The way Scar is introduced is so significant. He plays with his food and because he doesn’t go for the kill immediately he loses it. (Zazu: “didn’t your mother ever tell you not to play with your food”) He toys with Simba before ordering the hyenas to kill him. He didn’t have to say all those things to him, because he was planning to kill him all along, but he enjoys the cruelty of making his prey suffer before the end. Just look at the little smile he has when Simba runs away from him. He relishes in it a little and gives Simba a head start, and it costs him the kill, again. And even when Simba hangs from the rocks he specifically wants him to die knowing he suffered all these years for nothing thinking he killed his father. And, again, his prey escapes him because he does exactly that. It’s an interesting dynamic they gave him. Scar is, imo, one of the most evil villains in Disney movies because he isn’t just evil, he is cruel.
Scar, despite his actions, is not evil. He has an inferiority complex. He just wants power and ignores the wellbeing even of himself. His story is so sad and it leaks out to poison everything he was dreaming to have.
Such an impactful movie for me when I was a child and even as an adult. The scene were Rafiki points to the water and says “No… Look harder. You see he’s in you” with Mufasa echoing in the clouds “Simba” still gives me goosebumps. I think it hits me harder because my dad passed when I was 13 years years old. I’m 33 years old now and that scene still touches my heartstrings. Just a phenomenal movie!
Its still very sad that Mufasa and Scar have such a bitter and resentful relationship with each other. It was implied that Mufasa was the favorite in the family while Scar wasn't. Of course, that is not the truth but Scar perceived it that way. Its also interesting that the two are such polar opposites. From personality to build. Mufasa's only real weakness was his poor judgement of character. He knew Scar didn't like him but he never would had imagined that he'd actually try to kill him the way he did. He didn't see his brother's hatred of him until it was too late. Scar hated him so much that even when is dead, he made it so petty to made a law to NEVER mention him when he is around is both petty and sad.
That dynamic between Scar and Mufasa is rooted in a lot of real life situations between rulers and siblings, there has been quite a few situations in the same way.

You know as a kid I got used to characters losing one or both parents early in a movie (i.e. Bambi and Littlefoot) but Mufasa broke me because he was in a full third of the movie! Letting the viewer get to know him and form an attachment was painful enough but on top of that (unlike Bambi's mom who dies off screen or Littlefoot's mom saying her last words) they linger on his corpse for an uncomfortable amount of time as SImba tries to get him to move. I've never seen a scene as heartbreaking as Mufasa's death. The way they focus on Simba's reaction, his cries, the music, the animation, the manipulation from scar. I cry every time 😭
Jeremy irons...did an amizing job voicing Scar He knew how to put the evil and sniky plot of The character very well Also let's not forget the excellent job James Earl Jones did as MufasaMufasa.... We also had Mr Bean as zasu..
There are theories that since mufasa is the leader he’s the father of both Nala and simba but nalas eyes look more like Scars so scar was probably fooling around on the side like happens in nature sometimes.
Probably the greatest Disney movie of all-time ✨️... I remember as a kid seeing this in theaters (and I was blessed to see it twice at the time)... Not sure if you've ever checked out Toy Story and Babe... But if you haven't, definitely check them out (and I heard you singing at the end so you definitely have a nice voice on you 👌🏾)... #LionKing #CaliforniaBlend
The live action cannot even come close to this masterpiece...everything is perfect, the live action Although it was good at certain points, it feels lifeless, on the other hand, the Original has more impact.
@@imaxischerhangus3578 Yea, I heard the same thing... Most of the people I talked to said that the live-action was "trash", especially since it didn't capture the emotion from the animated film... This is the issue with remakes because trying to catch lightning in a bottle usually only works once... A lot of remakes (especially now) are watered-down, along with pushing certain narratives... My thing is if the story is flat, so will the movie 🎬
Few things I met Matthew Broderick (grown Simba) when I was a child he is an amazing person, the stampede scene took the teams three years to complete and the teams were 3000 miles away from each other with some on the west coast and the rest in the east so there were a lot of phone calls, and business trips, Nathan lane ( timon) actually auditioned for the role of pumba and vis versa for pumbas voice actor but the casting thought they'd be perfect for the opposite roles... The look in Mufasa's eyes wasn't fear for himself it was for his son because he finally realized his brother would literally stop at nothing for what he wanted and that includes ki**ing whoever he thinks necessary, and with Mufasa not around Simba is defenseless....!!
