It's really not bad actually. They usually have specific check points like on the way into Canggu or Ubud. The only reason you would be stopped and checked is if you don't have a helmet on, no tshirt on etc. Not sure if you have been to Thailand but they will stop you for no reason at check points and find a reason to fine you if they can...this is not the case in Bali from my experience.

Here is what i suspect mate: if you are stopped by the police they will ask for the international drivers licence and look to see if the motorbike section is included. If it isn't you will get a fine. 500k at a Guess, hope that helps.

There's no insurance as such mate. You will just have to pay for any repairs if you have an accident.

How much is the rent for a day?
It depends where you are and if it's a scoopy or Nmax. But I'd say 1m per month for scoopy and 1.8m - 2.2m for Nmax depending on age.
