It wasn't the size of the audience, but the small amount of material he had to work with and the constant repetition of his memorable lines. You can only milk the nostalgia-cow for so long before it gets tedious. Keep in mind: He'd star in Troll 2: Part 2 if he is given the gig.
You are wrong. It is possible (and extremely common) to humanely collect fur. Unless there are actually limbs or leather visible, it's pretty safe to assume that most fur bought in the present was sheared, not skinned.
