These 2 videos on Thesis writing have dramatically improved my experience with MS Word. Thank you very much. Even the production quality of your videos was excellent.
Thank You Dr. Clark. I appreciate your easy-to-follow way of explaining this and other Word and EndNote topics. As I sit down with my PhD thesis of some 80 000 words, in the Human Science discipline of Teacher Education, your tutorial is close-at-hand as I prepare to submit. Kind Greetings from Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
Really helpful. I was getting very confused about how to add the title of the figure to the Figure as you cannot copy and paste it into the caption box, I didnt think it would work through styles! Brilliant help!
Thank you!! This is what all supervisors should do, have their own channels on youtube and get their students to subscribe and learn from the tutorials!
Thanks for posting and what a great vid. I've always had trouble with word trying to renumber and refix my figures...doing what it thinks is useful, then getting confused and not knowing what to do with the TOF's.....This now works a treat. Tables are the way forward for everything, long live the table.... :)
Really simple more said in less time. explained each step in a very detailed manner. writing my thesis with the help of this. watched your previous video about TOC. made life so much easier. Thanks a tonn
Dr Clarke; thank you so much for the video. I enjoy the way you explain each step. I tried subscribing to the Dory Video channel, however I was not aware that it was about underwater and life science. Do you have a channel specifically for Microsoft editing solutions, similar to this video?
Great info. especially the figures table and it's configuration. it makes sense when you read some documents or books and they indicate the figure and section place you wonder how much time and efforts they spent to make sure everything is aligned properly :)
Excellent tutorial. This is the first time after all my efforts I truly understand heading/style basics. Now for my present problem. There is an existing document that I wish to reformat to reflect your instructions. Please explain how I should go about this task. Thank you. Cecelia
really? the voice is recorded and to me sounds very clear. Sorry if you are having trouble hearing it, have you tried listening in a quieter room or wearing headphones?
Thanks a lot, these videos are extremely informative and well explained. Is it possible to update all figure references in the text simultaneously? Right-clicking each individually still leaves a possibility of missing one out.
Hi, I already follow you instruction, but some table for example under heading number 2, they automatically generating number 1-... not 2-... (according to heading number). Is there something wrong?
Hello sir It was really beneficial I need to ask how did you make the picture when you inserted in 1 box . I mean the result of western blot and others of A B C together. Can you show us that how you arranged them all ..
I have a problem here. My heading 1 should not have Multilevel numbers. Therefore when I do the Figure procedure you mentioned, I get Figure 0-1 for example. what should I do? If I use heading 2 it will give for example Figure 1-1-1 which is three numbers. I want two numbers.
Gina Roach I figured it out. You should give the Heading 1 numbers too but there is an option to hide that number. I forgot how I hid it but it is mentioned in Microsoft website if you can find it.
Best video for figures insertion found after lot of searching. Sir can u plz make a similar video for insertion of tables in final two column type manuscript from another word file containing all the tables..
Thanks for watching. I’m afraid I can’t do a tutorial for the thing you suggest as this is not my workflow. In fact I can’t work out why you’d need to do that. Can you explain?
@@DoryVideo Sir, i am a PhD student in pharmacy and have written an research article for publication (& need to embed tables & figures which i have sequentially aligned in separate word & ppt files) in the manuscript. Their paper submission word format shows the manuscript in a double column arrangement; i learnt figure insertion technique from video but need to do table insertion too, plz advise me on table insertion sir, thanks
Is it possible to have the Figure Legend and the Caption on the same line? I see that you pressed Enter so you separated Caption and Legend. I realised I cannot have them both on the same line and worse - all my figure legend will appear in the table of content as the whole text chunk is recognised as a caption. EDIT: I found it. It's called the Style separator and can be added with Ctrl+Alt+Enter. It permanently an inverted P symbol which does not appear during print preview. Best,
Dear Dr. Clark, thanks for this wonderful and helpful video, and thanks Derrick for this style separator, but I am surprised this is not working when the caption is inside the table. Can any one of you help with this? I want to have the table and also like Derrick the legend and the body in the same line separated just with a period.
Much appreciated - big help sorting out a corner of Word I've never got to grips with but am now having to, for a proofreading course. Was there ever an ep 3 and beyond and if so could you point me to them?
@@DoryVideo And yet this is 6 years old. Where are all the others? I'll search again. Meanwhile, thanks for the two I've seen, just the job - and good to know more in the works. Subscribed.
I get to the part at about 4:11 in your video where you're asking Word to add a Figure and numbering it, and it all goes wrong. I followed the previous video to a T, and it all worked great. I have 4 levels of Headings, currently. But, I get an error when I click on the Numbering item that says "There is no Chapter number to include..." which is quite frustrating. What am I doing wrong?
But what if you want to keep the main body of the legend in line with the figure title??? What if referring to two figures within the same brackets?? What a n absolute nightmare word is...
there IS a caption style (that can me modified) as well as making a Figure style. 1) Is the legend text associated with the caption if you Don't use the table cell??? 2) how do you add a space between "Figure 1.1 and the title (e.g. Figure 1.1_Western Blot)
I mean automatically have a space there each time you inset a caption. I've taken to just using caption to keep track of numbering, and simply label objects, and then add text.
Hi Good video i wish i had watched this before now at the early stage of my thesis, but this is my question, 1 when am creating my figures i have already grouped them into a table, now i want to create table of figures which i need to insert captions, if i insert captions the caption is coming out of the box, but if i insert it into another table the captions stays perfectly but if i decided to remove borders the captions comes out of the table again. what do i do?
Dear James, please, I am almost finishing the write up of my thesis, and would like to do the table of contents, table of figures and table of table. Thanks you a lot for these videos, it is the second that I am watching, I am not yet really used to, but I think I will manage. Please I have a question. to insert the table in the thesis, shall I follow the same setting that you used to insert figures and legend? Thank
When I insert caption for a table, I specify to include chapter number. The chapter number is 3.2.S.4.2.1.1 but the table number that comes up is table 2.1.1.1 Can anyone give some advise? Thanks
Wow, past midnight and I've learned such a lot from this video. I also sometimes put figures in a table but never thought I could do it this way, with the legend below. I wonder if you can tell me how to add an a of b or c with the figure caption but with different words in the caption and have them both in the list of figures. Like Figure 10a XXX, Figure 10b BBB - I have the two graphs in a table with two columns, but cannot get Word to recognise the second caption with the same figure number, in this case 10 - without making it an 11. It only puts the Figure 10a in the list of figures. (And there's a lot of them in a PhD I'm editing.)
I have two queries: a. What are major advantages of inserting figures inside a table? It is not yet clear to me. b. How to come out of the cell and continue typing under normal heading once figure and caption is inserted?
How did you create figure 1.1 in the first place? is there a software that you can use that combines different pictures together and labels them with 'A' and 'B'
I wonder why this vid hasn't got more comments. You, sir, are a brilliant tutor!
thanks!
