Magic Johnson understands Lin's game on a totally different level from the rest of the analysts. They all talk about his scoring, but Magic knows that to win games its about the team. You can see why he gives Lin so much praise and admiration the way he talks about it because that's the way Magic understood the game. Team first.

Makes sense, Melo's an iso player, didn't mesh well with the D'Antoni Lin pick and roll system. Melo chased D'Antoni out of NYK and then it was basically over for Lin. The team basically became "pass Melo the rock and iso". Pretty cringe.

100% hit it on the button. Carmelo did ruin this which is sad really, and I don't want to hate on Carmelo either, however when you're as prolific a scorer as Melo was in his prime, it is hard to "stand back" and let someone else in.
However, Carmelo was about himself being the "man" and not letting Lin take the place of making the team great. With Jeremy Lin, the Knicks were playing either one or two tiers above what they were really capable of. Moreover, the group of Chandler, Fields, Novak, Shump, Stoudemire played SO DAMN GOOD with Lin.
That Knicks team was SPECIAL, and I mean SPECIAL with cap letters. The D'Antoni system was perfect for Lin, and more importantly, Lin was a man who wasn't about "himself" which is something Carmelo has always had a problem with involving his gameplay, and this is why Lin made the rest of the Knicks crew during this era so amazing to watch.
Everyone of the guys I stated were playing so much better with Lin, but they wanted to play with him.
Imo, the risk of letting Carmelo go, and keeping the core while letting Lin be in the position that he was with D'Antoni, I truly believe the Knicks wouldn't have been in a long period of the Dark Ages until this current season. I'm not saying they would have been a Championship team, however they would have been Playoff contenders for multiple years post this year had they'd of gone this route.
I mean, the Knicks playing Hot, EVERYONE in the nation wanted to watch the Knicks, the ratings were ridiculous during this time frame of the NBA when Linsanity was going, these are still today the HIGHEST reg. season ratings in MSG since they kept the numbers from the year of 1989 to this current day.
However, Carmelo just couldn't get out of his own way, and wanted to be the Limelight, and even if it meant killing the team chemistry that was brought forth from Jeremy Lins gameplay, and the future excitement for the Knicks franchise for years to come.

Not "one of the best." THE best. Not even close really, if you actually watched him play, and not just in highlights, controlling, CONTROLLING, the flow of the game, the pace of the game, the way both teams played, making passes no human has any business making, making everyone on his team play at the tops of their potential. There was no point like Magic before him, and there hasn't been one since. There have been other good, and great, PGs, but Magic was a one-off.

Just in My opinion, I think How well the Knicks will do when Carmelo and Amar come back entirely depends on how the coach adjust the team. I think it is great to have Carmelo in the Game. If he is doing well with Lin, that's great; if not, Lin can rest when Melo "sing", and Lin can lead the team do some damage when Melo get Mellow. This way can make the whole team get good rest and stay healthy

Knicks dumped Lin because it doesn't work with Melo who hogs the ball. Same with Houston. Harden hogs the ball.
Magic should be a coach and McFail should be an assistant. Because McFail is hindering Lin's growth.
The reason why McFail loves Beverly is because all he does is pass it to Harden.
Magic knows that team work is more exciting and not only does it boost morale, but it makes the game that much more fun to watch.
