- Please watch till the end! There's a message about what we're doing with this channel I want you to see.... Here's Another project with the 74 Camaro... I had a great comment from a guy that begged me not to cut it up if it was a true Z28. It's not... so I'm-a-choppin! paintucation.cinevee.com/ has all kinds of videos if you want to DIY your own paint and body projects, and this Camaro will probably feed some new streaming videos. Thanks for watching!!! Lotsa great stuff coming !!!

Thanks for the comments!!! I'm making a game plan and it's formulating!!!! Gonna hit this car hard this week.
Kevin is gonna hit that Camero so hard, it's gonna reverse Christine itself. 😅
And if anyone gets that, we can be friends.
Hello do you have an email address I would like to talk with you I'm currently a technical trainer with Toyota in Elkhart Indiana. And I am also working on new techniques in training maybe help each other with resources Thank you!
Hi Kevin. I take it, that I wasn't alone thinking, that while removing the hood,it fell in the direction of the windshield and looked like that broke the windshield? I did look it,I watched it again, but forgot to look for cracking before hood removing.
Need a left hand man??
Kevin. This is the same year car my best friend had in high school, so,the 74 is near and dear to me.Would you be willing to sell the 74 to me? Please
That Nissan needs a 2JZ,and make it a no prep, back side drag car,or,drag and drive car
I love when the guys I grew up watching are so relatable. Leaking air fittings, losing train of thought mid sentence, and the moments when we are reminded how old we are getting.
yup.... short term memory loss is my super-power! LOL! Thanks for watching!
"Since I don't want to snort this rust (no longer the '80s)" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
That comment took me out!! 🤣🤣🤣
I wondered if anyone would pick up on that..... 🤣
@@paintucation That made me think about an old cb buddy of mine his handle was Wild Bill anyhow he was an ex paint and body man and all them years of doing paint and body work without using PPE had destroyed his health to the point he needed a full time nurse so I love seeing you guys religously using it because I've seen what happens when you don't wear PPE
Same 😂
@@georgethompson4736 We all need to use PPE. There is no excuse not to use it.
Kevin has always given us a reason not to feel shame for wanting to be safe lol
This is like watching an episode of This Old House; Kevin is the Bob Villa of automotive repair.
I'll take that!!! I loved Bob Villa!
I have been teaching automotive restoration at a technical college for 35 years and always enjoy watching you. I always pick up a tip or two. Don’t stop what you’re doing, teaching the masses. Thanks for sharing your wisdom.
Thank you sir! I applaud what you're doing as well... This comment made my day!
kevin when you painted “Copper Head” on trucks that showed me you know exactly what your doing!👍🏿😂
Man, that was a minute ago!!! Copperhead was a fun project! I had no idea where that would take me.... I just knew I needed to give it my best effort
I grew up in a '74... Dad rescued it from a field. Paid first and got it to run in 15 minutes. The old farmer was PISSED. Loved that car. It got my colicky baby behind to sleep many a night.
Don’t sweat it man, people who do their own restorations know how long a project takes to do it right. And life always interrupts you and takes out your knees (like a certain ice skater back in the day). Keep up the great attitude!
10-4!!
Or an adventurer in Skyrim.😅
My first car was a burgundy 74 Camaro with a white vinyl top. I paid $700 for it. You could hear the rust crunching under the vinyl top when you pressed on it. I used to lose full quarts of oil out of the giant rust holes in the trunk. As a 16 yr old kid with no money or expertise, I couldn't fix it correctly. Now, at 59, I've built my dream garage in the back yard. You're Paintucation DVDs (the mullet series) have been invaluable. Keep up the good work!
Thanks man! Very much appreciated!
I remember when KT took over Trucks! I was so unhappy Stacey was gone, that I practically stopped watching. Of course I began to watch Kevin over the years in whatever show he was on. Actually I met him while eating lunch at SEMA a couple years ago. All that being said, I'm addicted to his Paintucation Yourube Channel. Best ive seen!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Superb.
I once talked with a highway patrolman, and he told me that those long heavy doors were a lifesaver on the low slung speedsters. He said he never rolled to a fatality on those old Camaros as long as the driver was seatbelted in. I once saw a Camaro when an 18 wheeler decided to park on one. The door kept the driver alive even though the full weight of the cab was resting on his door.
