Good stuff and great race! As an owner of both a Plaid and ICE cars (love them all), it truly is remarkable what type of power is needed to take down a plaid. The power delivery is pretty crazy for a heavy beast. I honestly thought the ultima was going to beat it considering it’s putting down over 700 whp and has a significant power to weight ratio advantage. Yes you can blame the tranny but that’s what the dude brought so it is what it is. Keep them coming!!! Would love to see the 720s go against the ugr huracan! That would be awesome.
@@wolfgangbarrio5043 yes sir. Gated, capristo headers, capristo test pipes, capristo race exhaust, ecu tune….talk about an f1 scream. It would get killed in a race by many cars but the driving experience and scream at 8500 rpm is pure bliss. The old videos you see are with just the exhaust. Night and day difference with the current set up. That car goes against everything an ev stands for 😂 but I love them both!
As much as I think having a DCT or sequential trans would have helped, I still think the plaid probably would have pulled on it at speeds above 130mph regardless…at least until 164mph. The aggressive aero on the Ultima is surely adding a lot of drag at high speeds where as the Plaid has an ultra low Cd and a lot more power giving it a much better power to drag ratio despite having a worse power to weight ratio
The Ultima RS could do 0-60 mph in 2.3 seconds and 0-100 mph in 4.8 seconds and Quarter mile time in 9.2 seconds at 156 mph and top speed over 250 mph why didn't it beat the Tesla plaid or just tie it? Was the Ultima RS having a issue because it weighs under 3,000 lbs and has 1200hp it says online so I'm just curious on what happened there because it seems like it could do the same Quarter times as the Tesla plaid so what happened
I'm pretty sure those numbers are on a drag strip because the 1200whp RWD version would simply not grip fast enough to do a 2.3 sec 0-60, plus this one was the 750whp version and it had a manual which as fun as it may be, makes it slower to shift.
@@kristijandimovski410 they probably were on a dragstrip I'm saying it would of beaten the Tesla plaid if it had the 1200whp which I thought it did but it didn't
The Plaid is fast, no doubt. But I really wonder whether there are actually car guys that would prefer the Plaid over the Ultima RS if they had the choice. This is a serious question and I am not trying to start a discussion about pros and cons.
If I had free electricity and a guarantee that it would never go out, I wouldn't mind having the Plaid, I live 5 miles from a Dragway. But any other circumstance, I want that Ultima RS. It looks and sounds sublime. The only place the Tesla is going to turn heads is at a drag strip, virtually everywhere else and in every other performance category, the Ultima is in a completely different class. On a road course, the Ultima is going to run rings around it.
They certainly have. In the mid 90's I worked as a mechanic at Ford in Australia and we had one at the emissions lab because it was being imported form the UK and it had to get certified for emissions. That car had a real kit car look and feel about it but this looks like a legit supercar.
That ultima would have eaten that plaid for breakfast if it was a DCT, you could see that right before he’d shift he reeled the plaid in mindbogglingly fast. Still a great race nonetheless
Did we see the same video? I think the big wing has something to do with it; no inertia and high losses to wind resistance...like a whiffle ball. But the plaid was relentless, like a boa constrictor. Every time the Ultima came up for air it lost more without gaining.
@@markharmon4963 I'm not convinced that you know how fast a DCT shifts. It came up for air and lost it, every shift. Sure, the wing may have had something to do with it but its downfall was not having a DCT. The wing would not have made a difference then. Rewatch the video, I'm right.
@@desiredfilm1071 I did not know what a DCT was before this conversation. I could see how it would effect the drag time of a car. I do not see the RS gaining except for brief moments on the Plaid. Maybe the RS has a higher top end. But every time it redlined it lost a little more. I am trying to learn so please show me a time stamp after 6:05 on the second race that shows me what I am missing.
Awesome. The Ultima is infinitely cooler than that Plaid. It looks like it has the power to keep the race even it may even win by a small margin. Unfortunately, those shifts really hurt it.
I used to say the same thing tbh. It’s the most amazing car I’ve ever driven and the tech is sick. I’ve owned a Hennessy Viper, Callaway C6 Vette with 800hp, 2 911 Turbos, 2 M5s, AMG 63s, etc. Own a plaid and couldn’t be happier with it.
What's the top speed of the Ultima anyway? It should theoretically be able to pull past 160mph, where the Tesla is speed limited. On a race course, the Tesla would be left for dead, of course. The Ultima isn't a drag car, it's a track weapon. Hard to argue with 1020hp EV in a straight line though.
@@PureBlood777 Yeah, it does. It's theoretically capable of close to 200mph but Tesla has stated that won't be released until a further software update (If at all). My guess is that they won't allow it on the Plaid until the braking system is beefed up - possibly as a factory option.
@@markharmon4963 The fastest anyone's been able to get one to go is around 167mph. That's because the update hasn't been released yet. This was actually during the official Tesla Nurburgring run. Maybe someone can hack the software, but your typical owner won't do that, right?
@@WestCoastSupercarsandClassics I do not know how fast the Plaid has been driven. As you mentioned to Pureblood, it is software limited, and Tesla requires at least wheel and tire upgrades before they will release it. Which makes sense. Why sell a car with 200 mph rated tires for customers that rarely exceed 85.
So much to talk about! LOVE the look of the Ultima. Looks just about the same as its first build 35 years ago in England, but with a 4 cyl. Motor at the time. Now it weights 2500 lbs. with a modified LS Chevy motor with 750HP....against a 4800+ lb. Plaid with 1020 HP...On paper the power to weight ratio strongly favors the KIT CAR. And in all honesty the KIT CAR did well against the Plaid! But on the Tesla Plaid Channel we see a 2700 lb. nitrous 400 inch Small block Chevy II BEAT A PLAID by .3 of a second in an 1/8 mile, and believe that the nitrous Chevy was pulling over 1100HP!... So exactly WHAT did this race accomplish as the KIT CAR has a base price of $120,000 PLUS THE COST OF A 750HP CHEVY MOTOR?....But you made me LOOK at your video, and I did enjoy it....Now how about having the Plaid race something else that we haven't seen before...I refer you to Dragtimes channel where the Plaid beats every exotic Brooks owns and he admits the Plaid is faster that even the Ferrari SF90!
Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for watching! These Plaids are very fast as we all know. I have 3 races with a Plaid on the channel. A Built TTRS, a tuned 720s, and this one. Hopefully more to come 😇
Maybe something more like 1400 and a tire. I’m referencing Ken Blocks Hoonicorn that “barely” beat it. I think that’s the benchmark for what you need in an ICE car to give this car a real run. That or just a tuned 720s lmao. Something really light weight but with loads of power
@@AlmightyBeezy Becaudse we all know that 1400HP Hoonicorn is just a a regular 4 wheel drive production car that you can take on a trip cross country and how many does it seat?
I don't think it's a fair matchup. You've got a car made for the track with the wing being practically useless in this circumstance versus a car famous for its straight-line acceleration. The situation would be different on a track for sure
It’s amazing what you really need to beat these Plaids 😂 , just to think how much power Tesla is holding back in the Plaid that can make 200+ mph car with just a software update ( I still love my ICE cars though)
That roadster is gonna be crazy I bet..plus Elon said high 8 second quarter-mile times are gonna be just from a base model..think about that lol performance roadsters will be mid to low 8 second cars
If they unlocked the Plaids limiter, it is over 1100HP and capable of over 200MPH....Insiders said the Plaid plus was capable of over 250MPF and a Rimac tied 8.5 quarter mile....Elon for President! But unfortunately he was not born in South Africa so he can't run!
@@naturalgainzzz7005 …. He said that in 2017. Now 4 years later, there are electric hyper cars like the Remac doing mid 8s. I have a feeling a base Roadster will be faster than mid 8s. Finger’s crossed planet earth is still here by the time Roadsters are out.
@@ajbucks honestly the rimac is making damn near 2000hp tho I don't think the Teslas will ever take it that far so I can't see them dipping into the high 7s but the fact there hitting Low 9s with the Plaid shows that 8.4-8.8 is deff highly probable..Rimac also cost a fortune so if Tesla made a car that fast it be deff 250k or up for sure which will actually be a bargain lol

