Not wasted resources AT ALL. Plenty of guys build chargers out of these. Often times to use as stunt cars or in movies so no real chargers get destroyed. Probably a good thing I don't have a garage or I'd be tempted to do this to my Vic.
Do it outside

This clone is made only from welding exterior parts to create a Dodge charger facade. There is no rusted dodge body or frame whatsoever.
This is the best way to built a stunt or movie car. Re-use an old cop car with repro charger sheet metal. Better than trashing the rare originals.

Where did you get the body panels ? I'm looking for a fiberglass body

There's no doubt in my mind that this heavy, body-on-frame charger is going to be better in every way than the lighter, monocoque original.
I have yet to weight it but it theoretically should be lighter by a few hundred pounds than what it was previously.
The Crown Vic is only a couple of hundred pounds more than the Charger, so the weight shouldn't be much different than stock when finished.

Pretty close, about 2.6 inches shorter. A Lincoln town car would've worked better being that they are 117.7 inches vs the Dodge charger having 117.