Heard Chef!!! I was gonna lighten the side impact beams on ZedSled ( the reason they're so heavy...) but I decided to keep em safe and heavy. This one will be the same.
My '99 has fiberglass doors.
roll cage
Erie irony here considering my brother almost ran our stepfather's 72 up under the back end of a semi, young leadfoot, mom screaming from the passenger seat caused him to hard brake just in the nick of time.😮
I love that you’re doing these videos again, Kevin! I missed the old days of watching you build Jaded and ZedSled.
You have a gift. You’re informative and entertaining. Keep up the good work!
Thanks man!
My background is corrosion removal and painting of military aircraft. So this channel is "right down my alley". I wouldn't have heard about it were it not for that VGG episode.
So glad to see this car getting some TLC. When Derek picked it up I thought it was done.
I had a '74 Camaro and that was the car that I learned how to change the door bushings on. It was worth the effort as I changed them on my dads '75 ElCamino. The look on his face was priceless, I was at my FIL's house and had left the car in the front yard when we took the door off. Left it laying on a quilt in the yard. Took both hinges to FIL's shop in the back to clean up the hinges and installed the new pins and bushings. My dad showed up in the middle of that work and I was so proud to show him that I could fix his sagging door.
That's a great memory!!! Thanks for sharing it.
Old school passion with modern skills. You re keeping hot rodding alive.
Kevin Tits didn't do nothing in this video just talked to much and brushed on some primer. His westwood videos were good
Kevin Tits is the best
I am very happy to see that you are willing to go so far to share your knowledge. So many people complain about the next generation and at the same time won't share their wisdom. When I was a kid I'd just get told to go to the library.
I can relate to this, when i started working in IT 30+ years ago, the old timers were IBM mainframe guys and would not share their knowledge with anyone. and i hated them for it, because they made my job harder than it had to be. I know most of them were worried that I was younger guy and had a passion for learning and that I would eventually replace them. I was ready to quit at one point, but my boss that told me you can't be promoted, if you can't be replaced, and those old IBM guys would retire in their same positions or become unemployed as main frames were being replaced with PC back in the 90s and in that in IT field everything changes in 5 years or less and if you are unwilling to learn or teach you will become redundant and unemployable in that field. Now I am the old guy and I try to pass on everything i have learned to my team, and still try to keep up with what's new and i have learn a bit from my younglings as well.
I remember pulling my 71 camaro out of a corn crib in the 90's it had been a drag car in the late 70's through late 80's., no rear end no motor drug it home on a flat bed trailer.. my wife and neighbors thought I was crazy... a month and a half later I was smoking the tires off and stepping on 5.0 mustangs.. lol... thanks for bringing me back to those moments.. can't wait to see the finished project.. cheers
I have been watching you for years your all most has good has me lol I'm 52 years old I've been doing paint body works since I was 12 years old you're never too old to learn something new
I totally agree!!! We're underground when we stop learning! Thanks for watching.
I love how in the first video at 18:38 from your floor inspection you already went into detective mood
You’re like the Bob Ross of auto restoration😂enjoying your videos
Kevin when you can put out these great vids , we'll be here . I've learned so much watching you over the years .
Thanks Ronnie! I'm learning too. Thanks for watching!
I'm 77 years old and I love watching your videos because there isn't a time that don't learn something. Yes the days of us using lead are long gone and using a com-a-long on the side of the shop to straighten car bodies is over as well. It makes me think of how far we have come in doing this work. Thank You for your time and trouble with these videos as they can still teach a Old Dog new tricks
I have been building and restoring cars since the early 80s. I really like your style of presentation. I can watch your videos and always pick up useful info. I'll be watching!
A Saturday with a new video of Kevin Tetz showing me how to work on cars? That is some good nostalgia right there.
I always thought you were one of, if not the best presenter on Powerblock. I’m happy that you are continuing on RUclips.
Thanks Gary!!!!
Kevin, I have the utmost respect for you and the rest of the autobody techs. It always amazes me how much work autobody is, and the gratification of a job well done has to be what keeps you going.
