In my radio DJ days back in 1968,I was backstage hanging around when Waylon walked up to me and asked if there was a coffee shop nearby. I replied there was and he said "Well, let's go get a cup". As we started out the door, a very distinctive voice rang out "Where'r you fellows going?" We told him and he said "Wait for me". So there I was in the coffee shop with Waylon and Tex Ritter, Waylon complaining that Chet Atkins wouldn't let him do what he wanted and Tex telling him to relax, he had records on the charts and getting the good tours and should enjoy it. It is one of my favorite memories!

This is one example of what a wonderful library of quality music is created by Utube, with the songs of the life of Glen Campbell as a stellar example. Now anyone that can sing and play, keep singing these contemporary classics for yourself and others live, and let the chill go down your spine! Don't just listen, if you can, sing and play with others more!

Sidelight--I was the Country Music Queen of the Days of ’47 Rodeo in 1972 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Third largest parade in USA after Macy’s and Rose. I LOVED that Appaloosa--but that was a long ride waving at every cowboy on the route in the hot Utah sun! The country station was owned by Buck Owens. I used to have a watch-given to me by Buck-that showed Buck; his guitar handle was the hour hand, and arm was minute hand. Hell of a businessman--pretty nice guy!

What happened ? The same thing that overcame any sort of talented genre of music come 2000........ the liberal movement and the push to bring down the public intellect .... from the top ... down to the gutter level of ignorants is what happened. This was the goal of course and to look back and see how things like rap and hip-hop suddenly became the go to for white kids is no surprise anymore. Who can recall the moment of when this hit home like a sledge hammer .......when sitting at a stop light another car rolls up blasting Rap insanity and you look over and it's some 17 year old punk of a white boy ? It's the moment you realize all is lost ...................

Marketing happened. The market for 'contemporary country' is women in their 30's.

Wish that John Hartford had been there. John wrote "Gentle On My Mind" and Glen turned it into an incredible crossover hit. Made a millionaire out of John Hartford. As the most covered C&W song ever written, John Hartford made ( Now his estate makes ) over $50,000.00 every year and sometimes much more. ) John Hartford, who had been battling Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma since the mid '80's, passed away on June 4, 2001, less than 2 years after this recording. RIP John!

It also established the Glaser Bros as a force to reckon with as they owned the publishing rights to the song. I believe it was the first song they obtained after forming the company.

Elvis Presley having recorded Gentle On My Mind sure didn't hurt things for Mr. Hartford.

Isn't it great though, that his music is timeless and will live forever. Thank God for modern recording. A mere 100 years ago it wouldn't have been possible. All the film and sound track would not have existed.

To open his Show at the HBO sponseted cable convention party in Dallas in '81, Glenn's full orcherta starting playining on a dark stage "Rinestone Cowboy' and when they built to the first crsendo, Glenn jumped thru a 10' x 10'' white screen at the front of the stage with his live guiter screaming "Like A Rinestone Cowboy"! The polite, assembled (400) of Cable TV Exes jumped from their seats and acted liked teen kids at a first USA Beatles concert,... the crowd went wild. Glenn was great and introed his new friend, Tanys Tucker (a real beaut then) and closed with a standing crowd.. One of the best live preformances I have ever seen, And as a music biz man, I hsve seen the best and thoudands of tines. This was Glenn at his top, like Elvis, IMHO.

"Bye-bye, Miss American Pie..." they day the music died.
Valens, Buddy Holly and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson, and pilot Roger Peterson, died on Feb. 3, 1959, when the plane crashed just north of Clear Lake.
The late Waylon Jennings said he lost a coin toss to Richardson for a seat on the plane.
God Speed Buddy, Richie, Bopper. Later Waylon and now Glen. ❤ ♫

Sorry Barry but I have to be nit-picky. Waylon volunteered his seat to the Bopper. It was Allsup who flipped the coin with Valens. Thanks for the comment and I hope you enjoyed the video.
