    There are so many idiots with dogs out there!!
    My stepdad found an abandoned, almost dead, dog out near Speedway one evening. He picked her up and took her to the vet as she had a broken tail and other injuries. However, because she looked like she had some pitbull in her the vet said that his recommendation was to put her down as the pound and animal shelters wouldn't take her. He thought she had probably been bred for fighting but she just didn't have the temperament. My stepdad and Mum kept her. She was gorgeous and hugged my stepdad every day (she'd jump into his lap and put her front paws around his neck). She put up with kids pulling on her ears, trying to stuff grape leaves in her teeth, and many other things that we didn't catch in time to stop.

    In regards to so many comments here downplaying the responsibility of having a large dog or pitbull: We literally bred pitbulls to be dangerous, it’s not their fault but if you own a pitbull or really, any large dog for that matter you need to be realistic about their strength, training and that they very easily could seriously harm someone. Dog owners need to get over yourselves and realize they can be both your sweet baby and a possible danger to others - train your dogs and be responsible pls.

    • @khaleesireyna731
      @khaleesireyna731 4 дня назад +6

      I think, in general, most people who own/train big dogs realize that they have to work on additional training because of their size (ie teaching them not to jump around on people because they can knock a person over without meaning to, teaching them to play gently/not nip because their nipping can be a lot more hazardous without them meaning to, etc). Big dogs of any breed take extra work because of their size. Most dog owners understand that. I think there's a lot more generalization/lazier attitudes toward small dogs because people think "oh, they're small, they can't hurt you" which is never the right mindset to have. Any dog of any size can be a hazard if untrained. So far from what I've seen in the comments, it's mostly just fellow pittie owners talking about how sweet their dogs are because pitties in particular get a bad rep, even if it's unfair. For example, the statistics around fatal/non-fatal dog bites from 2000-2020, there were about 1,000 lethal dog attacks. Of those lethal attacks, pit bulls made up about 670 of them (about 67%). Sounds high right? Here's the thing. Pit bulls in these statistics equate about 7 different breeds of dogs, including American Red Nosed Pitties, Staforshire Pit Terriers, American Bulldogs, American Pit Terriers, and mixed breed pitties.
      So the stats are already skewed because it's actually about 7 different breeds that make up that 67%. It'd be like if all dogs with floppy ears were considered one breed and were counted in those stats. Untrained pitties can be just as dangerous as any untrained large breed dog, yet it's the pitties that get the bulk of the stigma. Everyone here isn't negating the danger of untrained large dogs. We're just trying to do what the Girl With Dogs is doing: break the stigma around what is generally a wonderful dog breed.

At first my heard shrunk but when he came closer I saw he is just lost and wanted to find his home. A car almost hit him so I catched him and took him to a safer place. He was really strong so it has hard to hold him but he was also very very sweet. I succeed to find his owner, we found out that the doggo escaped from the garden so I brought him back. They do not show signs that they are going to attack, that is a breed trait. They do not let go once they've latched on, also another breed trait (it's called gameness). Bully breeds were bred for one job: to excel at killing anything in a fighting pit. Ignoring those breed traits and calling them "family dogs" knowing that they were bred for bloodsport only leads to suffering.

      Probably 3 years now, but I found someone getting rid of their pit because they didn’t have time for her I guess, so they drove her up from Tucson to phoenix for $20 which I thought was strange. My ex and I took her in, the owner said she chews up everything and they had to muzzle her, which I instantly figured out by the missing patch of hair on her nose. She said she wanted to receive updates on daisy, and that was the last we ever heard from her. My parents were not thrilled about me bringing her with to their house when I would go visit because they have 2 bostons of their own and because the “reputation” of the breed. Anyway I kept bringing her over and my dad was not liking it, but my mom eventually fell in love. She sleeps on my moms side of the bed in a temperpedic dog bed she got her. after about a year my pops gave in and what turned him was one day he was getting home from work one day and she followed him into the bedroom and as he was taking off his belt she dipped her head and yipped which I believe to be an obvious sign she had been abused. after that day my pops gave in. Daisy is now 6 and my parents love her more than they love me, she has chewed up 1 work boot, 1 sandal , 1 roller blade.
      There was 1 incident where I was a little worried that she was gunna have to go and that was after she got her bordella and rabies shot. She was very protective of her food, really on edge and just sorta acted like she had rabies. Bella the little Boston was eating and daisy shot across the room and bit Bella right on the head puncturing her nose, there was blood everywhere. My dad was irate, my mom was crying because she knew daisy was out of character and that was not her. So I talked to some friends who said they would take her but my mom was not gunna let her go. They took Bella to the vet, no serious injuries just a scratch on the inside of her nose that bled like crazy for a couple hours. I started looking into the rabies shot and never again will I give my animals that disgusting, cruel shot. I found some holistic medicine that was supposedly effective in removing the toxins and after a couple days daisy was back to her normal self. After about a week everything went back to normal.
      She is still with us, living her best life.

