"Do we hate it because it could be better? Or do we like it because it could be worse?"
Holy shit, I had to listen to that line like 10 times in a row, because it perfectly encapsulated everything I've been feeling about Marvel after Endgame, and pretty much all of Disney Star Wars (with a few small exceptions. I like TLJ, and no one can ruin that for me. Also, season 1 of Mandalorian is one of my favorite Star Wars things period.)
It's all been an endless sea of homogenized mediocrity that's simultaneously not bad enough to hate, and also not good enough to praise, it's just... there. It's not good, it's not bad, it just... is.
They're too scared to fail at trying to make something exciting and new, so they choose to succeed at making something bland and forgettable instead.

Mando 1 is pretty good. It's like The Outlaw Josey Wales in space.
I very much disagree with you on TLJ. Sure it had some big twists, but a twist that exists just for it's own sake, rather than to serve the story, is cheap. Literally every action taken by the heroes, or the villains, in that movie end up being completely pointless thanks to those subversions. A prime example, is Luke's force projection. The point of doing something like that, from a literary point of view, would be to serve as a distraction, whilst also keeping oneself out of harms way. However, he just dies anyway. So he may as well have just showed up in person. The reason this is a good example is because it has one twist, which serves the plot, then another twist immediately afterwards that effectively kneecaps the first twist. This kind of thing happens multiple times. Johnson is constantly stepping on his own toes in an effort to step on the audiences toe.

When it comes to the entire timeline of the franchise, I would be considered a pretty late entrant, with even the prequels a little bit before my time. Despite never really experiencing the craze personally, Star Wars was a huge part in my childhood. One of my most treasured possessions was the box set of 1-6, which would get watched through at least once a year, and the complete visual dictionary, which I could look through and be entertained for hours with the just-believable enough science fiction that went into the series.
People always focus on the marketability of Star Wars, the toys and whatnot, but that never was I cared about, with probably about two lego sets and not much else. It was never a franchise for me, but more of an awe-inspiring world that I thought could bring any story to the table, make any kind of character interesting, make me cheer for any hero as much as collude with any villain. KOTOR wowed me with the same impact of storytelling, and even with the prequels being lackluster in many ways, I still loved the depth of the world and the intrigue you could see in them, and would eagerly play any game or watch any show that gave me another glimpse.
Although they might have been a bit too ambitious and the writing pretty awful, the prequels were still special in how the story never left current events yet something was always happening beyond the screen, and it made the world feel real. Whether it was the Clone Wars raging in the background or political intrigue, there was always another angle to the story. While the original trilogy might not have had that same depth, the likeability of the characters, their development, and the uniquity of the trilogy made them special to me regardless.
As you and many others have said, however, that charm and depth have entirely disappeared. The state of Star Wars has passed from me wondering how something off screen could have happened, how interesting it would be to see it in detail, to Disney trying to fill in those gaps themselves for the sake of filling, for another opportunity to produce a mediocre movie or show that can slap a bandaid of mediocre satisfaction over a gap that didn't need to be covered in the first place. I used to crave more content, wish for another look into the Clone Wars or the Old Republic, but at this point I've just grown callous and would be happier if they left anything and everything alone to never be touched again. The new trilogy didn't kill my love of what came before it, but the tasteless trite that I've watched killed any interest in any new content. There was no more intrigue, and I was never left wondering what was happening off screen because nothing did happen off screen. I've come to think that any intriguing narrative needs to hide something from its consumers, be that the greater implications of the story, the potential of the protagonist, something, but reveal it in a palatable way that feels natural.
The saddest part of this all is that Star Wars could have all this again, and it can still have that awe that inspired so many. I enjoyed Star Wars after it was in its prime, and I still loved every minute of it. I played KOTOR for the first time after the new trilogy came out and loved it. That same inspiration is still there, but as long as Star Wars continues like it is the new content will never have that inspiration.
Ahh, it feels good to rant about Star Wars.