My little cousin loved this movie so much. When it came out for presales on VHS they were giving two animation cells with it. I bought it for him and he loved it.
Amazing reaction! I really would love to react to the rest of the franchise! I’d do it in this order: The Lion King, The Lion King 1 1/2, The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride, and The Lion King Live Action. There is a tv series called The Lion Guard, which follows Simba and Nala’s second born Kion as he becomes the leader of the Lion Guard and protect the Pridelands from their enemies; it takes place during The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride and not long after its ending. Also here’s some trivia; Hyenas are actually part of the feline family and a clan of hyenas are led by a female. Also in the original storyline, they actually had planned for Scar to find Simba besides Mufasa in distraught. Scar would pick him up by the mouth and attempt to kill him. Only to be interrupted by Sarabi and the lionesses, and they would’ve thought Scar had saved him. Simba would grow with Scar being his adviser. However, the production team thought it would best for him to run away in shame, so he’d be more humble and actually grew up from his carefree life style to take his place. 🦁💛🧡❤️🖤
Fun Fact: The Lion King was based on Mansa Sundiata Keita who was the prince of the founder of the Mali Empire and Great-Uncle of Mansa Musa The Richest Man Ever!!!
This movie goes back to the core of my childhood and after hundreds of times watching this the scene where Mufasa dies is still just as potent and heartbreaking as the first time
One of my favorite movies as a kid! I used to watch this over and over again, whenever I got bowed or got sick. The remake could have been a lot better, as the animal characters in the film looked dull and dead.
Really wish we could have gotten a sequel, where we see mufasa and scar as children and find out how they became who they are, especially scar being so evil, it really feels like he never felt important to anyone.
@@Sway22 I'm not saying it's a easy project, but I believe with the right writers, you can create something special that makes the first one mean more, because we see why the actions of those characters were inevitable.

Re c. 13:53 When this came out in '94, I was on active duty in the Navy. Main Gate Movies 10 was right off post at the big base in Norfolk, and an Army officer I knew from back before I enlisted, was in town. It was on a weekend when I was, for a change, off duty, and he wanted to catch up. Wasn't much going on around town that I knew about, so we opted to see this particular picture. I'd seen it before, but this is the kind of movie you REALLY have to see in a theater to get the full experience. Now, this was a tough old officer, former Army Nurse Corps major, who'd served two tours in West Germany toward the end of the Cold War. He wasn't exactly the moviegoing type, so the sample size is kinda small here. But it was the only time in my life, that I ever saw him cry during a movie. That old Army nurse passed away in Washington, DC, in 2017. I miss you, Dad.
I loved your reaction I can't believe this is your first time watching this childhood classic. I went to the movies in the 90s to see it and it was great. I'm glad you got a chance to watch this great movie!!🎉🎉
Not only that but Simba used the move that Nala has been beating him with in every one of their fights to beat Scar, that flip over the head when tackled. Nala is the real MVP of the film.
There are so many similarities in the scene with Mufasas spirit and Star Wars Empire strikes back considering James Earl Jones also did the voice of Darth Vader. Mufasa: "Remember who you are! You are my son and the one true king!" Vader: "Search your feelings, you know it to be true!"
Best animated movie ever made, hands down. It has everything going for it. Great visuals, great music, great characters and a great story. And the ability to make this 33 year old Scandinavian dude cry like a little girl...
Everything about this movie is a masterpiece. Music written by Elton John and Tim Rice, music composed by Hans Zimmer. The animation is so beautiful, and the acting is just as beautiful. I love everything about this film. I miss when Disney made classics such as this. ❤
I went to the Drive-In to see this movie in 1994 when I was 9. It was a double feature. They played this movie first then Angels In The Outfield. Both movies were fantastic. The Lion King quickly became my favorite movie back then. I'm 38 now and it still is one of my favorite movies of all time. I love this movie.