      I have a Black Mouth Cur/Boxer mix (possibly pittie mix, definitely got some Bully breed in her). Her name's Bella. When I first got her, she was prone to separation anxiety that would show itself as hyperactivity. So, she could be jumping around, barking, barreling around people, nipping at loose clothing, and it all just looked very scary. After a couple weeks of stay with me, she calmed down quite a bit. No more food aggression, no nipping at loose clothing, she doesn't jump around and bowl into people. She's had her rough spots, but she's also won people over with how sweet she is. My little cousin is afraid/nervous around dogs he doesn't know (he has a bad experience being bitten by a dog when he was 3), so he was a bit nervous meeting Bella. The moment I let her out of her crate, as if she knew that she needed to approach this meeting just right, she walked over to my cousin (didn't jump once), laid down flat on her back, and had her big, goofy grin on her face. She won my cousin over in about 10 seconds. He adores her and he regularly vouches for her being a sweetie.
      I know some people see her as scary, but we're working hard to help her put her best paw forward and show everyone how big a heart she has. Pitbulls and bully breeds get a bad reputation and it's not fair for so many reasons. But I can't change everyone's mind, but I can show them Bella and how sweet she is.

      There is valid reasons to crop some dogs ears/dock tails. Usually it’s to prevent injury in dogs who are properly defensively trained, as floppy ears and long tails can be used as leverage and grabbed by the aggressor. Extremely excitable dogs can also cause serious damage to their tails by hitting them on various objects. Allegedly cropping the ears can help with ear infections as well, however there’s negative connotations to the procedures if performed incorrectly. All in all I personally wouldn’t deem someone a good owner merely for not cropping the ears.

    I use a wheelchair, and the dogs that are the nicest to me tend to be big dogs that other people might find scary: German Shepherds, Rottweilers, etc. They seem to understand that something is different about me and/or my legs and they get protective of me. I distinctly remember wheeling around my local dog park (it was wonderful exercise and I got to make four-legged friends on my breaks!) pre-pandemic, where a pair of rottweilers decided I was their new best friend. They walked alongside me as I wheeled around the entire walking trail. When dogs who didn't like/didn't understand wheelchairs would bark at me, they would bark back and get between me and the other dogs. My sister's German Shepherd mix, Louis, notices when my sister's other doggies ( a lab mix, Dana and what we think is a pit bull mix, Rosie) start playing too rough and jumping on me. Sometimes I get on the floor to play, sitting with my legs straight out in front of me. if they're being too rough, Louis will stand over my legs, blocking them from jumping on me. No growling, no barking. Just firmly standing his ground. He's so gentle and sweet!

      @khaleesireyna731 13 часов назад +1

      @ReplyGuy22345 they may have been bred for that in the past (just as huskies were bred to pull sleds. Does that mean huskies are going to know how to pull every sled-shaped object automatically?) One way that often can show itself is the pittie not being the most friendly to other dogs (not always outright aggressive, mind you, just wary of other dogs), which can also be corrected by socialization. I have a Black Mouth Cur mix that possibly has some bully breed in her, (possibly Boxer). She's the sweetest with pretty much anyone she meets and is especially gentle with children and puppies. She also lives with my smaller dog, and they get along fantastically (and the smaller dog is the real leader between the two of them, honestly).
      If you really want to get into the whole "they were bred for fighting" thing, I'll point out the fact that a dog that was overly aggressive toward people, even in that time, would've been culled (euthanized), because a dog that was overly aggressive to people was still considered a liability even back then. Not only that, but they've also been bred for guarding lifestock and have been used as working dogs. No one ever mentions that when we get into what they were bred for. And given that dog fighting has been illegal and considered animal cruelty for at least the last eight decades or so (if not more), which is generations of pitties, you just might have to also take THAT factor into consideration with their temperament in modern times.
      As I said before, I've met numerous bully-breed dogs, and they've been a delight: sweetest dogs and just super chill. Meanwhile, I can also list a bunch of Chihuahuas I've met that have been territorial little hellions, but no one is using THAT as an excuse to stigmatize and call for the euthanization of the entire breed (and for the record, any responsible dog owner will tell you that an untrained/under-trained dog of ANY size can be dangerous). I supervise my Black Mouth Cur dog when she's interacting with new people to make sure she behaves and I do the same with my little dog. Because both dogs could get overexcited and hurt someone without meaning to. Training is just as important for how a dog will behave as their breed temperament is.
      There are so many different factors that go into a dog and their behavior, breed being one of those factors, that you really can't base your entire assumption on a dog based on breed alone. Given that you're making this kind of comment, tho, I doubt you'd listen.

