I love how the 2 fingers look like TV antennas. They receive signals from above as though it's radio waves and it's befitting then that Ranni hid her 2 fingers underground until she had the means to kill them.
@@vazazell5967 I sort of assume the opposite with miyazaki's games, everything is very intentional. very. the team that must research the real world myth and history to interpret must be absolutely incredible. When you see someone like Quelag breaking down the layers and layers of theory, accidental becomes very improbable
@@daYps3 mate if you have literally just two fingers to work with there's only one pose you can think of that stands for receiving orders from space. This isn't some rocket science, this is the single most obvious zero depth solution. Idk what sort of condition you need to have not to come up with this idea
The erudition spell change implies the mask allows the user to hear higher frequencies than it could before (probably facilitated via the glintstone crown). What sound? Probably of the primordial current. Definitely goes well with the theme of cosmos and space.
my first thought on this discovery, is does it have implications in game anywhere? does anything happen casting erudition wearing lusat's or azur's head gear?
Wondering if it would change its tone when wearing that one helmet that says youre protected from the wills of other beings. Could definitely give more insight over glinstone and sorcery being bound to an actual being or if its genuinely the fabric of the universe
If you didnt see Zio's follow up video guys, After more testing, the Frequencies you hear are random, and there are 4 different tones. It was fun to dream though 🥰
Godfrey is not protecting the Erdtree. He is in his own Tarnished path to become Elden Lord, just like us. He is also a Tarnished revived by the Grace racing to become Elden Lord. His name is also mentioned in the intro along all the Tarnished that were revived for this task. You can even see in the cutscene he is following the guidance of grace, but in his case the guidance of grace is pointing towards us, as if we are the boss, and he is the payer.
Yeah I honestly thought this was a pretty big oversight on Zio's part, since it's one of those aspects of ER lore which actually have -a lot- of evidence for rather than vague implications.
Save the Erdtree from the Great Will. Isn't it obvious? Before the Great Will there was order in the world, the Great Will is only a usurper of the true order of the Lands Between.
To me the Godfrey thing still adds up... He is the most honest dude in the game, both as a character and as a fight. The moment you defeat him, you have proven your strength to him, warranting a crown, he still says that in the game... When he tells you to get the ring in the mined voice lines, its just that, him respecting your strength.
I believe Godfrey appear right before us, to the corpse of his son. He is tarnished as well, and is answering the call of grace. He isn’t looking for you to prove yourself, he is just a hardcore believer in his own creed. To him, you losing and him continuing the quest would also have been acceptable.
@@gtumbloapfot3644 True but one thing to note is that in the cutscene the grace that came from his son points toward us, his next challenge just like it points us towards our next path.
@@domc9801 Yes, as does Godrick’s grace. We have all been tasked with mending the elden ring, and killing each other in order to do so. Like I said, we both need to fight each other, to win, he just isn’t mad about losing. Unlike the other story bosses we encounter.
That's an excellent detail to notice about Erudition, the Glintstone Crowns, and Astel's theme. The entire practice of Glintstone sorcery might be inadvertently making the sorcerers become pawns of interstellar beings and, based on the Graven Masses being "star seeds", eventual raw materials to make the bodies of Astels.
Actually Astels are very likely the TRUE adult form of a Fallingstar Beast since the 'full grown' Fallingstar Beast has an Astel skull peeking out from the fur stuff on it's head AND the same pincers as an Astel the idea is that a Fallingstar Beast lands and grows until it starts developing the skull at which point it burrows underground until it finds a large open space and becomes a Malformed Star, and then it hangs from the cavern ceiling until it develops into a full Astel
@@Pattabazza I am aware that an Astel head, including the false eye sockets and nose, is growing beneath the "Full-Grown" Fallingstar Beast's fur. However, the Fallingstar Beasts in the first place might be made out of Graven Masses, with the multi-glintstone visual of the "seeds" only reappearing after the metamorphosis is complete. Alternatively, the Graven Masses as "star seeds" could be a way to create a sort of Astel homunculus that would also be skipping the Fallingstar Beast phases entirely.
The sigil is most likely that of the Stormhawk. Once the residents of Stormveil Castle before it was demolished by Godfrey and then taken over by Godrick who replaced the sigil with that of the lion because he simps hard for Godfrey. The ballista on the bridge of sacrifice is clearly part of the Stormveil armory thanks to the Stormhawk sigil. The Stormhawks most likely were part of the siege of Leyndell during the Shattering War and their banners are still present outside of the city's inner walls in their abandoned camp.
The siege in lyndell was during the shattering, meaning much later than Godfrey claimed storm veil castle. Wich means his lineage already uses storm veil castle, godefroy just used the same banners because unlike godrick who heavily worshiped Godfrey, godefroy probably didn't and used the old sigil and the old army he found there. The storm hawk were not a faction anymore.
@@dylanschmeichel2008 All we know is that Godefroy is part of the first siege and was captured by Kristoff (as written on his Spirit Ashes). Godrick fled back to Stormveil and has most likely changed the banners to that of the lion to formally announce his dominion over the region.
Those whistling notes are actually a proper musical space from each other such that it's not just a random note change. It sounds to me like the crown was a 5th up from the base crown less note. A Root note and its fifth up ("Do" and "Sol" together) are commonly known as a power chord in rock music. This discovery makes me wonder if the other crowns make different tones that are in scale. Then, assuming they do, I would wonder what scale they make up as a whole and see what we can glean from that. Could be something as simple as, the crowns make tones which when put together comprise the scale of other music present in the game (maybe Raya Lucarias music, Caria Manors, or Liurnia as a whole), or maybe it would allude to something more significant 🧐
@@luke_of_astora ya I was just kinda guessing in my head, while having my morning smoke and not in front of an instrument 😂 so I had a feeling I might be wrong, but thanks for the correction 😎
Yeah... Of all the tiny subtle details that could be intentional, I have trouble believing a single tone interval was supposed to evoke specific pieces of music or musical concepts. Especially a major second. It's just... The first and second notes of a scale. I can't think of a less interesting interval.