Getting back into car projects in my 60's after a long dealing with life hiatus. Love the format here. Kevin doing Kevin his way. Best of luck to him 'paying it forward' with the full time endeavor. That Picklex used in this vid is good stuff. Got turned onto it in Kev's old forum back in the day. My basketcase 69 restomod project in early 2000s sat in my garage for 4 years as I slowly worked on it without paint most of the time. No surface rust ever formed in that time where treated with that stuff.
It's so great finding Kevin again after years. I loved watching the saturday morning car shows as a kid
You are a man of good taste. Autocross, 66 C10, F-bodys. All things we both have and share an interest in.
I'm really enjoying the work on the Camaro. Its nice seeing a car Derek resurrected getting some love.
I was enthralled when you started peeling back the "layers". Lol, it's fascinating seeing how to dissect a collision like it's a crime scene. Thank you. I learned for sure.
This is turning into my favorite car channel. I'm currently restoring a mk1 Toyota MR2 that has waaay more rust than this (thanks to the UK climate) and watching someone else make progress on a project always gives me a bit more enthusiasm for mine.
THanks for watching man!!! I grew up in western Canada, I understand about rust! I'm lucky to be in Tennessee these days.
Great tip that gets highly overlooked in the automotive world. That's exactly how I applied my epoxy to my floor pans after repairing them. Under carpet so not to be seen can't be seen. I love all the knowledge you share with us and I've gained as a do it yourselfer.
I thoroughly enjoy watching the process of Body work repair. Keep cranking out these great videos. They are very intuitive .
You got it!!! I enjoy showing my way of doing it .
Hey Kevin, love the Camaro project!!! I'm glad you're taking on the project, even if you can't show us everything. I know you can't give away all your best tips and tricks for free, but I'm glad you're pulling back the curtain as much as you can. You're such a great teacher, and a huge wealth of knowledge. Keep the videos coming, keep the videos coming, keep the videos coming (lol)!!!🏁🏁🏁
P.S. you and Derick would've been dynamite on a show together back in the TNN/spikeTV days. I hope you two are cooking up another project together.
I gotta be honest here. Yes, I'm a little disappointed you can't do start to finish builds like you used to back in the day. I still get to watch the master work his magic, and I'm good. You have always been both informative and entertaining and is great to see again. So, hell yeah!
Btw, that Miata is absolutely bad to the ass!! I want one, but in silver. 😂❤
If the RUclips gods bless me, we may be doing full builds sooner that I think.... fingers crossed!!!
Oh man! It'll be just like the good ol days again!!! I can't friggin wait!!!!!!!! The level of perfection will be glorious and legendary! ❤
I really want to see more restorations! love the current Camaro build and would love to see that beautiful C10 again! Thanks Kevin!!
I really appreciate you working on these older cars. Nobody seems to do it nowadays other than vice grip. I really appreciate everything you do Kevin and what you teach. It's amazing! Have a great day!
So true on the doors. I got two from a salvage yard to add electric windows and locks to my 1976 Grand Prix. Those doors must have been 100 pounds a piece and salvage yard owner made the guys working there carry them by themselves. He said that's a one guy job.Had to rebuild the door hinges they would always wear out. I saw the the header panel come off a couple times but being an editor myself I know that can happen, so I didn't mention it. Thought you were going for the 80's music video remix stutter style. Yeah that's it!
Yup! it was a "style" thing...... Not a time-crunch gotta get it posted moment.!LOL! Thanks man!
Keep up the great work. Really enjoying these shows. Even old painters like me can learn something.
I understand that you need money and you need commercials. But I do appreciate the fact that you didn't put a 1/2 a dozen in there. 1 or 2 are fine.
That's a RUclips thing, not a kevin@paintucation.com thing. Thanks for watching.
I happy that this car that Derek saved found a good home.
Keep going with your full time job by all means. Totally get your passion, and put out whatever, whenever you can. I’m enjoying the channel and have always wanted to do a Camaro mod like the one you’re undertaking. Will be monitoring for updates, and look forward to the aluminum grill restoration, it’s always been a bugaboo for me.
Thanks for passing on your knowledge and experience and the price is right!
