    Marty Friedman once mentioned Hotel California by name in an interview regarding how he writes his solos. He said that he uses a song as a backing track and tries to solo over the chords. Just so happens that both ToS and Hotel California are in B minor

    • @HS_Gomikubi
      @HS_Gomikubi Год назад +19

      I may just be Mandela-ing myself here but I'm confident I remember seeing a comment somewhere on a video before the one we're commenting on here was uploaded that elaborated on this connection, something about how Marty's intent when looking for these backing tracks was to see how far he could stretch it in order to fit the song he was actually writing for, and that it all hinged on staying in the same key. The point of this comment was essentially that it's no coincidence at all, just Marty never stated "I used X for X" implicitly as such.
      I've since scanned across different uploads of Tornado of Souls trying to find that comment to no avail, but I'm certain it existed at some point because it finished with a phrase like "I feel like I've found a 20 year old Easter egg" or similar phrasing to that effect and it was the first time I remember hearing of the connection.

    • @recordednowhere
      @recordednowhere Год назад +9

      @@HS_Gomikubi that's intriguing. 😄 i couldn't find anything supporting these claims yet. i found a 2023 interview for ultimate guitar, about this specific track, and he ditinctly said he did it the way he always does, by "winging it".
      "After further investigation, including searching through RUclips interviews and discussions, there still appears to be no specific reference or evidence that Marty Friedman practices, improvises, or writes solos over Eagles records. While I found interviews where Friedman talks about his approach to playing guitar and his influences, none of these specifically mention practicing over Eagles tracks.
      It's possible that this detail about Friedman might be a less-known fact or a misconception, as it doesn't appear in mainstream interviews or discussions available online. If you're still curious, you might want to explore deeper into fan forums, more obscure interviews, or his lesser-known talks where he might have mentioned something about the Eagles. For now, though, the available online sources, including RUclips interviews, don't confirm this particular claim."

      ... well, he wrote this on twitter in 2016:
      "When I lived in Phoenix, the desert drives to LA or Vegas were never complete without an Eagles album. Thank you Glenn Frey. RIP"

    I remember when you first got that guitar. It’s been fun seeing the slow grimification of the fretboard.

    Utterly amazing! It took me quite a while to get my brain to not be confused by the mashups I was hearing as I was trying to go along with the original song's solo...LOL!

    Found out about Bradley Hall because a girl on Tinder messaged me with a gif of Brad in drag with shit make up and the caption "hello there"
    She had no idea of the source unfortunately but jokes on her, I'm a metalhead and now fkn love this channel
    I don't think she's talking to me anymore

    I like how you can tell it's the guitar hero track since the audience vocals from guitar hero were left in the mix.