Cali you are so Nala, pretty, cool, confident and slick with the mouth lol. Simba: Your starting to sound like my father. Nala: At least one of us does. Lmao.

I love Hamlet, I had the opportunity to play Ophelia in a play. I didn’t realize this had a similar story. Thanks for sharing!
@@Californiablend All three Lion King films take heavy influence by Shakespeare plays. This one being Hamlet, Lion King 2 is Romeo and Juliet, and Lion King 1 1/2 is Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead
it does have inspiration from the Bible... also from Shakespeare- Hamlet speicifically
This is my favorite disney movie hands down the message and the animation are great
Mine Too and Agreed Also Scar is My Favorite Character in The Lion King!
Let's be honest, who DIDN'T like Nathan Lane and Ernie Shelly on this movie? They were iconic favorites.
I enjoyed seeing your im impressions like this was real life happening in front of you
I really enjoyed your reaction, it was so wholesome and lovely, I can’t believe this is your first time watching this movie. I hate to think what you grew up with if it wasn’t classic Disney💔 but seriously most people that react to these movies, psychoanalyze and break down a lot of things that critics might be interested in but it’s nice to see just a genuine reaction💋🤙 very nicely done
Very nice scripture reference, cool react, Timone dancing to advertise Pumba killed me. forgot how I loved that dance, Stay safe k..
13:07 this little side shot of Mufasa, To me, he looks a little like the Grown Up Simba. Which is awesome if that was intentional by the creators
I'm not sure if you have already seen it or not but Treasure planet is a great Disney movie.
The emperor's new groove and Atlantis the lost empire are also great movies as well.
Just a few suggestions 😁
I've never seen a scene as heartbreaking as Mufasa's death. The way they focus on Simba's reaction, his cries, the music, the animation, the manipulation from scar. I cry every time 😭
I hate scar but man the voice actor did an awesome job! The whole cast did so amazing this movie will always be a must watch
Scar's a great heel. If Jeremy Irons wasn't excellent, that wouldn't be possible.
9:40
Damn, they actually synced up pretty well there! 😂
Probably the greatest Disney movie of all-time ✨️... I remember as a kid seeing this in theaters (and I was blessed to see it twice at the time)... Watching Mufasa trying to save Simba in the middle of that stampede in a THEATER?!?!?... Definitely soul-shaking!!!... Glad you got a chance to check this out... Not sure if you've ever checked out Toy Story and Babe... But if you haven't, definitely check them out (and I heard you singing at the end so you definitely have a nice voice on you 👌🏾)... #LionKing #CaliforniaBlend
Never mind best Disney movie, it’s one of the best movies of all time
@@marktallentire3464 💯
The lion king is more than a movie, it's more than a masterpiece. This is art.
Rest in peace to the beautiful Jamaican Legend Madge Sinclair. ( She also played the queen in the movie coming to America ).
I never cried when i saw this movie first time as a child i knew it was just a movie and i laughed so hard when Timon and Pumbaa always showed up 😂😂😂
This movie goes back to the core of my childhood and after hundreds of times watching this the scene where Mufasa dies is still just as potent and heartbreaking as the first time
Best Disney villain song IMHO and the most heartbreaking death scene of any animated movie.
I recommend for you the lion king 2 and 3, of course the original is the Best but their still amazing
(At 16:50) oh yeah, I forgot Matthew Broderick was on this movie.
(At 6:45) the recognizable trio everyone can't forget.
Shenzi: Whoopi Goldberg
Banzai: Cheech Marin
&
Ed: Jim Cummings
One of my favorite movies as a kid!
I used to watch this over and over again, whenever I got bowed or got sick.
The remake could have been a lot better, as the animal characters in the film looked dull and dead.
One of the my top favorite movies.
I think the this was an adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamlet.
Really wish we could have gotten a sequel, where we see mufasa and scar as children and find out how they became who they are, especially scar being so evil, it really feels like he never felt important to anyone.
I want to agree but at the same time I feel like it would be hard to have a satysfying ending on that one since... well we know what happens.
wouldn't that be a prequel?