Hey Kevin. Super excited about all of your projects. I’ve learned a lot from you and look forward to learning more.
Kevin, just put out the video's that you can bud. I've been here for a long time and when you have new content I watch it.
Bodywork isn't my thing but watching you keeps me grounded. When I watch your videos it helps me to remember what lane I'm supposed to be in so that when I try your lane and I suck at it, it's ok, because I'm not a body guy. 😆
Anyway, keep putting up progress on your projects. It's good for me to watch them while I work on my own junk.
Thanks dude!
Kevin is like the Bob Ross of restoration! So calming and helpful! Much respect 🙏
Paint whisperer? Lol!
Thanks Kevin for the education and information you have given us over the years. I have watched you since I was a young teenager that fell in love with old cars I turn 40 this year.
This guy is like the Bob Ross of classic car paint & body. Love it.!
DUDE! I'm gonna get the wig! LOL!
The technical stuff, I know it's most important, but it makes my eyes heavy and puts my head bobbin' like a student preacher in week long revival in July.
I like how you put energy into your talks, (it keeps my attention) like someone that snorted rust in the 80s...LOL
But MAN you talks fast. Down here in the south we're more like the Ents from Lord of the Rings stories,
"If it's worth saying, it's worth taking a long time to say."
But then, I guess that's what rewind (back up, go back, or whatever the kids call it these days) is for. LOL Your enthusiasm is infectious. And that's a good thing.
I love the show and look forward to following the projects you have waiting in the wings.
Love that you are back on a video platform... Totally understand the "multiple hats" and that the projects will happen as they happen...
Love from California, Kevin. You've got great energy, and it's contagious. It's nice to meet the real Kevin and not that polished TV Kevin. I tried snorting rust dust in the 80's and almost had a metal breakdown, Haha.
Thanks very much!!! I like doiing RUclips in a realistic way... its liberating. :)
Lets goooo. Dude im stoked to see this car come back to life!
Always check the steering wheel by spinning it along a fixed point. If you see it bent , then it had a collision.
That's a nice car, worthwhile to restore and enjoy it. BBC
You sir, are the Bob Ross of the auto paint industry! Love your videos!
This is the best car channel on RUclips...keep up the great work...
You help so many people with confidence in doing it themselves it’s very admirable. I was doing restoration/ repairs on vehicles for over a decade and the game changer was when I started my own business mobile blasting and honestly I’ll never strip a car down by hand anymore. I charge 1500 for a full blast on a shell guarantee not warp it. But some guy’s can’t afford it or don’t have that option so you doing it by hand gives them a solid boost of inspiration. Love your videos man 👍
I’m being 💯 honest. My wife overheard this video and said “ he’s doing the exact same thing you’re doing to your red 78 camaro.. even down to the chaparral race car!” My response was yeah but he’s going to finish sooner and do a better job 😂.
Ours was a White LT with a 350/350, Centerlines, skinny and fat Micky Thompson's and Highjackers on the back. Tinted windows with black interior looked mean and the 350 had a Holly, Hedman headers and a Pete Jackson geardrive for that sweet whine! Flip the linelock and pin it until the speedo said 60 and then let it roll!
Hey Kevin , love the show I'm 65 been a mechanic all my life even in the military ! Still working on hot rods , but I always learn something watching your channel !!! Till next time take care & stay cool 😎 and keep Cruzin' !! 👍
Thanks man! You're very much appreciated!!!🇺🇸
Glad you're using the PPE. Years ago, I was cutting a board to repurpose it, and there was a square nail embedded in it. It ricocheted off the saw and straight toward my eye. Cost me a good pair of safety glasses, and I got nominated to do the safety talk at work that week...I credit my dad with instilling a safety culture when working with power tools, given that he's nearly cut his hand off twice on the table saw...
I own a 1970 back in the 80s I painted it with a Binks #7.Dupont Centari, 99a pitch black. Back then a gallon of paint like $27 a gallon. Still own the car with the paint job.still looks killer.....
I loved NOVA REX when you were the lead singer. I cant believe you turned out to be an automotive expert. One never knows where life will lead you. Keep up the good work.