I honestly think there was a good story that could have been told here. I use rebels as my basis for that. In rebels, Kenobi is so wise and strong that he is able to defeat Maul in one blow, purely by using his intelligence to bait him into using the same attack that killed Qui Gon.
I think that there's room to tell how the Kenobi from the end of ROTS became the Kenobi from Rebels, because there is at least a little bit of a noticable difference

As Yoda says at the end of episode 3, this is what his path on Tatooine will be ...and THIS is the story the show should have told! How does this training happen? What is the cosmic force? What does the cosmic force feel like and how is it different from the living force? Are there mental challenges? Who are the Whills and what is their part in Obi-Wan learning to become a force ghost? Do the Whills accept Jedi as immortal beings just like that or are they reluctant at first and maybe try to interfere? Literally so much potential for a mind-blowing show and story!

I liked the book of boba fett, although the story wasnt too complex, and it felt a little out of wack with boba's character, it was still enjoyable to watch and had an engaging plot. Kenobi is just absolutely terrible, the whole plot is basically just centered around how a 10 year old princess leia outsmarts literally everyone she comes in contact with, along with some obi wan to make sure the people are getting what the title says. Obviously its a bit deeper than that, but I couldn't get myself to finish the show, every character interaction is so void and predictable its painful to watch. This show could (and should) have been Kenobi taking a deep dive into what the Force is, discussing Anakin and the prophecy with Qui-Gon, and connecting how Yoda and Obi-Wan approach Luke differently than they did Vader. It could even have shown why they waited until Luke was an adult to train him. It could have elaborated on the ideas from TCW about the cosmic/living Force.
But, of course, that show would have been white men talking and growing without women or BIPOC to lecture them, and required imagination to add depth to our understanding of the saga. So we got the hollow meaningless tripe instead. I can't even understand why they thought a 6 part 'homage' to the saga episodes made sense when using **literally** the same characters that are already part of the saga story they are mimicking. It would make sense (even though boring) to do an homage in a video game with different characters, but not this.

I think my biggest takeaway from not just SW and Marvel but a lot of entertainment companies in general is the fact that they feel the need to produce so much "Content" now that they have 55 shows or movies coming out in a single year or two. Seriously Disney has at least 3 to 4 new SW shows coming out this year through next year and Marvel at least 3 new shows coming out this year through next year.
The problem is these companies are doing this not just because they want to make as much money as possible, but also because they are trying to shield themselves from any criticism for how bad the shows and movies they make actually are. The reaction of the fanbase proves it. Especially when it comes to Disney. Ever since the Mandalorian SW has been under the idea that "Its at its best" and people are praising some of it as "The best SW content ever." BUT that's what they ALWAYS say and they completely forget about it afterwards, they completely forget about the constant pattern of bland, terribly written and terribly executed shows that continue to spew out of this figurative sludge pipe.
As long as people continue to praise Disney and give themselves the impression that SW is as good as it was when the OT an PT were around and as long as they forget the pattern of quantity over quality then we wont ever get any real stories of real quality, because its AAAALLLL about the next thing, content and more content and moooooore content.
    Let the sludge flow continue...

its somehow comical. George Lucas created them a entire galaxy with untold storys, worlds and lore elements which only requires to not f up with the already told story by George Lucas.
And while dozens of Fans of the franchise create their own fanservice theorys which simply dont work really and are just classic fan-fiction which is over the top - a certain part of this fans is able to create better stuff than a billion$-movie-company.
there are for example even simple edits of kenobi scenes in which the cuts are changed and suddenly its like good directing / editing and makes sense (like the Kenobi escapes, Vaders force holding the ship and Reva betrayal scene just as one scene - and ta-da Vader and Reva doesnt look like total idiots) - the youtuber who created a better CGI-Luke - most pre/post saga legend stoys which disney somehow fails to copy in a decent 1:1 way (for which they very likely de-canonized it to then recycle it and re-sell it)

