This solo encompasses so much technicality, being able to play it correctly at full speed like felt like graduating guitar-academy. Took me 20 years and I'm still not consistent in nailing it!

Dude you can't beat yourself up for not getting Marty solos to sound right. He has such a weird picking style and is incredibly expressive for metal. Your vibrato sounded sooo close, really impressed. The sweep timing too, I dunno if it's just me, but when I hear Marty do it, it seems like he's kind of behind the beat. It always seems like he hangs on just a split second then releases on bends, sweeps, etc. But yah, your playing doesn't sound like generic Instagram shred. You have a great tone and feel, much respect.

Awesome video. The recent recording is obviously incredibly impressive, but I love the teenager one because you can feel the drama of your younger self trying to nail an incredibly difficult piece, and hear the little mistakes and instances of string noise, compared to the new recording, where you can definitely hear that you’ve been playing this solo for years and have a totally valid interpretation in your own right, the same way Kiko and Chris Broderick do. Sort of a Gary Moore vs Jason Richardson type of thing- both incredibly awesome in their own ways. I’ve been playing a couple years and am approaching your teenage self’s level of abilities, so this was incredibly inspiring to see.

Memory's a little hazy, but I'm pretty sure I found out about this solo through you, Bradley. From one of your Tornado of Souls mini-series (Thanks btw!). After that, I decided to search for the song and found Kiko Loureiro's playthrough and after finishing said video, I said to myself "I must learn this song!". That was when I started to get into more technical playing, have put many hours on the solo and still trying to learn that part to this day.
And then on February last year, late into the night, I was several hours in on learning and grinding the solo, I suddenly had a chest pain (either it was caused by fatigue or by my medical condition) and I passed out. My dad went to toilet and saw me on the floor in my room, thankfully I didn't close the door or else my family wouldn't have known I collapsed. Even after that event, I'm still as obsessed as ever when it comes to this solo, albeit, being a little more careful, so I don't collapse again. 😅
I guess that's one of the stories of my journey with this solo and guitar playing in general. Felt like sharing this story, after seeing your journey with the solo. And again, thanks for introducing me to this great song. 😄

Fuck yeah!! man, that was sick, thanks for showing us your evolution. this is exactly what i was needing to watch on these days. i've been playing guitar for almost 15y and most of the time i was frustrated(still am) cause i couldn't play some shreds solos like As i am from Dream Theater (still can't) but when you look back and see how far you've come, it greatly minimizes frustration
    Great job bro, keep rocking!!

Excellent choice in the subject of this video. I sometimes look at myself and I'm like, why did I take years to perfect certain solos? What's wrong with me when guys like Bradley Hall do it so quickly? Well, there you go. There's nothing wrong with that, it's the same for everyone. I think you may have won an award for most videos on the Tornado solo.

Now this was a cool journey. I loved both solos. I tend to appreciate the attempt to give it a go with limited resources. The now version sounds better and more polished, but damn Bradley, you were awesome as a youngster, and have just gotten better.

I see what you mean is you finally learned your own version of the solo!
I like the sweeping part but, in my opinion, it has tried to replace the most iconic part of and iconic solo.
I mean... still fucking awesome and I couldn't get anywhere near doing that!!!

Man, when I was 16 I did nothing but playing guitar. My first wall that I hit was Kirk's solo in Master of Puppets, it took an eternity to get it right. Now with 36 I'm pretty confident and consistent to get it right even with 6 beers in my blood but it was a long way there. Countless hours of practicing, I remember going insane when all I did was spider exercises for 5 hours a day... for weeks. But eventually, I am where I am now and I don't miss any second of it to be honest.
    Never stop playing

This tracks with my experience. What you have by the age of 16-17 in terms of ability is 80% of all you'll ever have. It's absolutely frightening how much you can learn as a child with seemingly no effort, and how grueling it is to keep climbing the hill after your mid 20s. Kudos to you and thanks for all the videos!

Love this video because of just how true it is. Many times in my playing I get really down, but then I take a look back at a demo from just a year ago, then 2 years, then 3, and I just realize how much my playing has drastically improved. Guitar is one of those things that just subtly gets better with time, and it can be hard to realize it.
