That dry, self-effacing wit is just what I hope my inner voice sounds like when I'm doing a job. For me, I'm always working just slightly above my ability, and that's me learning. But also, like you, need to know when to call the pro. Right tools, experience, technique...worth every penny.
Man that was awesome. Just make sure that insulation never gets wet. I would rather do a typical rolled attic insulation just in case something happens with water infiltration, but awesome job.
Thanks for checking out my video. There are interior french doors that are single pane. Those will fog up. IF its an exterior french door, double pane, it'll help keep heat/cooling inside and shouldn't fog up.
Fucking badass dude. Great job. Totally agree with you. Some shit you just need to sub out. Why didnt you do ICF though sonce you wanted a high performance build? Fellow NEPAer here btw!
Hi neighbor. The guy that did the concrete did not recommend ICF and it seemed that that would be a more expensive way to go . I also didn't want foam on the inside of the concrete. The concrete walls and floor that are all inside rigid foam, are at a steady 68 degrees like the inside of the building. It supposedly stores the heat and helps keep the building a consistent temperature for less heating and cooling costs. After a number of years now, using only electric to heat and cool with the minisplit - I spend less than $100/m on average on electric. Thats including all the other stuff that uses electric too. Would do it again. Does someone in the area even sell those ICF's or do you have to get them shipped? I didn't want to try and build the ICF lego block walls and order concrete for the first time. Thanks for checking out my video .
@@jpatt5054 Totally possible. I've had a hard time hiring people. Seems people only want to do what they know. IF I would of tried to hire someone to do anything high performance, I'd prob still be looking.
Super cool. I don't see anything wrong with the roof insulation at all. As long as it stays dry and sheds snow/water as needed, it should be fine. As for what the guy was doing wiggling the 2x4 while pouring the slab, he was just "screeding"/leveling the cement while it's wet. Working it back and forth along the length of the slab is a great way to get a level pour with simple tools. Keeping it covered and wet helps it to cure properly, as well. Any particular reason you built 24" on center? Were the LVL boards worth the expense? Cheers from FL.
Thanks for checking it out Karl. Yeah man I definitely learned a lot watching the concrete guys when they were here. 24 oc saved me money on lumber. Buying lumber in 2020, I paid more than anyone in history for a 2x6. The 3 ply headers I learned recently are unnecessary too. Guess it depends on your local code. FL you guys have to worry about lateral forces more than us here in PA. Engineering said I couldn't do 20 ft 2x12 dimensional lumber. I wanted 4x12s and it was almost worth it to drive to OHIO and back to pick them up. The LVLs were $86 a piece from Home Depot and with engineered lumber, they are all without any bowing or twisting. Framing an entire building in engineered lumber must be really nice but I wonder how much more it costs.
Thanks for checking out my videos Kyle. IN my other video I list the materials I used to fasten foam to the concrete foundation. "How to Fasten Rigid Foam Insulation Over Concrete for Thermal Break". I tried to link it below. Let me know if you are still looking for more info. ruclips.net/video/qDee3iuU2NU/видео.html
Awesome build!
Thanks!
Could you share what you spent on the full project - Thanks.
Thanks for checking out my videos. I've been meaning to add up all the costs but afraid to know what that number is.

Agree 100%. Its good for the brain to challenge yourself.
You artist types, always so humble, "Oh this? Just a little something I threw together. "You know a studio space..." Lol, this was great! Impressive!
Hahaha Thanks Prawn Star. Man I could eat like 1000 prawns right now.

Thanks man! Appreciate it!
When I put doors sideways they fogged up. I want to make a building just like that passive solar

@@POCONOPOWERCORD yea I'm sure he didn't recommend because he loses out on money lol. Great job in any event.

Very cool! What did you do for
Lights in your exposed ceiling?
Thanks! There is exposed conduit painted black under two of the LVL beams that connect to track lighting. I'm happy with how it came out.
Man that came out nice! Is that your pet bear?
Thanks man. It's crazy these things live in our woods.
