Update to this "FIX", the only way to really fix this is to remove the batteries when you are done using them. The light board is flawed and slowly leaks energy from the batteries when off. The batteries will die in about 24-48 hours after installation. Intermountain said that they will look for a different method of powering the lights in future designs, most likely from track power.

Thanks Bob, I am getting new batteries too. I think your fix makes sense and perhaps they will add the tip about the battery tab in their instructions. Thank you for the video. I am thinking making a few holes in the floor of the upper dome could allow some light into the full dome.. have to see.

I am definitely happier that I figured out why these lights were DOA, bad batteries and a loose connection caused my issue as well as a lot of other people.

Mine arrived DOA today, Looks like I will be ordering some new batteries.
Mine didn't come with any instructions what so ever so I contacted N Scale Enthusiast, which is who I ordered my Super Dome from, and he sent me a link to this video.
    Thanks for the help!

I found the energizer 312 size will work also. I purchased two of them, and neither one of the lights worked

On a side note, I have the full 7 car set plus two other cars I just got, every single car had dead batteries. I found a 10 pack of batteries on Amazon for a good price vs a local store, I need to get some more now.

I wonder if Micro Trains would have the same problem, being American made....

So far, the MTL lighted box cars are still working, I think they have a larger battery as well since it is heavier.

You are being real Generous with your scoring. We shouldn't have to rebuild our new items. They should never left the dealership or manufacturer with inspection.

IM sent me replacement batteries, I am rating the finished and corrected product. The batteries can die at any time and for whatever reason. Manufacturing, transport, just sitting on a shelf or just left turned on. A lot of reasons why it isn't a 5 though.

Thanks for the video. I just picked up a superdome car in the Amtrak Autumn Foliage scheme. Mine had batteries installed and additional batteries that looked like they were tossed in the box. After seeing your video, I didn't even try the installed batteries. I swapped them out with the other included ones and the lights work fine. However, one of the end diaphragms broke. Do you know where to get a replacement? Thanks.

The diaphragm's are pretty fragile the way they are made. I haven't run into that problem just yet. The only place you could try is with Intermountain themselves for a replacement piece. www.intermountain-railway.com/customerservice/customerservice.html