The placidusax theory is interesting considering the implication of their possibly being more heads previously. There are depictions of him having four heads in the Old Lord's Talisman. Though it could also be argued that he had even more heads due to the stumps apparent on his body, you can spot three. Though they are tiny and look almost randomly placed, similar to the growths seen on Omen. Does placidusax losing his heads symbolise his conformity to the Golden Order in a desperate attempt to have his god return? Similar to how Morgott removes his horns because of how they are shunned by the Golden Order?
I was just about to mention the head stumps aswell, I noticed them on my last playthrough when I fought him and immediately though of the similarities. It can even connect to how the two fingers are separated from the three fingers, and what possible implications that could have on the three severed heads. I think it would be really interesting if those three heads made some kinda appearance in a dlc, either as a weird boss fight possibly influenced by shibriri, or maybe they're turning to wood similar to how the two fingers do when they die. Just random fun thoughts to sit on while the dlc brews lol
The dragon head temple in Crumbling Farum Azula is one of the clear explanations on what became of Placudisax. The Godskins. They have incantations that have the ability to slay gods, and seemingly skin said gods and wear them as apparel. But what if you can't skin it? Then you do something else with the corpse of the dead God. Placidusax is already dead, passed away, or in the middle of the tornado, is time frozen still. He seemed to be a Hydra, a three headed drake beast, but whetr is the third head gone? It was cut off by the Godskins in their attempts to slay him, possibly froze time in a certain area indefinitely until he recieved a message from the Greater Will. The dragon head lays dormant in the Dragon Head Temple.
@@christopherlyndsay8611 Interesting, would love to see some confirmation of this in lore somewhere. It would make some sense if there weren't so many ancient dragons around, but if any dragon were to come from placidusax directly, it'd probably be Gransax. Just based on how massive they are and their comparisons to the mother of dragons in caelid.
@@liamobrien9186 ahhhh see there might appear to be loads of ancient dragons, but those are just descendants. In the entire game there are only 3 dragons with the ‘ax’ suffix - Gransax, Lannesax, and Fortisax. With only 3 heads missing, I think it’s surprisingly likely that they are the missing heads.
My personal theory is that Placidusax is waiting for the return of the Great One that Hyetta mentions after taking the frenzied flame, and that this great one was the combination of the Greater Will and frenzied flame before the greater will decided to split. Possibly dragons and beastmen were the subjects of the Great One, as there are several references to five fingers/digits signifying their old order that gave them intelligence (Cinquedea's description, the fingers on elder dragons vs ones in the lands between, Placidusax's heads before being chopped off), and the envoys of the greater will and frenzied flames are two and three fingers respectively.
6:51 you can also find the sigils on the ballistas in the Leyndell soldiers acampment at the start of Altus Palteau, the one where you find the troll greatsword and the greatshield talisman
The Erudition Sound reminds me of the NASA probes sent to neighboring planets to capture frequencies then converts them into sound which if you heard them before they produce those whistling eerie sounds.
The way I hear it, the dialogue would seem to indicate that Godfrey was on his way to "rescue" the Erdtree and Marika by becoming the next Elden Lord, but then you showed up with the same ambitions and so he figured only one of us would make it to lordship, so he challenged you to a fight to the death. The rest something something is history.
Regarding the crown on/off whistle. They sound like overtones that are a whole-step apart, which is the same as the two leading tones of “Saturn”. They’re not the same note but they are the same interval. Good catch Zio.
I imagine his line screaming “seek the elden ring” was a deleted line from his phase transition, and by removing serosh, he’s actually telling you what he wants, the golden order wants him protecting the tree, and free of it’s influence, free of serosh, he’s free to speak his mind
The glintstone lighting up and the sound effect during the erudition gesture is fascinating. I feel like this has undiscovered implications to the game and the lore for sure. It makes me wonder if there is somewhere we can use the gesture in combination with some items somewhere in the world to discover something else...
Maybe in Sellia, or Raya Lucaria. I'm thinking the more amplified sound while wearing the glintstone crown is because the glintstone itself is acting as an amplifier to the primeval current.
There is a rather interesting theory of there being even more demigods, who, based on some circumstances, remain soulless and inside the Walking Mausoleums. Out of all the lore pieces, this was something that got my interest the most during my playthrough. There are at least four direct in-game references to soulless demigods: -Eclipse Crest Heater Shield (note the plural in the description) -Mausoleum Surcoat (again, note the plural in the description) -Lhutel the Headless description text -A ghost, who you can interact with in the Weeping Peninsula, staring at the Wandering Mausoleum. If there is one person, who carries the title "Soulless demigod", that would be Godwyn the Golden. However, now the game mentions more than one as it refers to demigods. It is unlikely this is just some translation error since FS has put at least four separate hints of this in the game, each with different dialogues. However, it could be of use to have someone who could read japanese to verify that the english and japanese descriptions/dialogues are telling the same story. For further analysis, theory and speculation, see the entirety of the following posts: www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/tzg8dk/theory_on_the_walking_mausoleums_and_soulless/ www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/ukqpm0/the_mausoleums_cannot_contain_soulless_demigods/ This would be a good theory to include. A rather interesting theory, is it not? And one with potentially major implications, if true.
It's not a theory if the official elden ring page says so... It's literally stated on the page, and also, it's clearly said that Godwyn was the first that night, not the only.
