Amazing place, great viewing guys..... it’s not well known, but myself and my father re-built that light house homestead on cape inscription behind the light house back in 2012 by hand, living off the land in those conditions in total isolation. There is 20 tonne of timber in that place, it took three months of hard work, eating and drinking only what was provided by dirk Hartog island....... it made for a great adventure and that location is unforgettable!

Good work guys - in fact much better than some of the 'professional' 4wd tv clowns that have toured the island. I had the good fortune to work there for four years. Your point about lowering tyre pressures is well made. Speed is also another factor. It seems that many visitors get on the island and have to drive flat out to the top end. And miss out on great places like Notch Point, my favourite lunch spot, which is rarely visited and even less frequently camped at. Not sure why you would have stayed at Dampiers Landing with no-one else on island. Hope you got to see the saltwater river running at Quoin Head. And the Blowholes are truly impressive ..... but only with the right swell.
Mate out of all the 4wd / travel shows I watch your photography / cinematography skills are by far the best and many of which have professional camera people and editors etc. Fully understand why ya gave it away but far out you have some talent and an amazing eye
My brother in law has always been into 4x4. I'll be honest and say I never "got it". Just seemed like a lot of hard work. But then I saw your video's and I must say.... I'm living overseas at the moment with the view to come back to Oz at some point. I think I might just have to get into this sort of thing. Amazing country!

I know this is an old video, but you should get some window flashing tape from a hardware store. Here in the US, we have ZIP brand. You could tape a car together with it. Plus waterproof

Sure thing! This is the recipe I normally use 1 1/2 cups self-raising flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 cup sugar 2 eggs 2 tablespoons butter, melted 1 cup (250ml) milk 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence I normally melt the butter in the pan that I am going to fry them in, and then I add the milk and warm that up a little bit as well, otherwise the butter goes solid because of the cold milk. Put the butter and milk mix into a bowl, add the eggs, vanilla essence followed by everything else and you'll be eating pancakes in no time 👍🙂
Awesome trip guys wish I was there. I was looking at Google Earth and at these coordinates-26.0703107, 113.1765768 the road makes a big detour. Why is that is there a mountain range there? Hope you're having a blast.
That is the track to access The BlowHoles with the apparent deviation to take advantage of a lower part of the dune. Not so much a mountain range - just a little dune crossing. It is typically all dug out as people don't lower their tyres, have a heavy right foot and/or need to take their trailer with them.

I have one more place I need to know about if you could tell me 26°06'38"S 113°13'20"E looks like it might have went by it right at the beginning. The only real green spot on the island. @@ronaldshepard4625 That location is vegetated with saltmarsh and mangroves. It is subject to regular seawater inundation. The island does green (and purple and yellow and blue!!) up after rain. The last few wildflower seasons have been particularly impressive - even moreso given that all of the sheep and feral goats have been removed. There are extensive areas infested with invasive grass (Buffel) introduced by early pastoralists but large areas of recovering native vegetation remain. Hey mate, his hat is an akubra which is the name of an Australian hat manufacturer and has been a round for many years. The hat he is wearing is called the ‘cattleman’. Lots of Australians like to travel around as out country is pretty big and to get anywhere new we have to drive a while, and with a lot of bush around regular cars struggle. Then there’s the remoteness of Australia, I live in Sydney, a pretty big city though I could drive a short while and be in harsh bush with nothing but me and nature so we need to have the gear to make that a comfortable experience. 4x4 here is definitely a sub culture all of it’s own and good to see the US getting on board. Glad it's given your some motivation to get there! 🙂 They are the sea kayaks that Anaconda sell, the brand is Seabird. They are pretty much the cheapest sea kayak you can buy, but they handle the ocean really well, I have been in some really gnarly conditions with mine and its always got me through 👍. Aslong as your balance is good, you be alright!
Just amazing. I have wanted to go to Dirk Hartog for a long time but probably won't get there. Hanging out to get to Tamala, just over 7 weeks to go. How did you go with water while you were there, were the tanks pretty dry by the time you left or did you have extra. We are trying to work out how much to take for a couple of weeks.
Western Australia Now and Then If you run out of water or fuel, you can get it from Kieran & Tory Wardell at the Lodge on the island. It’s just that they have to buy it up front & barge it over to the island and that’s not cheap to do, so you expect to pay $3 / litre for diesel on the island. No idea what they charge for water, the lodge which is the old sheep station homestead does have bore water that’s useable, so it shouldn’t be too expensive. There’s accoms available at the Lodge which are reasonably priced considering the remoteness. The hosts Keiran & Tory Wardell, you won’t find a nicer, friendlier, more hospitable couple anywhere in Oz. The Island when it was a pastoral lease was owned by their father (grandfather?) Tom Wardell, who founded a supermarket chain in WA called “Tom the cheap” grocers! So this is a founding family in WA. Dept CALM / DPAW have taken over the island lease now after its 99 year lease ran out but Kieran & Tory managed to keep freehold title on several parcels where the old homestead (now lodge) resides and some of the sheep shearing outstation areas. It’s 20 odd nautical miles by boat across to the lodge from Denham bye boat. Pretty awesome place by any standards to visit, whether by 4wd on the barge or by boat & stay at the lodge. Very fond memories of my visit around year 2000.

