Charlie’s is unfairly comparing this comic book show to the best shows ever made. Like bro chill imagine if you compared every crime film to the Godfather
He sucks. I don’t know why you’d wanna be on a fandom podcast if you’re just a hater about every damn thing. Put him on a different pod and put him out of his misery. He doesn’t seem to enjoy it, and neither does the audience.
I appreciate Charles and his contribution to honesty and his truth... but man, I hate watching TV with guys like Charles lol. At what point do his' critiques become cynicism? He's comparing a show about a guy named "The Penguin" set in a universe where a man dressed as a bat is a vigilante to... The Wire? Because it's on HBO? He says he loves the over the top nature of Penguin in The Batman, but then beredes the over the top nature of the show. Like pick a side my guy. He doesn't like the "cartoony" feel of things, but it's literally about the a character, originated from a cartoon book. He takes some of these things too seriously and doesn't take certain aspects into account. He's not just hard to please, he's impossible. It's one thing to have a different opinion but it feels like Charles goes out of his way to dislike things and it kind of sours his takes for me. Sometimes I wonder why he continues to watch anything, just re-watch The Wire and The Sopranos.
Thing is guys like Charles can dish out harsh critiques but never usually end up contributing anything to the world of entertainment themselves. It's often through a deliberate attempt to stand out and be a contrarian or out of some bitterness that they don't have what it takes to creative their own IP.
I like having Charles on the pod and don’t hate having different opinions, the only thing is his critiques are always so vapid that he comes off as being pretentious. Like Van, Jomi, and Steve are having an extensive conversation and Charles is just sitting there with that face for like 5 minutes straight, looking like he’d rather be at a funeral.
Ngl I agree with Charles alot and value his perspective…BUT I swear this man sometimes finds literally ANYTHING to hate on and it’s not cool. Like bro fr “I dont wanna see collin waddling for 8 episodes”. That should get him off the penguin episodes. I mean at some points it’s like “dude are you serious?!” I feel like anyone else would be vetoed from critically analyzing this. Jomi’s face when listening to Charles 1:04:24
We need a list of shows Charles is "asking for" (honestly "nobody was asking for this" is one of the laziest criticisms) If we only got shows people were asking for what would we be watching? "Let's be real" guys 🙄
@@BornNguyenerI haven’t seen their episode yet, but I’ll probably watch their coverage of the show instead of this one. Charles is starting to make this unlistenable for me. I’m not even high on the shows, but I’m not going to sit and listen to some one complain for an hour every week. Even when House of R don’t like something they do a good job explaining why. He’s just like this isn’t better than that so what’s the point.
The problem with Charles is that he finds anything and everything to nitpick at. He doesn’t even try to keep an open mind about the shows that he’s watching.
Charles doesn't suck because he is a contrarian. He sucks because he isn't compelling or articulate enough to explain his POV in an interrsting way. If you need contrast on the show then go find a million better suited black men in America who could do this job.
The pilot episode of The penguin was great. Good writing, could storytelling, good acting. I actually came in expecting to hear positive feedback from Charles. Stupid me, I guess.
I get what dude is saying but I believe that’s the entire crux of the show and character of Penguin. The logical strategic side battling against the emotional irrational side. We see that in the first 10 min of the show. The son of Falcone is the heir and is someone he logically should be buddying up to but the guy disrespects what Penguin holds dear and makes him feel small so he acts out and shoots him. Same with the kid, logically he’s a witness who saw what you did and knows too much but emotionally Penguin sees himself in the kid. He has a speech problem that make him different similar to Penguins limp and is trying to make money while doing some illegal stuff and Penguin emotionally chooses to mentor him just as he wishes someone had done to a younger him. Lastly it’s the ring. Logically he shouldn’t take the ring as that’s a clear sign that he killed the son it’s a special ring passed down that people would recognize but the son told him what the ring represents, power strength and validation which is what Penguin craves outwardly and he can’t resist taking it. The show is 100% gonna be about him having these 2 sides to him constantly in conflict and getting him into trouble until he learns from it and moves past it.
Charles (or a Charles-type) is such a necessary component to the pod. I disagree with him 90% of the time, but having someone who is hard to please and often has an opinion different from the rest is great content. It also makes the moments when everyone is aligned (i.e. Andor) that much better.
On 'Agatha All Along', as much as I value Charles' perspective and opinion, I think he's doing way too much here. He's acting like somebody stole his money to make the series. Dude, relax. Maybe you (and other comic book nerds) didn't ask for this show, and you believe there are other stories out there that deserve the spotlight (would've been great if you actually talked about that instead of repeating the same ol' take), but the show is already here. It's on Disney +, it will find its audience among Wanda Vision/Marvel fans (who are not a monolith). There's a reason that Agatha song was a hit, ppl connected with that character one way or another. I can understand not having much faith in Marvel shows these days, their track record isn't exactly pristine, but can we please judge 'Agatha All Along' on its own merits and not get carried away with 'The State of the MCU' discourse? Charles' cynicism is needed in this world, but sometimes I just think he needs a long hug and a back rub before y'all start recording the podcast.

Charles forgetting what his job for an hour is hilarious. Let that brother take a vacation. He’s telling too much truth,”Who wakes up wanting to make an Agatha or Penguin tv show?” 😂😂😂
I think that Charles asking who is Agatha for is missing the course correction going on at Marvel. People don't want to have to see EVERYTHING that comes out in order to understand the movies. The whole interconnectedness of Marvel, that used to be the thing that drew people to the theaters, is now too heavy for what has been an inferior product since Infinity Wars. So they're making the Marvel TV shows more niche, less focused on "YOU NEED TO SEE THIS" and more like people liked Kathryn Hahn, it's closed to Halloween, let's come up with a fun concept that people may enjoy casually. And I know it's just two episodes, but I think it's working.
Charles is talking about big picture critiques with his opinions sometimes land more on wanting art and substance instead of a money grab. Which is understandable. People saying for him to get off the pod are lames.
