a bit but our last major trip (where we broke down on the way to Broome) was a disaster. We are hoping that this time we will cover everything. Your trip covered so much ground and so many places, all we have to do is sit on the beach for 2 weeks :) Can't wait to see what you do next. I think I will pinch your shopping list for our trip, one job I can tick off without doing much - haha
Atleast it sounds like your trip is going to be a very relaxed one 🙂.
We just wanted to see as many places as time allowed, atleast if we ever go back up that way, we know where we would spend more time.
Have a great time up at Shark Bay! I am always blown away by how much sea life there is up there.
Cheers for the info lads
Great advice and info, thanks! What kind of vacuum sealer do you use? Thanks
Bloody fantastic way to do long trips. Planning ur meals doesn't mean u have eat A, B, C but u know u have enough without over buying & over loading.
That's it Matt! Its not all baked beans and 2min noodles! 👍
Love the idea of the vacuum sealer, can your recommend a brand pretty please :) and inspecting your meat may get you arrested in a car park ::0
What is the brand of your frame mounted cargo box? Would love one for my Tacoma. Great video content!
watched a few or all your vids and bloody great work, to be honest be good enough for a tv series and you should follow that idea up, and if you do remember who it was that told you to do it lol, ok. if your ever over in qld hit me up for a fraser or moreton island trip, or bay island trip with a few of the local suspects.
What about all the grog
Haha Neither of us drink much at all 👍. Best part is you can do a big trip without having a 40L fridge full of beer 👌
Top stuff guys. Any chance I can get a copy of your meal plan/shopping list.
Do I see a new name ? Cool :)
No apologies necessary. Did you get back the small container ok?.
Loved the lay~back interview chat style. You guys come across very relaxed (even 'though you may have felt otherwise :) ).
Well done. Nice explanations without too many frilly bits.
Michael are you thinking of doing (or have you already) a vehicle/camping preparation talk~through?.
Perhaps with input from others as well?.
Thanks for the feedback mate, glad you enjoyed the video.
I could definitely look at doing a video about that, thanks 🙂
Hi guys, love all your videos., very informative, relaxed, and a good laugh. Just wondering what you both do for jobs to get so much time off ? Also what month of year did you do this trip ?
Hey Rob, thanks for the feedback! Glad you enjoy the videos. We went in August, June is usually the ideal time of year to head up there though 🙂. I run a small business that allows me to be pretty flexible, and Meischa just has a great boss!
Pool Noodles! You should find a permanent compartment space in your truck to store pool noodles in so the next time you guys visit a hot springs, you have pool noodles to use.
Currently planning mid-year Gibb trip, your videos are a massive help! One question, how did you calculate your drive times? Google maps seems way off. Can you give any advice/tips about average speeds/drive times on the Gibb? Keep up the great work!
Hey Andy, Awesome!
For on road driving we usually allow an hour for 100km, because usually we sit on a 100km/h. If we are doing a full day like around 800km, I usually allow 1.5hrs of stops, so I estimate it will take us 9.5 hrs. Obviously it depends on if your in convoy or have a family, that will always make for more rest stops.
On the Gibb I think we usually sat on around 80-90km/h, you have to watch the flood ways/dips in the road, some can be pretty savage. Both times I have done the Gibb I have run 25psi and never had tyre trouble.
The tracks off the Gibb to the gorges are usually a little slower.
All the best with you planning, I hope you have an awesome trip 👍🙂
Could I suggest a set of plastic drawers each instead of the tub/box?
Pretty much.😃
😁👍
Good tips. What month were you in Litchfield and Kakadu?
In August 🙂
Great video mate! What hat u wearing btw?
Ta 🙂. Its an a hat by an Australian company calles 'Akubra' 👍🏻
Do they have any companies in Perth that would rent out a rig similar to his set-up?
My mates are hopeless lol
Great video guys. Your organisation is spot on, but please let go of the word “LIKE “. 😉👍
Can someone explain to me what a WA.NT trip is? Like what does that mean?
On the trip we travel into two different states of Australia, WA and NT, I had to come up with some kind of name for it, so the video series was called the WA.NT trip 👍🙂
Western Australia and Northern Territory, a state and a territory of Australia.
Great video but a tad OCD.... 😉
What did the BT get per hundred average mate?
Oooo that's a tough question, I can't remember exactly, but it was somewhere in the 12-13L/100km range 🙂
I think I know who drove that whole process, eh Michael? Good job though - 5P's.
What cyrovac do you use mike?
Hey Ben, picked up one from Aldi while they had them for around $70, hasn't let me down yet 👍🙂
@@SeekAdventure legend mate, saw them for sale for $59 lol, but i bought the Kings one recently. Mate this video was so handy, i forced my Misses to watch the video hahaha
@@panibe00 Awesome, hey all do the same thing 👍🏻. Haha too funny 😂
no liquor?
Can I come on the next trip thank you
Shaun Allen Sure
David Handley sweet let’s get planning

How do you afford to do this?
one person has already disliked the video.
it must be your planning document
Interesting, I see 63 likes, zero dislikes. Y/T is manipulating again.

Pretty Much" 47 times
I counted 48..
No booze?
Play it at half speed and then you tell me if they have Booze 😆
Neither of us drink much at all 👍. Best part is you can do a big trip without having a 40L fridge full of beer 👌
Incredible - that’s part of the adventure. Literally your budget would be my drinking budget 🤦🏽♂️
Probably why I can never afford 4 weeks off 😂
First the worst!
Oh and by the way, you have major OCD. That trip planner is insane 😆