@@craigime yes technically it's a prequel but godfather 2 was a sequel and a prequel, you can do it like that.
@@Sway22 I'm not saying it's a easy project, but I believe with the right writers, you can create something special that makes the first one mean more, because we see why the actions of those characters were inevitable.
@@christopherking4932 I feel like ot would be better if they made a movie about Ahadi and Uru (Mufasa's and Skaza's parents). And it would wnd with them being born. They would have more freedom to make an interesting story sonce we don't really know anything about those two.
9:36 "I won't be able to sit for a week"
I heard that right when I was a kid😶
Girl, how have you never seen this?? Lol. At least you have the freshest reaction anyone our age would ever have to this masterpiece
This movie was a huge hit. And Elton John wrote some great songs for this film. But you need to check out the "honest trailers" of this film. It is amazing lol
The Lion King is the Disney-ized version of Hamlet.
No wayyy! First time watching?
The casting in this was impeccable too. James Earl Jones, Jeremy Irons, Matthew Broderick, Rowan Atkinson, Whoopi Goldberg, Jim Cummings etc.
Lion King is my favorite movie from my childhood ❤️🦁
mine too. It was just on broadcast television this past Sunday.
CB, this movie is based on "Hamlet" a Shakespeare play. Although it has a Disney ending ;)
0:46 that was my reaction (and the entire theater's reaction) when I first saw this movie at the age of 6 back in 1994. Glad to see people still jump not expecting it. :)
One☝️of my favorite🤩things about the Lion🦁King👑is that it actually did take some inspiration from the Bible📖, particularly from the accounts of Joseph and Moses; as a Christian myself, I just love😍that they just sprinkled that in there! Great👍reaction and God bless!
26:38 although this movie was scary and unnerving for the most part, except for Timo and Bumba's scenes this scene brings a smile to my face😀
James Earl Jones
10/10 voice acting
i'm surprised you watched this movie for the first time only yesterday
Re c. 13:53
When this came out in '94, I was on active duty in the Navy.
Another classic reaction. Ended my Monday with a laugh. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I loved your reaction I can't believe this is your first time watching this childhood classic. I went to the movies in the 90s to see it and it was great. I'm glad you got a chance to watch this great movie!!🎉🎉
I saw tis movie at the cinema. O own on DVD and VHS and watcg it often. No matter how many times i watch it, I always cry.
There’s an entire generation of us that are still ironically scarred for life because of the long live the king scene
LONG LIVE THE KING
17:22 I have been sick for 4 days and feel horrible. This made me laugh so much, thank you!
Thanks for watching! Get well soon !
You should watch Lion King 2. Id love to see your reaction to it!
If this is where the monarchy is headed count me out. But Rowan still went to the coronation.
I was a 90's baby and I even had the lions mane in '94!
Whenever I watched this with my big sister, she liked pointing out that Nala was the first jump in the final battle.
You are my son and the one true king!"
Vader: "Search your feelings, you know it to be true!"
Best animated movie ever made, hands down. It has everything going for it. Great visuals, great music, great characters and a great story.
And the ability to make this 33 year old Scandinavian dude cry like a little girl...
The circle of life reminds me of the Nativity scene
This movie came out when I was 5yrs old and it has always been my favorite movie
I've watched this movie literally 1000 times, mostly when I was little. I know every line lol
Me too.
Greatest Disney/animated movie ever and top 10 grestest of all films. My 3rd favorite movie of all time
Cali you are so Nala, pretty, cool, confident and slick with the mouth lol.
Simba: Your starting to sound like my father.
Nala: At least one of us does.
Lmao.
0:32 Mufasa and Sarabi: "(Individually and nonverbally to Simba) I'm *SO* proud of you"
Watch lion king 2 next!!
The second one is awesome!!
My absolute fav disney movie of all time ❤
Rafiki reminds me of John The Baptist and Yoda
Disney is great now how about some Don Bluth (my favorite childhood movies lol). Land before time, Secret of Nimh, An American Tale, All Dogs go to Heaven, Anastasia.
