    Cox had such a huge impact on us as kids that we are not willing to let go of as adults.

    I drooled over this car and another Cox buggy in the Sears catalog when I was a young teenager back then. I always wanted one…I know they’re like hens’ teeth, though…. Thanks for sharing!

    I owned one of these when I was 16 years old. I'm from Oceanside, CA and I got my kit from our local Price Club (now Costco)! Can you believe that? The thing kicked ass until it hit the curb! Or until I drove it into the curb. I was way too young for a machine/toy like that. Edited: Back then cox sold it's own fuel in metal cans that resemble what you would see paint thinner sold in today.

    I had one in the 90s. I lived close to the cox hobbies warehouse that was in Corona California so parts were somewhat easy to aquire. They soon after moved their company out of state. I went through a lot of the brass brake bands. I found that putting two bands on helped tremendously. The one way bearing in the starter gear slips at times their cure was to pour some of the nitro fuel on it to work it out. Best of luck to you, those 12th scale beauties were a blast.

    I had an old OS Guppy radio to control the steering of my Cox doom-buggy. The piston inhales fresh air from under the bottom of the piston through the exhaust ports... haa, ha, the reed valve spits/sucks a bit of fuel into the crank-case. It is a weird way of mixing fuel but it worked.
    My bro had a Mustang U-control airplane with an exhaust dampner that rotated with full "Up" so that the O49 would scream as it did a loop-t-loo. Cox was quite the childrens toys, I loved learning the internal combustion engine from them.

    I'm from control line but I love RC cars and I know what he's talking about when he says exhaust control throttle.. the old cox 049 worked on that and a Read valve carburetor system . Love the vid 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

    I consider myself reasonably well educated on RC cars but I've never heard of exhaust gas recirculation throttle before. Very neat

    I had this same exact one in the late 80s. 89-91.

    I just picked up one on eBay. I’ve always wanted one, and it is finally on it way. 34 years later.
    Did you get the starter thing going? I see your channel is still active.

    You should order fuel from Brodak since they make a blend just for .049 engines with high nitro and about 20% oil half and half synthetic and castor.

    That’s sweet!! I’d love to see it running. I love those Cox 049 engines. Do you have any running vids on your twin engine mini nitro?

    • @mininitrorc

      I do, but not enough to string together for a full length video lol. I did have it running at the end of my last 2-engine video though

    I hope that fuel is chock full of castor oil. Those engines HATE synthetic oil. No less than 20% castor by total fuel volume. They also like high nitro. I use SIG 25% 1/2a fuel in my Cox 049s and they love it.

    • @mininitrorc
      @mininitrorc  4 года назад +1

      If you watch on, you’ll see I talk about needing to add castor oil to my fuel to hit 20%. It’s absolutely not being run with just 12%!

    • @TestECull
      @TestECull 4 года назад +1

      @@mininitrorc Ahh heh. Ye I just wanted to be sure, saw a can of VP Fuel sitting there. Good stuff for a normal engine but these little guys aren't normal.
      They're fun though. Angry bees! I would like to see how that thing drives if you can get the engine to run nice.
      Don't expect much power though. About 40-45 watts is 'bout all she's good for. Might be worth 35%, maybe even 40% nitro.
