This movie came out within a few months of my fathering dying. He died three days before my fourth birthday.
I had no idea at the time, but this movie shaped my beliefs, this movie made me remember my father and respect his spirit. I didn’t cry at the time, but it’s impossible to watch it without being overcome with emotions for simba. I know what he’s feeling, I know what he hopes for, and I know what he fears.
I have so much respect for my father and him trying to discipline me when his body didn’t have the strength to get up. He loves on in me and I often feel shameful of the life I’ve lived. I just want to make him proud.

I think 'The Lion King' has many traits from the William Shakespeare play of 'Hamlet'; the plot of a lowly prince attempting to exact revenge against his uncle for the murder of his father the king in order to seize the throne for himself. Hamlet is considered among the "most powerful and influential tragedies in the English language", with a story capable of "seemingly endless retelling and adaptation by others."

Seeing how much they enjoy these animated movie with a lot a heart, I would highly recommend the Studio Ghibli movies, specifically films like "My Neighbor Totoro" and "Spirited Away". They speak Japanese in the movies, but they are still beloved by many people here in America. I recommend watching them with their original Japanese audio.