there is an element you're over looking. Fans and George Lucas don't and didn't have companies over-looking and fighting over the vision of a story. these writers have to appease executives, producers, other writers they work with, and they have a time crunch. there is a lot more going on. Disney is also desperate to fill out content for its streaming service so its more about quantity than quality. so little things like Leia's chase scenes, the getting Roken to help scene, etc. don't get the proper attention to be fixed; or in the more extreme case of Book of Boba Fett, have a 2 season story get smashed into a 6 episode season. Mandalorian has been good because there is one vision with a clear plan for their story and it's obvious that it has been pre-planned and more time has been devoted to editing.

For me personally, the canon of Star War ends with episode 6, everything after that is bad fan fic and the only shows I accept are Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Bad Batch, those still have the Lucas vibe.
The prequel had their problems, but they brought 1000 times more worldbuilding and wonder to the Star Wars universe than the sequels can even dream.

I like to reflect on the idea of going back in time to the 2000s, and telling my past self that in the future there will be a live action Star Wars show with a movie-level budget, starring Ewan McGregor as Obi Wan Kenobi, and another show starring Boba Fett. The cruel irony... certainly a monkey's paw scenario if there ever was one.

I’ll be interested to see how Bad Batch season 2 goes! Season 1 was good but I somehow still feel like it’s too early to tell how it’ll go. One thing Bad Batch has going for it is that we don’t know the fates of almost ANY of the characters (save side characters like Rex) so there’s a lot of potential there

The funny thing about Kenobi is in the original draft it was supposed to be about Obi-Wan protecting Luke not Leia which would have fit alot better having Obi-Wan trying to protect Luke while keeping the conflict a secret from him at the same time could have set up an interesting story that doesn't destroy Canon yes it still would have been the equivalent of a filler arc but instead what we got fit about as well as a toddler trying to force the square peg in round hole

Screw this series. Vader orders the entire ship to turn around for Obi-Wan, letting the rebels go, (instead of using a magnetic beam, or sending tie-fighters, or just keep firing...)... but ends up getting into his shuttle and flying after it himself , thus missing out on the rebels for no reason at all. Obi-Wan trusts Leia to some random rogue who has already seeded his transmitter...
The duel with Vader is miserable. They wave their swords like baseball bats in episode 9, and the Force has generally turned into an anime - they crush rocks and make craters in the ground, but they can’t break each other’s bones in the same way ... they can withstand the blows of multi-ton boulders ... Obi-Wan, without jokes, becomes a god thanks to the power of friendship and lifts weight much more than Yoda ... at some point he hits Vader with the HILT of the sword ... cuts his back, but that doesn’t paralyse him ... and most importantly, he doesn’t finish him off for the second time, although he himself said his friend is dead...
Vader does not call the cruiser to shoot down Obi-Wan's ship, but it turns out that he has a hyperdrive, which makes the whole last episode even more pointless, since he and Leia could fly to Alderaan on it all this time already at the end of episode 4 .. .
Owen and Beru do not set any traps for Reva in the doors, they only shoot her one at the time, do not catch up with her on a speeder, do not evacuate on the speeder, do not call the local police, the same Jabba the Hutt (with the promise of money), and Luke is advised to run on foot into the desert, to the Tuskens...
Apparently Vader just left Reva a ship…Reva with a hole in her HEART can easily fight, run and carry weights ... And finally, she, who cuts off the hands of all those who disagree, throws knives at people, kills everyone in her path, hunts the Jedi trying to kill them, tortures a 10-year-old child , suddenly cannot kill Luke, because he sees himself in him (but not in Leah) ... by the way, why? Does she know he's Vader's son? How?
And Obi-Wan forgives her, although he saw what she was doing and Tala died because of her...
Now the whole Empire knows that Bail Organa communicates with Obi-Wan, they are looking for him all over the galaxy, but at the same time Obi-Wan quietly flies to Alderaan to chat with Leia...
Obi-Wan communicates with Luke, although Owen told him in A New Hope that he died at the same time as his father ... Qui-gon, it turns out, can appear without any meditation, but the whole series did not do this ...
As a result - Obi-Wan, Owen, Beru, Bale failed their missions to protect children, and they are only alive because the Empire and Vader are even more incompetent, and Reva suddenly became kind ... and now we are waiting for a series about her ... Thank you Disney, now you've ruined every single character in the original trilogy. Star Wars is long dead, and there's no more room for nails in the coffin.
As I expected, Reva's motives make no sense. She saw that Vader killed her friends, therefore...she is angry at Obi-Wan who trained him for not saving her? (Why didn't he just say "I was on Utapau, attacked by clones"?) And therefore she serves Vader, hunts all remaining Jedi, tries to kill them, chops hands off and tortures a child to find the Rebels? She is a horrible person and I cheered when she was stabbed...but then she lived.