Im just an old fart, but i enjoy watching you and others fix up cars like i used to have. Brings back memories. I had a 77 firebird,a 70 GTO judge, and a 68 lemans. Oh my first car was a ford falcon..ha . Pex
I used to enjoy your weekend shows on Spike but I have to be honest. I enjoy your RUclips episodes so much more because you're work on unprepared, crusty stuff and don't just explain what needs to be done then cut to it being finished. Half of the value is learning how to deal with unexpected problems that crop up on real cars. I've always felt that traditional TV show production is also too restrictive in that in discourages jumping around to other projects. RUclips is great for non-linear viewing.
Agreed and I love RUclips and thefreedom it gives me.
I wish you would do these videos full time. I love them. You're great at it. I remember watching you on Sunday mornings. Very good at this and I have always enjoyed your content.
I'm working on it, actually. If I can talk more people into subscribing and create more and better content, that might just happen!
Lots of cool projects, look forward to future vids.
Old classic hand and air tools. No over represented Milwaukee junk. You got my subscription and loyalty earned. ❤
I was going to a body shop repair school in 94 , But life happens,Wish I was your right hand man,And I’ve have watched you for years,Ur awesome
It is nice to see that the old F body is getting some love. I remembered watching when Darik and Sean drug that car out of the barn. Then the look you gave it out in the field before the 350 was robbed. I didn't know if it was getting saved or used for other things. But i love the idea of the conversion and saving it. Trust me im on my 2nd 78 F body.
Love watching what you do (maybe not three times) and thank you for sharing. A lot of us will gladly enjoy whatever you can produce and whenever you can, so don’t sweat having your priorities in the right place.
Thanks man!!
I must say, I remember watching you on Trucks and at the time, you just seemed like the average TV host being paid to promote whatever happened to be on the show (I still watched them all though, there wasn't much automotive on TV then). But I recently discovered your videos here and they are great. I love how you explain your thoughts and reasoning every step of the way. It's very relatable and I appreciate you doing what you do.
Thanks for the honesty and transparency. Watching you work and learning from someone who has been around for so long is truly amazing. We would be fools to get upset at you for doing what you need to do to make your dreams come true when you're giving away your knowledge so freely. Love YOUR snarkiness and the way you cut the internet warriors off before they have a chance to start (yeah I know my air fittings leak, get over it!) had me laughing. Thanks for taking us along on your journey and I'm looking forward to seeing you finish that list while we work on ours.
I found your channel via RUclips suggestion. As weather where I live is clearing up and warming up I am getting ready to do the Body Work on my own Project 81' Malibu. It's channels like these that I look for, gaining knowledge and going out getting my own experience. Keep'em rolling.
Big 10-4!!! Stay tuned!!
Thanks Kevin! Always learning and your format is likely more useful for those not in it daily and enjoy diy.
Much like you, I have a considerable amount of booth time but enjoy the entire process of building cars and trucks.. Finding quality parts is the toughest part and the foreign made aftermarket parts is all we got and the tips and tricks to making them work is what most never experience ...hint
Paint tips and tricks are what I always come back for over the years. Keep em coming!
I was one of the ones that commented on the nose on nose off and nose on and off again, eager to see the rest of the videos on the Camaro.
Lol!!! It's all good man! I can take a hit :).
I like watching you remove rust, dents and bad paint from project cars. If you stop any of your projects 1/2 through the next owner will have a solid base to build on.
I discovered you on Derek's channel a few weeks ago and have been watching you regularly since. I took some autobody classes at community college when my son was 16 so we could "restore" a '68 Chevelle back in the mid-90s. It came out great but I prefer to watch now, not work on them -- so I'm looking forward to whatever you want to show us. Count me in!
I roofed houses for 42 years and tried to enjoy life working on my old Camaros so it could be worse, and you will find the time to do what you love. Thanks!
Check out my old Camaro RS/SS
So glad I found you on here. Always liked your shows but haven’t saw you since way back in the 4 wheel drive days.
I really enjoy your videos. Keep em coming whenever you can. I'm in the same boat, with a full time job and making videos on the side. Just trying to get better!
I'm a 43 yr old diy'er.
The older I get the projects get smaller, although not any easier.
