I think, given they won't change the height of the thing to make it fit a medium pad, if they can add two class 2 hardpoints this becomes a miner. There's a gap though for medium pad traders. We have types 6, 7 and 9....

For a ship that is 25% larger than the Python in volume, keep in mind that you only get a 5% increase in cargo, and that the Python has gargantuan core internals.

One bonus to the cheaper Type 7 is the NPCs spawned in will be a lot lighter than if you were in a Python, for example.

The Type-7 makes for a surprisingly good explorer. It's very maneuverable in supercruise and has more than enough internal slots to carry everything you'll need for a trip to the fringes of the galaxy. Moreover, with engineering it's capable of reaching a 55 lightyear jump range, which is definitely nothing to scoff at.

  • @alien_marksman
    @alien_marksman 4 года назад +21

My T-7 (Archibald Haddock) was used to smuggle weapons during the Lugh Liberation Conflict. A job it some how did surprisingly good at. Presumably because the blockade didn't think a T-7 would be seriously used to smuggle weapons.
Afterwards the Archibald Haddock was reconfigured for Surface and/or Orbital Salvage and Recovery. With a bit of engineering a Jump range of a fraction over 45ly with shields, and an SRV bay is achieveable. It might just be the ship best suited for spending hours/days planet side ferreting around.
Putting the largest 'A-Rated' Power Plant in helps with heat management. Don't get me wrong, it still warms up during the charge phase of the FSD, but it's no longer a Flying Oven.

When you switch over to the Type-9 Heavy for a few days the 7 feels like like a toy.
Put the largest rack in every slot and you've got nearly 800 units of cargo space. You might want to leave room for a docking computer, but it will still scrape the paint nearly every time it goes through a slot. Better to learn how to do it yourself and let the computer take over AFTER your in the bay so you can spend the time plotting the return trip before the ship's even touched down.
If your worried about combat.. don't be. Smart pirates are more interested in cargo than carnage and the irony of hauling close to double what any other ship could possibly hold is that even if you dumped 100 units you'd only be slicing about one seventh off your profit margin. You've got more coin then they have pocket, and with a bit of shrewd Tyrion Lanister style negotiating you might be able to convert a fellow commander from would be pirate into a temporary escort.

And I went to Colonia, fully loaded obviously, without any neutron highways or faraway bases to ease the trip which took me 1 month at least. Great review. I’m impressed you found a use for the Type 7. I’ve never owned one in my relatively short time in the game and this review lists a lot of reasons why that’s the case.
But yeah I like that you had a heart for an unloved ship. It was a cool way to do a negative review.

This is one of my favorite videos, mostly due to the longer intro music, and the radio static in the background.
I don’t fly my T-7 anymore, because my other ships are far superior. “Ambergris” I called her; not particularly pretty, but definitely valuable. Delivering food cartridges and algae to military bases, and then returning with a hold full of bio waste was easy money. Also, hopping back and forth in the same system is a great way to avoid interdiction.

Really needs a buff on the internals to be as efficient as a trader as it's size lets you think (like 1 or 2 class 7 instead of the class 6). Used mine as a rescuer vessel like you said, a while back, and that is trully a role where it shines. I loved that ship. Can't think of a better one for the job actually (except the Python of course, but the Python is pretty much good at everything).

My first month in elite was spent buying the ship with the most cargo space, save up, trade in on new ship with most Cargo space. In the 7, it was bulk econo passenger and one painite session of mining and I was on to the type 9.

You mentioned the Diamond Back scout. The most super sneaky super cold running ship in the game. It was the ship I used during "the Gnosis event" and had no issues with Hydras as they couldn't see me at all. I call mine Sithis after the the cold dark empty void of space it blends so well into. Hacking, spying, sneaking, smuggling are what the little scout does so well. Just make sure you never use a shield though....or weapons as you won't need them. However it used to be the meta ship for cold running combat back in the day. Anyway look forward to whenever you do review the DBS. Keep up the great work and subbed.

I really like the type 7 :( I don't play for long enough to tell you what ship is better than what, or at what... but I like the way it looks, and I am always happy to see it over the horizon when I tumble down the hill with my SRV. So if you ever see me flying in my Type-7, give me a wave and a honk, maybe some protection because I may need it!

My Type-7 is named Beagle 3, after HMS Beagle and the British Mars Lander, Beagle 2.
If I get tired of all the politics surrounding the bubble, I fully intend to fly it all the way out to Colonia and help them expand further out there. With a bit of engineering the jump range is fairly respectable. It's not a good ship, but as a trader it's not a bad ship either. And I enjoy flying it. There's something therapeutic about drifting a giant fully laden space brick towards a space station with flight assist off, and setting it down smoothly even if it requires some wrestling on the controls

I ran it without a shield or guns, just 310 tons of pure cargo. High stress, every bandit wants a piece with a hold full of gold, but it's maneuverable enough to avoid interdictions. Closest I've come to crashing in it is when I forgot to slow down at a planetary outpost (large pads!), hit the ground hard but still limped to the pad with 15% integrity.
It was about 6 million in profit per run, and a run took about 15 minutes, so only a couple hours in I've got Python money.

I've made tons of money on this ship, it does the job and it's cheap to lose, if you run into hostiles you can't handle. Well, you can't really handle any hostiles, but never mind the small details. 19 times out of 20, you can run away, and 19 times is enough to earn more than you paid for this ship, so it can't be bad.

My T-7, The Snowman, runs cool and slick. I realised that the secret to the heat management was to decide what you need to run and pick a plant of the right size. I run her unarmed so I only need a 3A plant. My only complaint is the lack of paint jobs. I wanted something frosty themed but no luck. Have to make do with the bobblehead (called Fred) in cockpit. Now all I need is a wingman in a FDL or Mamba with a black paint job to run interference.