@@yg78t76t7 looked it up online, they make up to a 1,200hp version, pretty sure that would walk the plaid but yea manuals are very outclassed by a car that has instant torque and power….and no need to shift lol

An Ultima racing in the streets? YES PLEASE.
😇
That ultima any day over the robot sofa
That Ultima did better than I though it would. Imagine if it was one of the twin turbo ones
it lost because it has a 6 speed manual, takes too much time and doesn't shift fast enough. if it has a DCT or any kind of really fast automatic transmission it would have done way better

thank you for showing the engine and the inside of the ultima rs
For sure bro!
work of art!
That ultima RS had enough power to take that toaster but the manual transmission is like brining a knife to a gun fight 🤷🏻♂️
The piping on the Ultima is just beautiful work.
awesome to see the ultima being driven hard, always loved that car since forza
Yea it is quite a spectacular car!
Bro you are killing it with your content!!!! Love the channel!!
Thank you Curtis! I'm really glad you love the channel! That means alot!
That was an insane matchup! it had less hp but superior power to weight, just that damn manual made it loose aa split sec on each shift...with a dct it may have held even...both cars were off the charts in looks and performance
The Tesla looks like a mid 2000s Kia though lol
Yeah it wasn't the RS 1200 hp version.
That was awesome. Cool seeing such different cars race each other and match up so closely.
Glad you liked the video! The ugr lambo on 93 would be a great race with that 720s for sure.