The climate around so much modern entertainment and Star Wars in particular has very much fallen into the trap of praise through low expectations.
When you have so much released that's bad or downright terrible, people will often overcorrect and praise something passably mediocre as brilliant. And then a month or two passes once the hype and conversation has died down and no one cares anymore, because so many of these projects are completely disposable. Designed to be watched once and then discarded in favour of the next big thing to keep people subscribed to a streaming service.

The only thing I'd say that differs from the video is that the prequels were cool because they had a lot of new, likeable characters (in spite of the not so likeable ones) and the story, for all the flaws in the films in terms of writing and pacing, is really nice. How a bad guy, doubling as a political figure, manages to manipulate and overthrow the current established order, while taking the protagonist and making him his pet, is a really cool story, at least in concept (I'd argue also in execution in a lot of ways). That's why i think, to a lot of fans (maybe the majority) the prequels aren't failed projects or unworthy of the franchise (only having value because of what came before).

A problem I also have with the Show „Is Obiwan pointless?“ as we have another Prequel to Anakin & Leia & Luke Even tho we know how the Skywalker Saga ends. So no matter how Good it would have been it leaves à bitter Taste for me as we know all of them die in the end Anyway. The Last Skywalker didnt Even got a Chance to confront Palpatine for what he has done to his Family. Well, George Lucas sold it to Disney, and it wasn´t cheap. He got 5 BILLION dollars for it. He had butchered the original trilogy with the so called "special editions" just to show off his new digital effects in the 90´s. He then made the awful prequels after closing a new, better deal with the toy companies. Carrie Fisher used to joke that she had to pay Lucas money every time she looked at the mirror. After all of that, he sold the company for Five. Billion. Dollars. to Disney. What did people expect them to do? So it´s funny to me to see people talk about Lucas as if he is some innocent victim here.

You realize that George Lucas started this whole mess in the first place when he sold Star Wars to Disney, right? I mean, Bob Iger didn’t force him to sell Lucasfilm, right? He made $4 billion in profit by allowing his franchise to be desecrated by a soulless media conglomerate.

Just got around to this one. Great video! As always, Nutsa is a breath of fresh air in this logic devoid environment.
Personally, I just recently had a conversation about Kenobi and I think you have expressed perfectly what my friend said with your description that the show was like a glass half full/half empty.
I think creative story telling has been largely lost in recent years in the film industry. I have found that I like Hollywood movies from around the 90s the most. I think movies after this point focused more on flashy technology than good and creative story telling.
I think this phenomenon of valuing technology over things that are more personable and human has traversed to many industries. For instance, I talked with a buddy of mine who just got married and he said that the wedding photographer had great lighting and colors for the photos, but he didn't position people in the photo to make the photo a good group composition that makes the people themselves just look good.
To sum up: Entertainment money machine goes brrrr 💵. Creativity stonks and real humans things stonks go down↘️