On Godfrey, it could be that he wanted to do those things, saving the erdtree and Marika, but when he was defeated his proclamation of strength warranting a crown showed him that we are the ones strong enough to take the elden ring and save the tree and Marika .
@@jessebrown1996 Quite true, but if I lost a fight with that much in the balance and the one now making decisions may do those things anyway, I would of done the same. Closed mouths never get fed after all
I'm not sure if this would be considered as a discovery or not, but in Beast Clergyman's/Maliketh's theme there is a constant attention to bells ringing. When we fight him we bring back death itself to the Lands Between after he's defeated. Bells back then were often used as signs to calling attention however, also, were often used as grave warnings for oncoming disasters. In his theme you can often hear bells in the distance and considering what we are in Crumbling Farum Azula for, it helps set the tension of the overall fight itself. In his theme, although a little hard to hear through speakers, setting the volume decently high whether in game or on any device, at 3:48 (phase 2) the final bell tolls. Signaling that the greatest disaster has essentially crashed landed. The rest of his theme is a desperate tragedy greatly enhancing that this is Maliketh's final stand and opportunity to protect Destined Death (and of course Marika) itself and when we kill him, we see the aftermath of the grave warning the bells tolled in his theme prior. Anyways, I don't know if this holds extra merit but I thought it was a nice little detail that is often looked over. Edit: filled in some missing words. Was half asleep when I wrote this a bit ago.
This is one of those games that will have new discoveries years and years down the road. Also, those soldiers being in Cealid are probably there because they fell from Farum Azula.
Slight inaccuracy: the Sun Realm shield can drop from skeletons in Limgrave as well (confirmed drop locations: under the bridge in Agheel Lake, and in the graves outside Summonwater Village.) This definitely argues for the sun realm being tied to an empire that stretched the lands between - and likely not that of the Nox, given the Nox were of the night (though perhaps there is some other connection: like how Caria is tied to the Erdtree).
You'll be able to hear the woman's voice thing a lot easier if you use the Mohg spear yourself and use its ash of war. Each time you thrust the spear into the air you can hear the sound of the Formless Mother's cry or whatever you want to call it
1:55 just a quick little tip when editing video and sound effect : In this situation with continious sound effects and cuts, add a very small fade out at the end of the sound, just before the cut. It's an easy way to avoid the "plic" between each cut. Hope this tip will be usefull.
Elden ring's biggest theme is "only the victor's write history". Countless civilizations forgotten, ways of life buried and destroyed, the concept of death forgotten and locked away, the first Elden Lord a Dragon purposely erased by the Greater Will. All so the only thing the people of the Lands In-between know is the "grace" of the Erdtree and the Greater Will's control via it's vassal; Queen Marika. In Farum Azula there is a repeated carving in stone; a woman holding a baby and a man separate from them, but sometimes all together. This has intent. This is Queen Marika holding her first born child and her first husband/ consort/ love. The baby in her arms is/ becomes the Gloam-Eyed Queen when Marika is turned into a god ( just like Radagon's children they became demigods retroactively). Queen Marika's half-brother is Maliketh, his family and himself were beastmen. Who ruled over Farum Azula. And just like Game of Thrones style; one of Marika's parents married one of the beastmen leaders to bring union and peace to both their peoples. It was an act out of necessity. And as you play through Elden Ring you find constant reminders of ways of life that existed before the Erdtree and the Greater Will. "Only the victor's write history". I also think Ranni is a puppet, and her design of being an actual puppet is SUPER intended. Because when she is turned into the little doll, leading up to the Baleful Shadow fight. She has this weird, very out of character dialogue “The name of Ranni the Witch has already been sullied by thee.” She says it very out of character, as if it's someone else entirely. I believe when she did the death ritual with herself and Godwynn this allowed the Gloam-Eyed Queen's soul into the Ranni puppet body as well as Ranni's soul. And that line of dialogue is the Gloam-Eyed Queen's temper lashing out. How would Ranni (a cold witch) know anything about death, let alone rituals. And to acquire the aid of Numen women assassins is odd. She was instructed via the Gloam-Eyed Queen, manipulated by her first-born older sister. Ranni makes a comment about how she feels odd in this little puppet form and it's making her speak too much, and to "forget about it". Which is a huge theme of Elden Ring. To forget the past, and act like nothing was there before. Ghost Flame (death) is Cold and Fire. Ranni is cold, Melina is Fire. Two halves of the same coin. Which is another major theme of Elden Ring.
El Kid no, El Cid, with C that sounds like Z, but yeah it looks like Tizona. Also yesterday i noticed the Astel differences when i fought both, pretty funny cause i was thinking about a run without music just to hear the effects, so hey perfect timing my guy! Good video!
I think theres also an interesting scratching sound, right before Mohg says "Unus", that sounds like the beginning of the "Cleric Beast" theme from the soundtrack of Bloodborne.
The sheer amount of detail that From includes in their games is astounding. There's nothing random it seems; everything has a back story and a purpose for being in the game. Most folks miss these subtle details, so thank you for pointing them out.
I think Erudition makes a hum because everyone naturally has some crystal in them? The more intelligence and connection to the stars, the more it grows?
I am fairly certain that the reason that erudition is shown through sound, is because sound has special cosmic properties in Elden Ring. The Nox studied the knowledge of sound to fuel their experiments, one of them leading to be decimated by Astel, as it responded to the sound they produced and paid them a visit. So, sound is very closely related to the cosmos in the game and you are attuning yourself to the cosmos like a radio beacon when you do the gesture.
I bet you didn't know that the drake lightning blessing incantation deflect any blow you receive the same way as a great shied by default, and wars perfectly when blocking with any weapon, even with a dagger.