That car goes against everything an ev stands for 😂 but I love them both!
if that Ultima would be automatic the Tesla would be toast. That engine sound is car porn.
Weight can often help a vehicle achieve faster speeds due to traction gained. There’s a lot of math and physics that go in to it.
@@theoriginaljohngalt2450 can u explain in full detail please 😂😂
@@Motorsports_3 I see you can’t understand that. Just because something weighs a lot doesn’t mean it can’t be fast.
The Ultima won for me as soon as it started the engine! Against a soulless electric device, enough said.
Every time I see one of these races, I'm blown away by how freaking fast the Tesla is.
Damn that Ultima is screaming!
Ok ok nice runs ! Ultima held it down for the 6speed warriors ! Let’s see a rematch on the track! See if the plaid can keep up then!
It would be off on the first bend..or them rims would snap in half 😵💫
Shit. The Plaid wouldn’t be able to use its brakes past the first two corners and it’d be in a wall.
That is insane...I would die to drive that on a large track like the Glen. Dear god man...how cool was that to film!?
Just being next to it was exciting!!! Super grateful for getting this film
Sick! 🔥🔥
Glad you liked the video! 😇
Can't believe you were able to get one of these kit cars to the "track"!!! Sick Auto Glory!!! 🤟🙌🙌
Glad you liked it bro. It truly is a spectacular car! Thanks for watching 😇
This one had 750 to the wheels. Not their 1200 hp version.
I'm pretty sure those numbers are on a drag strip because the 1200whp RWD version would simply not grip fast enough to do a 2.3 sec 0-60, plus this one was the 750whp version and it had a manual which as fun as it may be, makes it slower to shift.
@@kristijandimovski410 yeah it was for 1200whp version that's what I thought thiss 1 was
@@kristijandimovski410 they probably were on a dragstrip I'm saying it would of beaten the Tesla plaid if it had the 1200whp which I thought it did but it didn't
Whoa I’d seen an Ultima driving through Chicago while I was visiting, such a rare sight and sound amazing!
One of the few kit cars that is actually awesome looking
Great vid. U can see the Ultima falls behind a little with every shift.
Would have been nice to see the 1,200 hp Ultima. Still, not complaining
The 1200hp would gap the plaid in a 50mph roll on
Man these ultimas have come a long way since I drove one back in 2003
They certainly have. In the mid 90's I worked as a mechanic at Ford in Australia and we had one at the emissions lab because it was being imported form the UK and it had to get certified for emissions. That car had a real kit car look and feel about it but this looks like a legit supercar.
💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼 Very cool. Need traction!!
Mikey Thompsons!
One badass car dude, plus MANual.
Wow what a cool car. I'm from the UK and didn't even know about them. Props to the owner
I knew it was over as soon as i heard it was a manual. The shift pauses were just too much of a handicap
I don’t think anyone would expect a deep grumble from a small car like this. Awesome races!
It was a great race.
Alas not the 1200 hp version of the RS...
Way better than 1320 racing lol seriously
Awesome. The Ultima is infinitely cooler than that Plaid. It looks like it has the power to keep the race even it may even win by a small margin. Unfortunately, those shifts really hurt it.
Truth, the Plaid is the uncoolest performance car ever made lol. That Ultima is badass
If the guy driving the Ultima knew how to quick shift, then the race would have been his. 🤷🏼💂♂️🇬🇧🎄
The fact that the Ultima was even able to keep up with the Plaid shows how much of a sleeper that Ultima really is
An ultima a sleeper? Really? If those two cars drove by, I definitely wouldn't have even noticed the Tesla. That Ultima is a Man's car!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SO LETS SEE HOW IT GOES
😇
Hate when you see someone in a manual not know how to shift
What's the top speed of the Ultima anyway? It should theoretically be able to pull past 160mph, where the Tesla is speed limited.
On a race course, the Tesla would be left for dead, of course. The Ultima isn't a drag car, it's a track weapon. Hard to argue with 1020hp EV in a straight line though.
The Tesla plaid does not have a governer
@@PureBlood777 Yeah, it does. It's theoretically capable of close to 200mph but Tesla has stated that won't be released until a further software update (If at all).
My guess is that they won't allow it on the Plaid until the braking system is beefed up - possibly as a factory option.
But it kept going and going and going....
Imagine buying this car to race on a straight line

One car has a soul and character and the other car doesn’t . The plaid is fast but it doesn’t look good and has no character. Meh
i knew it was over once i heard "Manuel transmission"
I don't think it's a fair matchup. You've got a car made for the track with the wing being practically useless in this circumstance versus a car famous for its straight-line acceleration. The situation would be different on a track for sure
10/10 best pov of any car period
It’s amazing what you really need to beat these Plaids 😂 , just to think how much power Tesla is holding back in the Plaid that can make 200+ mph car with just a software update ( I still love my ICE cars though)
That roadster is gonna be crazy I bet..plus Elon said high 8 second quarter-mile times are gonna be just from a base model..think about that lol performance roadsters will be mid to low 8 second cars
Thats what you get when you put over 1000hp in a sedan i guess.
