This video hits so many essential points I wish it were available before I moved. It’s different when you move somewhere blind and learn all this painfully vs come prepared with what to expect and plan appropriately. This is a great guide on moving to Dallas
Thanks for watching Chloe.
My electric bill in summer highest last year was 270 dollars considering my wife washes many times during the week is not bad , my temperature is always set to 73 in summer , my wife makes food 5 or 6 days out of 7 days so yeah ofc as she mentioned having a Tesla your electric bill will stack up. We don't have a pool, and our home is 2500 Sq ft. HOA I pay 300 for 6 months includes a large pool and gym . Tool tags depending where you live you might need mainly ppl that work in construction workers needed it ofc other jobs might require. I live in Dallas and haven't use I tool tag in years , air port yes you do pay as she mentioned but I also don't go to the air port every week 🙃. With Taxes , I lived in South Carolina before so use this as a reference , I had to pay State Taxes and property taxes on vehicles and our home as well , so living in SC with my wife we paid 11k in State Taxes, plus 2 vehicles 1.5k in property taxes and the house was 2k in property taxes , in total 14.5k.
When doing taxes at the end of the year you would think well i will get some money back payig all this state taxes , well my wife and I with those 11k that we paid only received 5k but including federal and state taxes the government pays that separately 2k in federal and 3k in state taxes claiming 3 kids vs here in Texas we dont pay State Taxes and still receive 3.4k from federal taxes. Living here in Texas with my wife and kids a brand new home 8.5k in property taxas , no state taxes and no property taxas on vehicles, however we do pay registration and inspection for our 2 vehicles that's about 180 dollars for 2 vehicles. Doing the math SC with state taxes vs no state taxas in Texas my wife and I still keep a little over 4k from taxes at the end of the year. Not to mention that the house we had in SC was only 1500sq ft imagine my property taxes on a 2500 probably 3.5k instead of 2k that I was paying 🤦🏽♂️
Thanks Andy for the detailed feedback, I think all this helps others thinking about moving to Dallas.
A spray foamed/radiant barrier conditioned attic space house is a must. New construction workmanship is garbage though, get a good inspection.
@everss02 it’s an option, but not cheap. Those who are wondering here is an article discussing general costs to add spray foam.

I've lived here 33 years. It was affordable 4 years ago. Not now. A $350,000 house is a fixer upper. In less desirable neighborhoods. Investors have bought up homes, slapped some paint on walls and jacked up prices. It's not worth it to live here anymore.
Hoa can range from $50 - $1000.:depends on where you at
I'm a transplant from NY...no lies detected here... this is exactly what i tell people who want to move here
Thanks @lancemathew426 for the feedback and watching the video.
Airport, get dropped off/picked up at the Car rental Center, way cheaper, no toll for airport.
Thanks for the tips @everss02
Great video. Any talk about removing the toll fees on any of the toll roads?
Not that I have heard, the tollways are run by non profit companies who collected the tolls to maintain them and pay for the bonds that were issued to pay for the projects. So in all likelihood will only go up as cost of living goes up is my guess.
why? they keep them in perfect shape, it's worth the money to drive them most the time
22:13 think about moving to Mansfield. What is the deal with property tax for 100% Disabled Veterans? Exemption or No? Thank you
Thanks for watching and reaching out. Sure thing, here are a few resources for you to check into. As property taxes are assessed by the county the home is in you would also need to review that as well.

We live in Denton County, so here is how Denton County

We are near Mansfield and we are exempt through VA disability
Thanks for sharing, my question is what about the job market? I just worried about not finding a job in Dallas.
Of course there are no guarantees in life, but current unemployment numbers were showing 3.3% which is historically low. So really depends on what you do for a living and how motivated you are.
ycharts.com/indicators/dallasfort_worth_tx_unemployment_rate_csa#:~:text=Dallas%2DFort%20Worth%2C%20TX%20Unemployment%20Rate%20is%20at%203.30%25,long%20term%20average%20of%205.17%25.
Try Nashville - its horrible! At first it was good but wow - reality settles in fast! Looking to move already
Only visited Nash once last year, had a great time. What is it about Nash you are not liking?
@@livingindfw Extremely expensive. The influx of people from very expensive states such as California, Seattle, Chicago, New York have driven housing costs beyond what the local economy can support. Our sales tax is the highest in the country
Advice for landscaping: Gravel and cactus. And water that foundation!
Well, that’s definitely the easy way to go 😉. Reminds me of Arizona. The good thing about the DFW metro is that it gets decent rain annually, so you can have grass, plants and trees. The summer at times can be very dry and hot. So may require more watering. This spring we have more water that we know what to do with. Seems like 2 to 3 inches every couple of days.
Gravel will likely make your home feel hotter, especially if you opt for darker colors. There are many very hardy native plants that will likely do fine in your landscaping. Local garden centers will help you pick those. Grass will go dormant but that is fine. It will come back. Just don’t move into a neighborhood with a stringent HOA. Some of them have a tendency to expect homeowners to perform landscaping miracles in the summer.
How common are blackouts due to storms?
We have not had one in years, it’s usually caused by downed trees and limbs onto power lines from storms and ice buildup up. Most newer communities power lines are below ground, thus not affected by that. Still have an occasional construction project digging in the wrong place though. So to your original question, not very often. If anything it would be when temps are very high in the summer and usage for air conditioning is extremely high, but even then has not happened very often.
As far as other storms like tornadoes and severe thunderstorms, power usually gets restored within a day or two. It really depends on your location and the number of people in your area also with power out. Your electric co-op or ONCOR will have an online map for you to track it.
You never mentioned what you guys paid per month for property tax?
Thanks Lee for watching and commenting. We paid about $7000 or so, but as I indicated, it really depends on where you live.
@@livingindfw bless you for replying, we will be moving from U.k to Dallas soon and was just interested that all. Thanks for your vids, me and my partner appreciate them

Ok wow! Now tell us why come to D/F area. Lol
Work is what brought us to Dallas initially. My husband took a position here in the logistics industry. We also loved the strong family environment and culture here in the area. There is so much to do, for as much as people knock on the schools, most of the schools we have been a part of have been excellent. Not to mention the economy here is awesome, you can find a job in most industries out here. I had 2 clients now relocate to Dallas for a job, and end of leaving that job for a better one within a year. So many opportunities.
@@livingindfw Thanks for the prompt and insightful response.
No one talks about the library. Why not?
In terms of it being affordable? Library is pretty affordable yes 😉
@@livingindfwwhat is library referring too?!
They were referring to public libraries in the cities.
I have lived all around DFW and the libraries are very nice. Many have cooperative agreements that give you access to other libraries in the area as well. You can also get a TexShare card that gives you access to almost any library in Texas. Even if you move to a small town with a very small library you may be able to access what you want if they participate in TexShare. Plus, the neighboring towns may not mind you joining their library. We join the library in the next town over for $50 a year because ours is too small for a library. We have more than enough resources that way.
just dont move here and ruin our state too !!