The healing sound, imo, is DEFINITELY a voice. Maybe a synth-voice patch the sound developers chose..anyway, great video! I'm blown away at how much depth this game has not only in itself but how it takes notes from historical figures and objects from our past. 👏
Probably won’t cone out til the summer , maybe fall….U think there would be some new dlc armor sets or weapon to search for etc….something…..losing steam
Ok, that whistle with erudition was so subtle that I didn't even notice it. At best, I would've thought it was mere background noise from the outside and thinking nothing of it.
I used almost exclusively the Great Stars on my first playthrough and even used Holy Land for a while, never noticed the extra healing, but I am willing to bet it helped me survive a few encounters.
The Erudition reaction with the various Glintstone Crowns always gave me TES Dwemer vibes for some reason, seeing this made me realize it was tonal magic/manipulation lol
another interesting thing you can do regarding the heal over time build is putting the blasphemous blade in your offhand and then two handing your main weapon, the healing from kills carries over from the blasphemous blade
I found the Sun Shield in Limgrave. Those skeletons you mentioned are right around the place you get invaded by the first Bloody Finger. It was my first shield drop.
The skeletons that can drop the Sun Realm Shield can also be found in Limgrave: two of them are in the graveyard west of Summonwater Village. Those ones in particular have even dropped the shield for me.
I made a discovery just now that I haven't heard anyone mention, the albinauric waiting outside the teleporter to Moghs palace can cast discus of light, this is the only time I've seen an albinauric used that and it surprised me as I have over 600 hours in ER. Could this have significance to Miquella as he was the one to create the incantation? Idk but you should look into it man!
That whistle sounds like glintstone sorceries and probably for good reason. My theory is the gesture excites glintstone and causes that frequency hum. It's just audible so we can sense it as players, because crystals in the real world also resonate at specific frequencies when excited through vibration or electricity, but we can't detect it with our ears.
5:07 This shield looks as though it is depicting Castle Lothric or the area before you confront the herald of flame. The architecture is very similar and on top of that it is canonically speaking we’re the sun set/died in Dark Souls 3.
With each crown representing a different school/study of magic it's possible that each sound we hear does the same. Sort of like we're tuning into the same frequency they were
Godfrey is such a cool guy, even just based on the boss fight/cutscenes, he's the only boss that really shows respect to the Tarnished player. And I like to think that the reason he fights the player is two fold, he wants to take the throne again obviously but as he says a crown is warranted by strength so the fight is also a test to see which of you deserves the crown. At least that's my thoughts on it Ya know the hawk banners could symbolize the Storm Hawk king, so maybe godefroy was also associated with stormveil since he had those banners in his assault
I'll take credit for posting that note on Tizona for you on your discord thank you very much! lol. Cool fact though, glad it made into the vid! I'm half Spanish so I love learning more about the legends there.
I'm sure it's not the same sound, as lore wise it would make no sense for these to be connected... But every time I heard that Erudition whistle, it reminded me of hearing Torrent's whistle (or him crying out) in the distance, before slowly fading out, when Melina reaches down and grabs it during the Frenzied Flame ending. Bums me out lol.
The erudition is heightened by having crystals on your head, hence the higher sound. If you read of the crystallians it says they seek the wisdom of Crystal and that that is the highest of knowledge. Look at the staff.
Godfrey’s is nice and all but Mogh’s cut dialogue is the best we’ve ever got. It’s a shame that in the final product he just counts down from three instead of six.
In japanese, the description of Placidusax's remembrance says that he's waiting for his god to return. The "god" is the same kanji as Marika's. So he's not waiting for an outer god but for his spouse!
I noticed the similarities between St. Trina’s sword and the Tizona, I have a replica of that sword at home, so it was obvious. The figure of El Cid Campeador is surrounded by legends, we only know he existed (his tomb is in the cathedral of Burgos), he was born between 1040 and 1050, probably in a town called Vivar del Cid, but most information about him comes from a poetic novel from the year 1200. The legend says he had another sword, Colada, more ornate and probably never used for combat.
Godfrey’s voice lines sound like they were for sound test purposes but who knows. And the lack of mentioning the Sun in the lore is SO suspect to me. It exists, it’s just faded and dwarfed by the Erdtree. So a random mention for the Seat of the Sun definitely raises some eyebrows.
