Red Flavor turned Red Velvet into summer queens of Korea and the song became the summer anthem of kpop. The Russian Roulette mv is super cute and colorful until you realize that they’re trying to kill each other!! It’s totally Red Velvet’s style.

red flavor is one of the most iconic kpop summer bops, it's SO catchy it's insane. when it was released everyone and their mum knew the dance, even now if u play the song, 99% of all kpop stans/idols will be able to dance along to the chorus xD
I love how they used pop art in russian roulette. It gave that retro feeling. And it's always fun to watch how the reactor would realize that the girls all were trying to kill each others. Hahahahahaha
it's always funny to see how long it takes ppl to realise they're killing each other in the russian roulette mv xD if u rewatch it you'll probably notice all the things in the beginning hhh

Russian Roulette is such a visually interesting MV, sort of a stepford wives-ish unsettling energy meets pop art visuals. It's hilarious to see the confusion settling in as the feeling of something being "off" slowly increases! The string game is Cat's Cradle btw.
Rookie isn't meant to be creepy but I always found the abominable flower-man terrifying. Omg no not Midsommer, I watched it after Key mentioned it as a favourite film and I am scarred for life. It was Seulgi not Wendy at 7:41, Wendy was at 7:46!
Red Flavor was THE summer song the year it was released. I love the slightly surreal/absurd imagery they often have in their MVs. Some groups have representative animals, RV have fruits!

Also, if you have TikTok, you might recognize the choreo in Russian Roulette... it was EVERYWHERE for a bit as a trend, but the funny/sad thing is most of the people probably had no clue it was originally a kpop thing.
They really didn't. There's a ton of people who didn't credit Red Velvet and said it was their choreo and most people believed it.

Red velvet has been known since debut to have a FRESH vibe about them and their music which was another reason why RED FLAVOR was and still is such a famous hit song in Korea that even farmers know this song there. And remember red velvet has a witch concept and each member has a designated color and it's shown through fruits in red flavor mv and also their power mv and happiness mv

"Red Flavor" instantly became SK's official summer anthem that charted for an absolutely insane 62 straight weeks. BILLBOARD voted it best song released by a girl-group in the last decade.
And you're right, Hangul doesn't have an "R" sound. Strangely enough... it doesn't have a "V" sound either. Ironic then that they would name a Korean group "Red Velvet."
Which would explain why you'll hear it constantly pronounced in Korean as "Ledu Belbet."

I've been loving your Red Velvet journey, cant wait to see what you check out next from them! When you have the chance to dive into a new group I recommend MAMAMOO, I really think you would love their music. They are known for being vocal queens and their discography is ver diverse, a lot of r&b, great bops and even a jazzy feel in the beggining of their careers. I hope you get a chance to check them out sometime
Hi I know I am new in your youtube channel but I just want to give you tips on Red Flavor.
Since someone already give you a hint bout the fruits they were designated to. As what you have seen, they were talking to the fruits. That fruits was like their old self. They were interviewing their old self. You can also see that they watered the tiny plants and it had grew.
If you try to rewatch the mv, pay attention when they were interviewing the fruits. They were lots of sentences on the headline on the bottom part. Describing their self.
Also, you can see in the video how Irene recreate her picture when she was a child, the maroon stripe(?) dress, how seulgi was once a student being scolded by teacher and also wendy being a graduate student.
Red Flavor always makes me cry. It being about growing up hits home, I’m 21 and I’m still learning who I am. It never gets easier, but I’m trying.

it's so funny how you said that the title was Russian Roulette but the mv was bright and then proceed to be clueless about how they were trying to kill each other throughout the video but sensing that something was wrong. The power of creative directing!
You said you looked up the english lyrics of Russian Roulette and it talked about shooting your shot, and that's what the MV was about. Figuratively and literally. The song was about confession and the MV showed what would happen if the love interest rejected them. That's why the MV was colorful because it represents the love they had but they were stoic because the love wasn't reciprocal. To visualize the effect of rejection they tried to kill each other, several times in the MV. They used the crow to symbolize that too as if saying 'love me or die. because if i can't have you, no one else can.'
i recommend some funny moments videos to get their personalities
my favorites are seulbearish videos such as their "red velvet being chaotic" video series and the specifically the "red velvet being chaotic anniversary edition" part 1 and 2 is one best to discover their current personalities
id love to watch u watch anysort of red velvet videos though!
obviously there is also the red velvet a mess series thats good, i feel like you really only start to see their whole personalities around 7 - 10 but after that they are really good :)
When redvelvet is happy then pizza delivery people end up missing. Think serial killers...😂 cause they definitely kill their stans with their vocals and visuals. Great reaction and no matter what your preferences once you start listening to their songs then all the songs become bops. The rv effect. I didn't know what to think about rookie or Russian roulette but after a couple times they're 2 of my fav songs.
their red side is their bright side but the mvs are dark the concept is dark... in Russian roulette they were killing each other.... , in rookie joy was the only one in diffrent situation rest were kinda like prisoners

Welcome to Red Velvet's (by now) trademark quirky/weird MVs! While Happiness and Ice Cream Cake were kinda weird in some places, Red Velvet have fully embrased their quirky-side with these MVs. And I love it :D In the Russian Roulette MV they're basically hurting/killin' each other since they all like the same boy. And for me the lyrics compare the thrill and uncertainity of a new love with a game of russian roulette, while using the imagery of the game throughout. Rookie is basically an acid trip xDD Joy gets the girls to smell something at the beginning and everything goes crazy :D it's a song that you either like or hate, kinda, it was pretty polarizing upon release, but the korean fans went crazy for it after seeing the live stages (it has an amazing choreo, which even has a dance practice - a rarity for RV sadly). Red Summer immediately became Korea's Summer Anthem and gave them their Summer Queens title! It's such a fresh summer banger that's universally liked! It always lifts my mood :D for me the "red flavor" in the song stands for summer or everything you like during summer. Kinda hard for me to explain. It probably makes more sense in korean, these translations sometimes can't really capture the true meaning. And while the MV is so quick and seems all over the place, it does depicts their individual growth (the text constantly running at the bottom talks about growth as well), just like fruit becomes ripe with time. Like I said at the beginning of your journey with Red Velve it never gets boring, music-wise or visually ♥

I don't care for Velvet side, I'm ok for normal red songs like Red Flavor or Rookie but I like RedRumVelvet like Russian Roulette or Peekaboo.
OK, so I used to think I didn't like Rookie at all - too cutesy and repetitive with lots of the cute talk-rap stuff, buuuut I recently came around to it. I heard that baseline and all the other parts of it stood out to me more and I was like OH ok, I GET this song now. HAHA :D It's still not one of my top favorites but I enjoy it when it comes on and don't skip it. Red Flavor is sooooo ICONIC. Growing up.
