I was fortunate enough to see Mates of State live in Detroit back in the mid 2000's (possibly at the Magic Stick) when they were fairly new. I remember Kori was pregnant and they had to ask everyone in the venue not to smoke lol. Crazy to think their child has got to be almost 20 years old now. Thanks for the music and memories.
Since I couldn't find em anywhere else, the musicians performing are Kori Gardner - Keys/Vocals Jason Hammel - Percussion/Vocals John Panos - Trumpet Kenji Shinagawa - Guitar
When I saw them in 2011, it was at a place that had a main stage and then a secondary stage. Mates of State played on the secondary stage, despite the fact that they were the only performer that evening. I wonder if it was the same 50 people there at Water Street Music Hall in Rochester, NY in 2011 as it was at the basement club in 1999.
@@retrodad1973 I know. They're on complete opposite ends of a very big state. Did I say something that insinuated that I thought Rochester was near Long Island?
So "Desire" sounds sort of similar to Ryan Adams' song of the same name. Was it an "Inspired by" track? Does anyone else know this song or think it sounds similar?

Kori and Jason are the perfect couple. I love their voices and their music! Thanks for this.
They're so lucky! Aren't they so lucky? To find someone you love dearly…AND you get to make music together forever? Sign me up.
Tiny desk never fails to make my day with these bands. Awesome.
I take it as a personal insult that this only has 50,000 views. How is that possible???
Michael M. Imagine being this deaf
Another stellar performance from my favorite band! Love you guys
Saw Mates of State in a tiny Long Island, Rockville Centre basement club in 1999 - there were perhaps 50 people there.....amazing

In love with her voice.
Hands down my favorite Tiny Desk show. How does this only have 50k views?
I remember these guys!
The way they look at each other! Funny moment in 02:22 when she bends the note on the synthesizer.. It's so unnecessary that she knows it and smiles !
And she flubs her line at 9:03! So adorable.
i love how they used a classical guitar for this performance! it's the perfect tone for something like this
Great fun music. Sing along to it as I drive to work along the colonial parkway in Virginia. Thanks guys
Saw them at the Che Guevara cafe at Balboa Park in 2006. It was the most fun, and precious crowd. How time flies.
Great sound to get through a icey winter! Very good uplifting music!
I hope to display even half of the amount of affection i see here when i'm with someone for that long! Cheers to Love and what it creates!!
Thanks for posting this, they are truly a wonderful band!

I like MoS as much as the next guy, but I find this hard to believe.