It definately is suspect but it’s intentional because Fromsoft is very good at making you forget about it, even though the sun is meant to be strongest representation of Gold in game heavily themed by Alchemy. My best guess is it’s referring to Farum Azula, with the heir being Godwyn. There are implications that the Golden Order did not start with Godfrey. It began in the Crucible, the age before the Edrtree. The fact that Maliketh is a high rank, BeastClergymen, and the shadowbound of Marika suggests she had a religious affiliation with Farum. Gravel Stone Seal- “ Sacred seal made from Gravel Stone thought to be an ancient dragon scale. Enhances Dragon Cult incantations of the Royal Capital. The worship of the ancient dragons does not conflict with belief in the Erdtree. After all, this seal, and lightning itself, are both imbued with gold.” Godwyn also founded the ancient dragon cult which, judging from the prayer book being found in Farum Azula, began there. It reads: Ancient Dragon book Prayerbook - “Prayerbook of the capital's ancient dragon cult. A lost tome that never reached the Lands Between. Contains red lightning incantations.” Farum Azula seems to work under its own hemisphere since the Sun is constantly present and stuck in a stasis most notably seen in the Great Bridge leading to Maliketh, also sharing similarities to the Eternal Cities with its Architecture hanging below ground. Marika’s Hammer - “Stone hammer made in the lands of the Numen, outside the Lands Between. The tool with which Queen Marika shattered the Elden Ring and Radagon attempted to repair it. The hammer partially broke upon shattering the Ring, becoming splintered with rune fragments.” The “denizens of another world” text found on the Numen Rune could very much refer to Farum Azula, with Marika being depicted with what looks like a dragon/serpent tail behind her in her statues. It even has traces of gold mimicking similar to the Ancient Dragons. The Mimics Veil is even called “Marika’s Mischief”. All this paints the Numens(Ancient Dragons) as the the shapeshifting counterparts to the Silver Tears, except Gold. Lannseax was a able to do this, I’ve heard Fortissax in the form of Fia, and Godwyn himself. It’s the only explanation as why we see two different versions of him(in game and story trailer). In the Deeproot Depths, the Finger Reader Crone refers to him as “Lord Godwyn - a Scion of the Golden bough” The word bough translates to a main part of a tree or in this case “true lineage”. In the Japanese text, the same npc calls Godwyn the “Prince of Gold”, The heir to the Seat of the Sun aka Farum Azula(evidence being Destined Death being sealed there, all the Beastmen using the Sun Realm Shield(Edit: Wrong, just the skeletal ones) and of course the Sun being constantly present). Godrick, in his boss fight dialogue he claims: “Mighty Dragon, thou'rt a trueborn heir. Lend me thy strength, o kindred. Deliver me unto greater heights.” Anything related to the dragons is and was considered divine at one point until everything crucible related had been shunned from history. Godwyn has a heavy association with dragons and it’s said he wielded “Golden” Lightning which can even be seen in the Placidusax fight. Death Lightning Description- Incantation that channels the power of the ancient dragon Fortissax, now corrupted by Death.Strikes surroundings with a storm of Death lightning.Inflicts Death blight upon foes.Charging extends duration of the storm. It said that this golden lightning was wielded by Godwyn, whobefriended Fortissax.“ All of this paints a theme of Gold vs Silver, One Eternal City(Seat of the Sun) vs another(Seat of the Moon). The only other one that fits that bill is Ranni and it’s for this reason after you put the two halfwheels together and brandish the Elden Ring that the Eclipse finally happens(Duskborn ending).
When you brought up Astel regarding the whistling i immediately thought of the sound Astel makes when teleporting. Not sure if they're the same notes but if they are that might reinforce the connection.
I had learned recently that the tone produced by erudition can have 6 different notes. They are also chosen at random. That being said, all 6 notes being inside of the same scale as Astel's boss music is entirely possible and would be a pretty cool connection.
The dragons seem to have once worshipped the 5 fingers or something akin to it. Placidusax used to have 5 heads, everything farum azula related makes reference to how five fingers represents the evolution of beasts unto a higher form of intelligence. The Cinqueda, in every way confirms this alongside beast incantations. And I do believe that the dragons especially worshipped or acknowledged the importance of the 5 fingers in great respect. Just look at the cutscene for Placi. Why specifically did it focus onto his noticeable 5 digit hand? From this we can assume something. The five fingers represented the original order of the world when something split them asunder. Perhaps the two fingers that represent order, and the three fingers that represent chaos. Together they would bring true balance, or represent it as such.
@@nathanwilens5611 absolutely. The Cinquedea is named in reference to a real life short sword of the same name that is named that way due to the shape of the blade to the guard. Cinquedea, translated to English literally means "Five Fingers." The design of said blade is in the exact same style as Faraam Azula's architecture as well as sports a five finger design at the base of the blade. The item description gives connection of Faraam Azula to the beast incantations directly. "Short sword given to high ranking clergymen of Farum Azula. Raises potency of bestial incantations. The design celebrates a beast's five fingers, symbolic of the intelligence once granted upon their kind." Farum Azula is mostly populated by beastmen, adhering to the designs of beastmen corpses/statues on pillars and Beastmen skeletons/carvings of said skeletons in the various walls and flooring of the area. I'm more inclined to believe that the beastmen do in fact bury their dead in these mounds due to the way we enter Placi's arena. We know the beastmen have some kind of connection with ancient dragons beyond just having the same home. It's even more likely that in the beginning of the Ancient Dragon's rise with their version of the Elden Ring (seen in Maliketh's boss room above a very interesting statue of a woman with three wolves), that both took part in building Farum Azula and were an active society of beastmen and dragons, as the beastmen are seen utilizing red lightning, which explicitly is stated by ancient dragon incantations in game that is a sign of deep love from the dragons. There may even be something interesting to take away from the dragoncrest shield talisman that says the dragons use their own stony bodies to protect their lord. It's possible, but just speculation that they don't just guard the lord literally, but MIGHT be what Faruum Azula's walls are made of, as dragons are either entirely made of stone or turn into complete stone when dead as seen at dragon communion sights, but that's just a guess on my part. In conclusion, the beastmen of Farum Azula rose to intelligence and sapience due to the intelligence given to them by something, perhaps an outer god or the "Marika" of said outer god, who Placi most likely waits for due to being an elden lord himself. This being/person may have given intelligence to the beastmen via the will of their god for whatever reason they had in doing so, which is what I believe is being depicted in Maliketh's boss room beneath their old depiction of the elden ring. Another heavy connection are the shadows of empyreans. Beastmen given to them as guards and wardens. The Two-fingers are directly mentioned in their complete control of them, whether they be the death-wielding baleful shadow assassins or the Empyrean shadows. Perhaps in conquering the lands between, at the end of the dragon's age, maybe the greater will split the five fingers and made use of the two that could completely control these special beastmen. Sorry for the super long elaboration and speculation.
I absolutely love Dark Souls and a big part of what keeps me hooked on Elden Ring is that very shield that drops from the skeletons. I like to think Dark Souls and Elden Ring are connected in some way.
I think I hear the faint feminine sound when Mohg uses the Nihil. It’s less like a voice, but a low multi-note vocal chord/tone making like an “ahhhh” sound that echoes.
