I mean aside from disobeying his father (Mufasa), he also blatantly lied to his mother (Sarabi) and Nala’s mother (Sarafina) ..in turn putting “Nala in danger”. That all said, he was ultimately the victim of his uncle’s tactical toxicity and gaslighting..so you are correct that Scar was the dominant force in Simba’s traumas and bad happenings.

Not disney but "Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron" is another movie scored by Hans Zimmer and is absolutely one of the most underrated kids' movies of its generation. It's such an incredibly well done movie and the animation was the first of it's kind because it blended traditional hand-drawn with computer animation and they did it so masterfully especially for the early 2000's .

When this movie was made, Disney had little to no faith in it whatsoever. They were banking on _Pocahontas_ being THE BIG HIT at the time, while _The Lion King_ would just be this "side project" nobody cared about. It was even described as "Bambi in Africa", which didn't inspire confidence with the higher ups. In the end, the opposite turned out to be true: with _Pocahontas_ getting critically and commercially panned, and _The Lion King_ becoming, not only a big hit, but a global phenomenon.
_The Lion King_ is a timeless story with memorable characters, catchy songs, well drawn animation, and endearing morals. It took inspiration from _Hamlet_ , and elements from Joseph Campbell (i.e. "The Hero's Journey"). It goes to show that the people who worked on it really put their heart and soul into the movie.

To clarify: simba thought his dad's death was HIS fault because he thought HE caused the stampede and he never saw scar push his father off a cliff.
I literally grew up on this movie, I watched the hell out of the VHS tape and one day left it a daycare and never saw it again because she moved shortly after or something. And this of course was back when Disney movies weren't even available to buy whenever because of the whole "disney vault" thing. (like they didn't keep movies in stores, all the time, they'd release a limited quantity when the movie first came out, then not again sometimes for a decade) so after I lost it i couldn't get another copy. YEARS later my mon finally found one because some store just happened to have a few leftovers in storage that had been sitting there for years apparently. Best Christmas gift ever.
I'm 30 now and this movie is still near and dear to my heart. I've seen the Brodway musical, I've gone to see it in theaters for special anniversary releases, own it on DVD and i have an "Hakuna Matata" tattoo with Rafekies cave painting of Simba. I also want Elton John's version of "can you feel the love tonight" at my wedding because it's such a beautiful piece.

The Lion King is just a whole masterpiece Almost everything is perfect in the film the characters, the animation, the voice acting, the music fit perfectly well.... This movie was one of Disney's best animation at it's time And it's still is consider a classic To this day ... and that the animators did not have much faith in the film since they were inexperienced..and it turned out to be the opposite, this film has won millions of awards for best soundtrack film, and also as one of the best elaborated.. Elton John and Hans Zimmer were key to the soundtrack of this movie ....
the simply perfect voice actors fit the characters very good... We have to thank the unforgettable Jeremy irons, voice of Scar, he literally got into the role of the villain. Scar is one of my favorite Disney villains...because almost all of his plan was calculated and the way they described his character is the perfect villain, I mean, he's bad but at the same time he has charisma and personality... And he knows how to manipulate people around him to get what he want ...Using reverse psychology even on his own nephew you realize what a mastermind he is In fact, you knew that Sazu's voice is Mr Bean himself, right? and Musfasa's voice is Darth Vader from Star wars...James Earl Jones... Totally fits Musfasa Character... Just magnificent... the animators did a great job with this movie that is not only a movie to entertain but also gives important life lessons. It would be nice if you also watched more Disney classics!

What i love about scar's defeat is that it was all his fault. Like think about it, he finally got simba hanging from the edge with fire under him, he would've just throw him off and kill him once and for all, but instead he freaking gloats and confesses that he killed mufasa, which made simba and the lionesses fight back. And yet he still decides to play the victim by framing the hyenas just to save his own skin which then leads him to a gruesome death by getting eaten alive. All that because of one tiny mistake by confessing. Like really, this is why villains always fail, they just can't resist to mess with the heroes and gloat their upcoming victory only for then the hero getting the chance to take away the victory 😂

