I f you are bloody well old enough, you still remember your first transistor radio. Mine had a pull out whip antenna that worked best leaned against the wall just so. Now, we have Beats Headphones that always sound just right!

I remember the day that song came out, as we always were listening to the top 40 stations and that song was one of the bangers of the year. I was 10, but my sisters were older and had a transistor radio so we could always listen outside.

Listening to the Beach Boys being in Tennessee NW summers. I was around eight, enjoying the time of doing some of what mom wanted, seeing friends, and swimming in the Obion River. No tech stuff like now, the phone rings no recorder, on the table and I am either outside or home, with no one asking about answering the phone. This was simple, for you, and great to listen to again. That shirt you have on could have been worn back in my time for summer, looks great on you.
The intro to this song is done perfectly! I have always wished it could be repeated again in the song..I have to listen to it over and over because I can't get enough of it..most covers don't care how they play it, but you guys did care!! Thank you.

Thanks, Sina. I love the Beach Boys and as simple as it may seem, I really think that cymbal intro is kinda brilliant.
Legendary session drummer Hal Blaine played on the original recording and many more. He was always told to keep it simple so Dennis could play BB tunes live. Hal played drums on probably hundreds of recordings from this era.
It's just different sounding and I've heard Hal play this hundreds of times.
Having watched your tutorials on how to drum, I now know how ‘routine’ this drum beat is. It makes me more aware of much more challenging more sophisticated and intricate other drum riffs you have done truly are.

The past 5+ yrs I’ve called that ‘ The Sina Affect’ whereby once being introduced to her covers , you never hear songs the same, you wish every song was more drum-forward 🌴
If you are ancient like me, then maybe we are most familiar with this song from our childhoods, coming at us on AM radio in a crappy car speaker or transistor radio that really wouldn't do percussion many favours.

Indeed Hal Blaine was unique, his driving sounds on so much 60ies songs made those so familiar, just take >>> San Francisco, Good Vibrations, Aquarius, California Dreaming, Windy, Indian Reservation, The Boxer, The hazy shade of winter, Up up and away, Tambourine Man, Close to you,.......just to name but a few.