Godfrey is a Tarnished. He too would have received the call to seek the Elden Ring. Less so telling us, he may just be yelling it in contempt, because he may know Marika's relationship to the Erdtree Beast
The interval between the whistles and in astel's theme is a major second, it’s an incredibly common interval and I would argue that it doesn’t necessarily represent the cosmos. If you listen to modern pop music a very common motif in choruses is for the singer to hold a major second above the root of the scale before resolving to the root. It's also in the menu theme of Elden Ring.
I think, regarding godfreys cut dialogue, that it could be a case of dual identity. Godfrey has two sides, First Elden Lord, and Hoarah Loux. I think in his duty as elden lord, he protects the erdtree and elden ring, but once he sheds his lordly persona to really fight you as hoarah loux, he then shows what he really wants
If I had to guess about Godfrey's cut lines... I'd think that him roaring and sounding like he's losing himself could be his overwhelming lust for battle and bloodshed making it... Difficult for him to have a conversation. It could've been him giving up on becoming Elden Lord, and, seeing as you are able to match him even in his bloodlusted state, deciding to bequeath his journey, his duty, to you. After all, during his Pre-Fight Boss Cutscene, whilst he is holding Morgott and Serosh is roaring, you can see the Light of Grace pulling over his shoulder... Towards us. For both of us, the opposite is the Boss Fight. So, those lines might've been a way to... Spare him? Maybe? Or it just was a cutscene thing. Dunno.
the flag isn't symbolizing godefroy but the storm king which is the ash you can give to nepheli. There is also a symbol for storm king-based magic casted with I think certain ashes of war
It's so weird how there are so many little details like these that normal players probably never would have found but at the same time they used the exact same model and voice with Godefroy and Godrick..
The information on the Sun Realm Knights isn't fully accurate. You can find them almost everywhere, including Limgrave, Mountain Tops of the Giants, etc. All of them drop that shield, including the skeletal Beastmen in Farum Azula that carry it as well. Makes me think the Sun Realm was a vast realm that once encompassed all of the Lands Between, possibly the Empire that built the Divine Towers, the great roads, etc. Hard to know. That particular mystery keeps me up at night.
about placidusax's description: an italian streamer has recently found out that the kanji used for god in the original description is the same kanji used when referring to marika, that probably means that placidusax is waiting for his "spouse" since he's the lord
Considering the Seat/City of the Sun: I think it is an old name for Leyndell, referring to a time were the erdtree was in its full glory, shining much brighter (like the sun) than today. The skeletal soldier that spawns just outside of leyndell could be a former soldier of leyndell, long deceased, still wearing the shield that depicts leyndell in its full prime. Also, the theme of the eclipse, that seemed to be an important event Miquella was hoping for, could reference the erdtree, literally referenced as "the sun" in olden days. The eclipse could have been an event that would shut down/block the power of the erdtree, or something like that. This would make sense since Miquella was somewhat in opposition to the golden order.
@@ManEaterBrainBug it's been a while since I've looked into it but smoughtown has addressed it before, I can't remember off the top of my head all of the reasons
One more cool (probably non-intentional) music detail I noticed: The first two notes of Limgrave are the same two first pitches of Astel's theme in reverse order. I like to believe that with Limgrave, the notes ascend because that's the only room to go, up. However, Astel descends because he descended into the lands between from the sky.
Godfrey telling you to find the Elden ring whilst fighting you makes sense to me because previously saying a crown is “built on strength” he recognises your strength and knows you’ll be a powerful lord and if you beat him must mean you’re worthy.
It is heavily implied through Melina's lore dialogue that Marika may have had a plan in mind to break free from the influence of the Greater Will, and that her sending Godfrey away under the guise of exile from the Lands Between. Perhaps something occurred in some faraway lands that led to him and the tarnished (who were similarly spurned by the grace of gold) to become capable of uniting the shards of the elden ring. Either way, it would seem that he's back to fulfil the final part of Marika's plan, much like how we have different ways to restore the elden ring after defeating the elden beast. It seems to me that his fight with us before entering the Erdtree is so that he can complete the plan and help the lands between break free of the Greater Will's influence, but upon being defeated by us, believes that we can achieve the same thing, in our own way (e.g. Age of Stars ending, etc). Hence, some of his voicelines are more encouraging and positive.
I think that whistle is the actual sound that Saturn makes all the planets have a super weird sound from space and if I remember right that's how Saturn sound ill have to check the video on RUclips to hear them again
I love how the 2 fingers look like TV antennas. They receive signals from above as though it's radio waves and it's befitting then that Ranni hid her 2 fingers underground until she had the means to kill them.
🤯💯🎯
2 fingers just looks like 2 fingers, it's a very accidental parallel
@@vazazell5967 I'm not saying it's necessarily intentional, just that it's funny how they look that way. Their poses also reinforce the similarity.
Yess, I was thinking the same. Also, try the other crowns!
Of course the frequency on which mushrooms comunicate
Wondering if it would change its tone when wearing that one helmet that says youre protected from the wills of other beings. Could definitely give more insight over glinstone and sorcery being bound to an actual being or if its genuinely the fabric of the universe
If you didnt see Zio's follow up video guys, After more testing, the Frequencies you hear are random, and there are 4 different tones. It was fun to dream though 🥰
I thought Godfrey wasn't protecting the Erdtree, but he was testing you to see if you were strong enough to become the Elden Lord.
@@thevikingbear2343 that is really cool.
@@thevikingbear2343 he was an elden lord at one point ….
To me the Godfrey thing still adds up...
He is the most honest dude in the game, both as a character and as a fight.