In my 20s a current size project would take hours. Now it's days 😂
Aging sucks 😢
Totally relate to this. I used to yank cars completely apart in driveways and carports. Now that I'm older with a shop and 2 post lift, it somehow takes me longer and I hurt worse.
@@05milmachine90lucky 😃 I'm working outside in the Central Florida heat 🔥🥵
@@05milmachine90 yep. My sons and I would purchase a car every year fall. Work on it and flip it at tax season. We either used the funds for a family vacation or school clothes.
Now they're 17 (identical twins) and have teenage boy brains. No more cars for now. And I'm flipping riding lawn mowers. Keeps me busy.
@@mariocooldude9092 curse and a blessing. I wished I had my 40+ years old attitude at a much younger age.
Kevin is good .He's going to make this car look amazing when it's done
I watched your shows for years, I have learn so much by watching your videos
Keep up the great job
Flipped cars most of my life enjoy watching always learn something keep up the good work
Kevin, I've seen you consult on a couple of automotive shows in the past. When you helped (VGG) Derek paint the giveaway F-100 I really took note of your knowledge and skills. You are great at explaining what to do, when to do it, how to do it, and most importantly, WHY you must do it. I subscribed immediately after the VGG video, and have been watching you ever since. Just wanted send you some appreciation for sharing your expertise in such an easy to understand manner. Oh...and don't forget to prep !
Not to mention that PickleX also improves the result when welding too.
52k Subscribers, keep it growing. Been following you since you wore a younger mans clothes on Trucks and you do educate in your vids. Thank you!
I finally got a chance to watch this video. Back in 1992 I bought a sister car to yours... 74 Camaro red with
a black vinyl top and black interior. It had been sitting for about a year with no engine or trans. The interior
was pristine. I actually bought it to build a NASCAR legal ProStock asphalt car LOL...
I took it down to a bare shell and subframe and sand blasted every inch of the car. When I got the paint off,
I couldn't believe it. The car still had the original paint and it had never been hit and there wasn't a speck of rust
anywhere on that car. People would cry if someone did that to a car that nice now LOL.
Back then I only had time to work on it on the weekends, so it took me over a year and a half to build but it was
worth it. The car looked incredible, and was a winner since its first race.
Yes! Yes! I have a 66 C10, 283, and I fell in love with the trucks! episode that featured your old family C10. So stoked.
I'm stoked about them both the Camaro and the z love watching your work
I watched you for a lot of years Kevin. Got tired of the commercial pushes for products. Seeing your expertise and passion for what you do within an environment you control... just awesome. Keep doing what you're doing. The people will follow. Feel like saying missed ya pal. Lol
Thank you so much!
Dr DeVilbiss's spray gun (and his son's improvements) did indeed change our world, and automotive production. Thank you sir, it's great to get to see you and learn from you again.
I have a 79, it's been around for 20ish 22:39 yrs. I remember Hotrod building the 79 Erod. Watching you gets me thinking about how I can get my wife excited about spending money....
Thanks for clearing up the header issue.
Thanks for clearing up the header issue.
Thanks for clearing up the header issue.
I feel better knowing you didn't put it back on twice to remove it two more times....but l digress.😁
I really enjoy and appreciate your expertise and how you present it.
Thanks Kevin.✌🇨🇦
Thanks for keeping it real with us. I'll continue to watch, learn and laugh with whatever you have time to share. Love what you are about and what you are doing to keep the automotive repair/restoration industry alive for future generations. 🍻🇺🇸
This sure makes me miss my 79 Camaro.....one car I should have never sold.
Wished you had already done the grill restore, currently trying to polish a spun aluminum finished gas tank and struggling to learn as I go,....but getting it there.
Thanks for the idea. I am replacing a trunk floor on a finish painted car and I will probably brush prime all the underside of the trunk. That will make it easier than trying to spray in there.
Kevin I've always wanted to learn many automotive skills like mechanical, body work and paint. Since I grew up before RUclips some of the skills were hard learned. Now that I've found your video's I think I'll be able to learn the paint side of things. Derek has taught me several things and just recently I revived a 1980 F-100 that hasn't run since 2008. So now it's on to body and paint. So THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
