I watched this episode when it was broadcast, and I recall thinking that "California Man" was by far the highlight of the whole show. It's a shame that the official Midnight Special youtube channel doesn't have this in the high quality it deserves.
I saw this first night it aired in '78. I had just seen them live in my hometown with AC/DC shortly before this. I can't believe all this time has elapsed. Very happy days in my life.
I 💯% agree. I first saw them in 1977 when they opened for KISS in San Francisco and they were raw and powerful. But the 2nd time I saw them was at an outdoor stadium in San Jose, CA in 1979. They played with Pat Travers Band and went on right before the headline act which was Blue Oyster Cult. CT played for 75 minutes and it was the loudest CT concert I've ever attended. And I've seen them over 25 times live from 1977 thru 2014!!!!! 👍🎸