The moment you defeat him, you have proven your strength to him, warranting a crown, he still says that in the game...
When he tells you to get the ring in the mined voice lines, its just that, him respecting your strength.
yh he was the real chad
Actually Astels are very likely the TRUE adult form of a Fallingstar Beast
since the 'full grown' Fallingstar Beast has an Astel skull peeking out from the fur stuff on it's head AND the same pincers as an Astel
the idea is that a Fallingstar Beast lands and grows until it starts developing the skull at which point it burrows underground until it finds a large open space and becomes a Malformed Star, and then it hangs from the cavern ceiling until it develops into a full Astel
@@nightscout9979 that WOULD explain Stars of Darkness in the Mountaintops of the Giants…
@@Frank-kq4te oh yeah. The Shattering war happened after Godfrey left . So the Stormhawk sigil was used by Godefroy.
@@Slayton1978 Or just Godrick, we cant seriously be considering Godefroy to be canon.
I should’ve tested other crowns. Didn’t even think to do that
This actually isn't correct; the interval is a major second, not a perfect fifth. You could be right about the crowns though!
@@luke_of_astora ya I was just kinda guessing in my head, while having my morning smoke and not in front of an instrument 😂 so I had a feeling I might be wrong, but thanks for the correction 😎
@@kaiyote3357 no problem; saw the post on my break and vocalist brain went brrt
Yeah... Of all the tiny subtle details that could be intentional, I have trouble believing a single tone interval was supposed to evoke specific pieces of music or musical concepts. Especially a major second. It's just... The first and second notes of a scale. I can't think of a less interesting interval.
When Godfrey screams Elden ring reminded me of Darth maul screaming kenobi.
When Godfrey said "It's Elden Ring time!"
I felt that.
I have a theory that the missing heads are the ancient dragons, like Lanesax and Fortisax etc
You can see the same sigil when using the storm blade AOW and on a shield, the inverted hawk shield and the wooden hawk shield.
There are at least four direct in-game references to soulless demigods:
-Eclipse Crest Heater Shield (note the plural in the description)
-Mausoleum Surcoat (again, note the plural in the description)
-Lhutel the Headless description text
-A ghost, who you can interact with in the Weeping Peninsula, staring at the Wandering Mausoleum.
For further analysis, theory and speculation, see the entirety of the following posts:
www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/tzg8dk/theory_on_the_walking_mausoleums_and_soulless/
www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/ukqpm0/the_mausoleums_cannot_contain_soulless_demigods/
This would be a good theory to include. A rather interesting theory, is it not? And one with potentially major implications, if true.
It's not a theory if the official elden ring page says so... It's literally stated on the page, and also, it's clearly said that Godwyn was the first that night, not the only.
I always figured that Placidusax was trying to commune with his god the same way the Two-Fingers commune with the Greater Will.
On Godfrey, it could be that he wanted to do those things, saving the erdtree and Marika, but when he was defeated his proclamation of strength warranting a crown showed him that we are the ones strong enough to take the elden ring and save the tree and Marika .
Tbf I don't think we did a good job saving Marika, considering we pretty much kill her.
@@jessebrown1996 Quite true, but if I lost a fight with that much in the balance and the one now making decisions may do those things anyway, I would of done the same. Closed mouths never get fed after all
I'm completely fine with Godfrey beating the game. I would just find other things to do
Well, I definitely think there would be many much worse choices in the lands between to take the elden ring than ol "God-free"
I got a shield to drop from the ones guarding the Godrick Soldier Ashes. Near the Stormhill Shack grace.
Also there’s skeletons with the Sun Realm Shield up in the mountains, on the ridge overlooking Castle Sol.
You'll be able to hear the woman's voice thing a lot easier if you use the Mohg spear yourself and use its ash of war. Each time you thrust the spear into the air you can hear the sound of the Formless Mother's cry or whatever you want to call it
:OO
1:55 just a quick little tip when editing video and sound effect : In this situation with continious sound effects and cuts, add a very small fade out at the end of the sound, just before the cut. It's an easy way to avoid the "plic" between each cut. Hope this tip will be usefull.
6:20 i think it sounds like a referance to anor londo for sure
The sigil looks like the Hawks'. You know, before they turned into albino gollum things.
Man, definitely there is an alternate Elden Ring somewhere where Godrick is a major guiding character.
I’m curious how you came the the conclusion that nox studied sound and lured astel im not denying it I just haven’t ever heard that before
i must‘ve missed that, where does it state they were studying sound?
Skeletons wielding the sun shields do spawn elsewhere.
I got one from the small graveyard next to Summonwater Village (Limgrave) where you can meet D
One thing I didn't know is when you are defending with a colossal weapon it will deflect light attacks from enemies like a greatshield would.
Just waiting for somebody to discover the DLC
Probably won’t cone out til the summer , maybe fall….U think there would be some new dlc armor sets or weapon to search for etc….something…..losing steam
Ok, that whistle with erudition was so subtle that I didn't even notice it. At best, I would've thought it was mere background noise from the outside and thinking nothing of it.
I used almost exclusively the Great Stars on my first playthrough and even used Holy Land for a while, never noticed the extra healing, but I am willing to bet it helped me survive a few encounters.
The Erudition reaction with the various Glintstone Crowns always gave me TES Dwemer vibes for some reason, seeing this made me realize it was tonal magic/manipulation lol
this sound is cosmic resonance amplified by glintstone which makes it louder
another interesting thing you can do regarding the heal over time build is putting the blasphemous blade in your offhand and then two handing your main weapon, the healing from kills carries over from the blasphemous blade
Yeah , me too! That's the only time i found the shield actually
The skeletons that spawn in the graveyard north of the Church of Plague in Caelid also drop the shield!