Only problem is we can carry around 160 litres and would usually need around 200 for 2 weeks so we think we are going to have to be pretty careful with what we take. We would love to go over to the island but it is on our wish list rather than our 'to do ' list. Thanks for the info.

Out of the 95L we took, I think we refilled our containers after 6 nights with about 15L to spare. Hopefully you will get by with 160L, if you use it conservatively 👍. It's always fun with water, so heavy and bulky to transport, but so necessary 🤐

Hey William, that would make sense! But the store we went too doesn't sell vehicle specific parts like hoses, the shop that would have the hose closed 15mins before we got into the town. We did the best we could with what we had to work with 🙂
No. (I worked there for 4 years). Not a place for Scooby Doo. Due to a limited, but unescapable, spots where a high clearance vehicle is required, ie. accessing Steep Point, entry/exit onto Barge from Blackeys beach, climb up onto main track from Cape Ransonnet, sand dunes at Tetradon Loop etc. Hire a full size vehicle if necessary - you will have a more relaxed trip.
Mate, do you think the BT50 could pull a 7 x 4 offroad trailer, weighing about 650Kg and on the same tyres/wheels as the BT50, through all these sand tracks?
Hey Gerben, I would say that you would have no problems at all. The sand tracks to get to the Island and on the island are quite corrugated though, so aslong as the trailer can suspension can handle that, you would be all good 👍
@@SeekAdventure If you took your drone up or stood up on a dune and looked down on the shallows you would have seen them i took video and stills from my drone and one still shot i can count 81 small sharks,i dont have any footage on you tube but if you look @ Philip Shuberts page you will get a good view of them,ive been to dhi many times and they have always been there maybe on your next trip there you will see them very special sight .PS nice video mate.

We took 160L all up, and in travelling around the whole island and getting back to Denham we used 136L 🙂

How was the fishing?
Mate, do you think the BT50 could pull a 7 x 4 offroad trailer, weighing about 650Kg and on the same tyres/wheels as the BT50, through all these sand tracks?
Hey Gerben, I would say that you would have no problems at all. The sand tracks to get to the Island and on the island are quite corrugated though, so aslong as the trailer can suspension can handle that, you would be all good 👍
While you were watching the crabs @surf point you didnt seem to notice the hundreds of sharks in the bay they are always there.
Didn't spot a single one there, maybe it was the wrong time of year for that spot. Saw plenty on the other sheltered bays of the island though!
@@SeekAdventure If you took your drone up or stood up on a dune and looked down on the shallows you would have seen them i took video and stills from my drone and one still shot i can count 81 small sharks,i dont have any footage on you tube but if you look @ Philip Shuberts page you will get a good view of them,ive been to dhi many times and they have always been there maybe on your next trip there you will see them very special sight .PS nice video mate.