I saw this in theaters as a kid. We watched this movie every other day in first grade. We all knew the movie word for word and would recite it every single time lol Our poor teachers were talking to each other about how they kept hearing these damn songs in their sleep lmao Disney really did do a phenomenal job with this one. Easily one of their best. It was a deceptively clever way to sneak in a classic Shakespearian story into a Disney film format too. Not in my favorites anymore as I've grown far more selective on classic Disney movies, but it's definitely a fantastic film and a great way to get kids into more elevated and darker stories without really overwhelming them too much. I mean, yeah, we were ALL traumatized to actually SEE them kill off a character in the open like that in an animated movie, but there was enough humor and music and bright colors for kids to recover quickly and adapt. Disney really has a way of taking much darker children's stories and turning them into far more palatable versions of the same story. When I read the ACTUAL original Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Anderson in my early 20s... Holy crap. THAT traumatized me. I was in absolute tears for days lol

Are we missing the portrayals of Mufasa as the voice of wisdom & Scar as the strategic genius? The brothers are both written as highly intelligent. Also, the reason why Scar was not suspected by others for killing Mufasa was because of the mere fact that he’s a FAMILY MEMBER. So all of these years he believes that he is the cause of that incident. This is why he couldn't tell nala and why he felt that he couldn't go back

And because Elton John had a hand in the music, it also became a favorite of my dad and it is very much a father/son film. Many people were able to use this movie to help their children with the loss of a loved one, so it is also a very spirirual movie. So many layers and so many memories for me. Questioning about why Scar and Mufasa look different, it's because in lion society, there is only one male, and that male gets to breed with all the different females that aren't related to him. Any sons will be chased out of the pride once they're a certain age, to avoid incest and being overthrown. That really makes the romantic relationship between Nala and Simba conserning don't you think?

As a zoologist currently studying lion pride dynamics, I love that you are aware of and have some very solid key facts and points 🙌🏼!.
I will add though, that at the time of early story development back in the late 80’s, little was known to the film industry about lion pride dynamics, specifically the roles of males leading prides. Whilst it wasn’t uncommon to see a pride lead by a singular male, it was always more common for males to form coalitions, particularly in Eastern Africa where the film was primarily based. Coalitions will typically consist of brothers and cousins or closely bonded yet unrelated nomadic males… the latter a perfect loophole for Disney to use ..but they didn’t haha. Aaron Blaise (animated young Nala) has explained in livestreams that during development the idea of Nalas father had been suggested and revisited but when it was finally brought up seriously..it was last minute and Tony Bancroft (another amazing animator) explained they just scrapped the idea altogether hoping nobody would really notice it. Even earlier development of the film heavily depicted Mufasa aw Nala’s father, but it was ditched to avoid the notion of incest. It wasn’t until recently that Disney (albeit…via The Lion Guard spin-off series) gave Nala a father and his storyline depiction.

    • @snowflakewhite5068
      @snowflakewhite5068 9 месяцев назад

@@theartsyzoologist Yes, I know about the whole males banding together thing lol, I just didn't think it was important to bring up, also, I've seen some theories that Mufasa may not completely be Simba's father. The evidence is with the tufts of fur on the back of his...knees? Idk what you'd call those.
While Mufasa doesn't have them, Scar does. And as time went on, people have discovered that lionesses find dark mained males, like Scar, more attractive because they could have stronger genetics, from what I've heard at least.
Now, I'm not saying that at the time the movie was made, the animators knew this, maybe they did, maybe they didn't. They could have just put the tufts there for some extra flair. But I still think it's a fun and interesting theory.

    actually heres a twist..
scar who's real name is taka got his scar from his dad from motu(from disobeying his mother, leading her to her death, and when taka came back, he lied about what happened to her. motu was in so much rage and horror he put the scar on his eye)
years later when motu died.. mufasa became king(with sarabi being the queen) and cause mufasa who not kill his brother cause of the kind-hearted way he is, he allowed scar to stay in "pride rock." you have to remember, these are animals with no humanistic qualities(however, lions in the wild are being researched for 100 years.. with similar social structures as us humans or even gorila's)
zazu, the chief advisor to the council appointed by rafiki, and other council member: sarabii, naomi' sarabii second in the hunting party and mother to nala) these are the top lions and friends in pride rock, apart from mufasa/scar.
mufasa does keep scar around cause number1: thats his brother, pride lands his home by birthright, even if mufasa didnt die.. and got seriously old..and simba wasnt ready to lead the pride..scar is honor bound to be choose(his birthright) and hes the closet relative to the king(remember line of succession)