Sort of like we're tuning into the same frequency they were
I'm old enough and nerdy enough to appreciate the length of your videos being 13:37 🤘
Godfrey is such a cool guy, even just based on the boss fight/cutscenes, he's the only boss that really shows respect to the Tarnished player. And I like to think that the reason he fights the player is two fold, he wants to take the throne again obviously but as he says a crown is warranted by strength so the fight is also a test to see which of you deserves the crown. At least that's my thoughts on it
Ya know the hawk banners could symbolize the Storm Hawk king, so maybe godefroy was also associated with stormveil since he had those banners in his assault
The shield can be found near Castle Sol, in the tombs there are some of the same shielded skeletons, ive got one last week
Fire video bro
You can get the sheild drop from any skeleton that weilds it. I got mine in lymgrave, outside the first mariners ruins.
I'll take credit for posting that note on Tizona for you on your discord thank you very much! lol. Cool fact though, glad it made into the vid! I'm half Spanish so I love learning more about the legends there.
The issue with the Placidusax fingers idea is that we know from looking at their body they used to have more then 2 heads
I wonder if that whistle could be a connection to the spirit realm. After all, the spirits come and go by blue light similar to glintstone
Youre channel just popped up on my recommended, and im glad it did! Very well put together video!
The erudition is heightened by having crystals on your head, hence the higher sound. If you read of the crystallians it says they seek the wisdom of Crystal and that that is the highest of knowledge. Look at the staff.
11:47 i think it's a heart shape. heart of the storm and all
Godfrey’s is nice and all but Mogh’s cut dialogue is the best we’ve ever got. It’s a shame that in the final product he just counts down from three instead of six.
finally, some secrets I didn't actually know
In japanese, the description of Placidusax's remembrance says that he's waiting for his god to return. The "god" is the same kanji as Marika's. So he's not waiting for an outer god but for his spouse!
I always figured that tinnitus was caused by attempted psychic communication from a Lovecraftian entity.
ASMONGOLD LOVES YOUR VIDEOS STUD ❤️
The “seek the Elden ring” is when he’s in the badlands making his last stand and your tarnished escaped while hearing him yell that.
When you brought up Astel regarding the whistling i immediately thought of the sound Astel makes when teleporting. Not sure if they're the same notes but if they are that might reinforce the connection.
The Godfrey one sounds like lines that could’ve been used before and after you fight him, but were left out.
Can you elaborate on the farum azula five finger references?
@@nathanwilens5611 absolutely.
The Cinquedea is named in reference to a real life short sword of the same name that is named that way due to the shape of the blade to the guard. Cinquedea, translated to English literally means "Five Fingers." The design of said blade is in the exact same style as Faraam Azula's architecture as well as sports a five finger design at the base of the blade. The item description gives connection of Faraam Azula to the beast incantations directly.
"Short sword given to high ranking clergymen of Farum Azula.
Raises potency of bestial incantations.
The design celebrates a beast's five fingers, symbolic of the intelligence once granted upon their kind."
Farum Azula is mostly populated by beastmen, adhering to the designs of beastmen corpses/statues on pillars and Beastmen skeletons/carvings of said skeletons in the various walls and flooring of the area.
I've been using that sun shield ever since I found it believing it was a dark souls reference with that cool design
I think the sound when you do the gesture is your character exerting power from their mind based on intelligence
There is also a symbol for storm king-based magic casted with I think certain ashes of war
fromsoft has too many storm kings theres one in every franchise other than bloodborne
Wow I main butcher knives and never noticed that about the ash 🤣, very useful. Thank you for another awesome video!
about placidusax's description: an italian streamer has recently found out that the kanji used for god in the original description is the same kanji used when referring to marika, that probably means that placidusax is waiting for his "spouse" since he's the lord
Considering the Seat/City of the Sun:
I think it is an old name for Leyndell, referring to a time were the erdtree was in its full glory, shining much brighter (like the sun) than today.
Most of the evidence points to farum azula being the seat of the sun
@@zuurek6907 Ok. Why is that?
@@ManEaterBrainBug it's been a while since I've looked into it but smoughtown has addressed it before, I can't remember off the top of my head all of the reasons
Some random Berserker is probably screaming "GRIFFITH!!!!!"
One more cool (probably non-intentional) music detail I noticed:
The first two notes of Limgrave are the same two first pitches of Astel's theme in reverse order.
I like to believe that with Limgrave, the notes ascend because that's the only room to go, up.
However, Astel descends because he descended into the lands between from the sky.
I like Farum as the seat of the sun due to farum brigantium aligning with the tower of Hercules, a lighthouse.
Godfrey telling you to find the Elden ring whilst fighting you makes sense to me because previously saying a crown is “built on strength” he recognises your strength and knows you’ll be a powerful lord and if you beat him must mean you’re worthy.
Have over 300 hours in this game and I had no idea one of the gestures open some paths. Dope.
The sun shield one is probably the skeleton of a soldier from the Castle of Sol who died in battle in another place.
I think Erudition and the shifts are just amazing lore.
I hear the same thing as you. Almost sounds like an exhale but it's the healing sound I believe with the mohg healing.
The skeletons that spawn in the graveyard north of the Church of Plague in Caelid also drop the sun realm shield!
Placidusax actually had more heads but some were severed. You can still see the stumps. I think he originally had 5 so he'd look like a hand.
I remember finding the sun realm shield and did think it was a cool easter egg referncing lothric or possibly anor londo
Immediately thought of castle sol about the shield. interesting!
I think that whistle is the actual sound that Saturn makes
all the planets have a super weird sound from space and if I remember right that's how Saturn sound ill have to check the video on RUclips to hear them again
The whistling is the same sound that plays at the end of frenzy, flame ending
