@@VicSellsPeace there’s definitely some accidentals in there, maybe too many for some. I thought it sounded fine. Would probably sound pretty sick live.
Marty Friedman once mentioned Hotel California by name in an interview regarding how he writes his solos. He said that he uses a song as a backing track and tries to solo over the chords. Just so happens that both ToS and Hotel California are in B minor
I may just be Mandela-ing myself here but I'm confident I remember seeing a comment somewhere on a video before the one we're commenting on here was uploaded that elaborated on this connection, something about how Marty's intent when looking for these backing tracks was to see how far he could stretch it in order to fit the song he was actually writing for, and that it all hinged on staying in the same key. The point of this comment was essentially that it's no coincidence at all, just Marty never stated "I used X for X" implicitly as such. I've since scanned across different uploads of Tornado of Souls trying to find that comment to no avail, but I'm certain it existed at some point because it finished with a phrase like "I feel like I've found a 20 year old Easter egg" or similar phrasing to that effect and it was the first time I remember hearing of the connection.
@@HS_Gomikubi that's intriguing. 😄 i couldn't find anything supporting these claims yet. i found a 2023 interview for ultimate guitar, about this specific track, and he ditinctly said he did it the way he always does, by "winging it". read the description, he even admits its very unoriginal it was actually some random nobody kid that did it first on youtube and he nails it too, the reason they work together so well is by design, from Marty not Bradley xD

Bro the way you went in on that first bend of the Tornado of Souls solo over Hotel California was fire! 🔥 It took me back to the first time I listened to Marty’s magic! Listening to it being played over a different song feels like re living that experience again. Good shit! 👏🏽
The hotel solo over tornado was good, but Marty’s over hotel was incredible! Obviously, it’s Marty, so his solo’s gonna come out on top over just about anyone in history, but they’re both still good
I'd love a cover band idea that has the same concept. Putting other songs solos over classics. That'd be super interesting. Legit great video idea and execution.
Hearing them side by side like that you can hear the influence the Hotel California solo had on guitarists, Tornado of Souls definitely has some of that DNA. Love how well it fits.
There are so many good, fantastic guitar players out there. But Bradley is absolutelly phenomenal. I don't mean only the technical aspect, which IS great, but his musicianship is amazing. Inspiring!!!!
This is legitimately brilliant work. I don't know what else to say except there's at least one veteran Bass player in awe of your skill, it's beyond the guitar alone.

Lmao truth
It’s not 1-1. Some of the notes were changed to fit the slightly different chord progression.
Yep xD
he’s not playing it the same so if you use this to learn the solo you won’t be learning it accurately
Define "accessible" hahaah
Marty's solo over Hotel is incredible. Just makes me love his choice of notes even more if that's possible.
That's why I love him and the stuff he did with JB in cacophony. Technically amazing yes, but for me it sounded so different and interesting.
@@AJPMUSIC_OFFICIAL He avoided the obvious and surprised the ear much like JS BACH. Surprise is the essence of music. Without it music is dead.
Gotta give Bradley some credit here as well, he did transpose a few of the licks to better fit the underlying chord.

Hotel California with the Tornado solo sounds best out of the two.
These two solos actually work so well with both songs. I would've never even thought of it. You're a damn legend, Bradley.
I think it’s cause they’re both in B minor
I agree.
The minor pentatonic scale is cool that way
Marty Friedman once mentioned Hotel California by name in an interview regarding how he writes his solos. He said that he uses a song as a backing track and tries to solo over the chords. Just so happens that both ToS and Hotel California are in B minor

This is why Marty Friedman is one of my favorite guitarists. Dude can shred, but his musicality and note choices are impeccable
He's up there with Andy LaRoque in that area
This is amazing. He still manages to keep the original feel of each solo even though the notes are different.
Wow, works super well. Great job! The Tornado of Souls solo became so chill and melodic.
That's why even aggressive genres like Death Metal have their melodic subgenres. The melody is always there.