    I was walking down the sidewalk one time when I encountered a man working on a little sign outside his shop. He had his pitbull with him - a solid brick house of a dog. When I got close, the pittie started wagging her tail and getting excited. If only I'd paid a little more attention.
    The owner even warned me, too. He noticed me coming, noticed his dog's reaction. He told me, "Careful, she's a kisser".
    But too little, too late. By the time I'd registered the statement, the pittie had bounced up and licked my face. Truly traumatizing.

Very rarely do I see people aggressive bully breeds, and when they have attacked children they've almost always shown animal aggression/prey drive before as a problem behavior. I know anecdotal evidence is only anecdotal, but the kindest, most gentle dog our family ever had was a yellow pit bull. We got him from a shelter, he was on the euthanasia short list and they weren't even going to list him as adoptable but my mother convinced them to let us have him. He was only a year old or so at the time and was all cut up from unknown origins. My baby sister was only 2 yrs old at the time and he became the most loving, loyal, and patient dog to her. She would jump on him, pull his ears, and drag him around by his collar and he would take it like a gentle champ....never once did he exhibit aggressiveness or defensiveness. He was a friend to all, never harmed another dog, person, or random animal, and he lived with us for 11 years before his time came. Best dog in the world really, and I say that now having my very own dog whom I love with all my heart. I think Pit bulls are dangerous in the sense that they are large, with a very strong bite force. I'm not trying to make any broad statements about dog breeds, but Havoc was a once in a lifetime animal companion and it does hurt to see people demonize pitties outright. As a dog owner YOU are responsible for gauging your pet's temperament, managing their training, and if all else fails....keeping them safely separated from anything they might potentially harm.

One wrong move and that pit could have killed him if it was close enough to bite somewhere vital. Whereas, you could easily brush off a chihuahua, which I'm told statistically bites more. But my anecdote is going to be brushed aside by people with anecdotes about a pit wanting belly rubs. I've come across countless stories of pits with good owners suddenly snapping at people that typically ended with the owner, in a state of shock, saying 'They've never acted like that before'.

But if the same thing happens with dog owners, no, it's the breed's fault, they're just dangerous, vicious animals, aren't they... 🙄Statistically, far fewer large breeds attack people than small breeds. Also statistically, large breeds will cause more injury. You don't get to decide when people can and can't be happy because you don't like something. The only dog I have been afraid of was my neighbor's Chihuahua. Vicious little bugger. My other neighbor's Pitbull, my neice's Pitbull, my other niece's Pitbull, and every single Pitbull ( many) I have met on walks have been gentle, loving dogs, even formerly abused ones. I'm a small woman. I would trust a Pitbull with my life.

    Had my two dogs at this dog park, and a couple came in with their very young daughter and their Pitt. That dog was so attentive to that little girl. Some of the larger dogs were rough-housing near her, and he just calmly but firmly placed himself between her and the dogs, and nudged them away with his chest. No aggression, just a calm "no, move away."

      Haha we had a pit (very friendly to us) get a bit to excited when playing with ours at an off leash park and latch onto the ruff of my dog. Sine ours was a great pyr, he didn’t feel anything but we got him off regardless with some beef liver treats. The funny part was the owners reaction. They were very apologetic and explained that they were new dog owners and that they had training booked in the coming days and said to us “I’m so sorry he did that, we’re going to put him in time out for a few minutes” and then before we could explain that that wouldn’t work they walked a few metres over in the field and made their Pitt sit and then they just stayed there for like five minutes. Given that they were going to training we kinda just kept going on our way but it was so awkward to watch haha. Pitts are wonderful dogs, they just need guidance. That goes for all dogs though…
