Documentation of my mission to preserve and keep as many small-scale nitro vehicles running as possible, as well as convert electric ones!
In the early 2000's, electronic miniaturization had made it's way to the RC world. But with LiPo batteries and brushless motors just out of reach, the electric RC cars of the time were slow and heavy. Enter the nitro engine! Outperforming the electric competition, small scale nitro vehicles proved to be a fast and affordable option in the hobby. But with the introduction of widely used brushless systems and lithium polymer batteries, they were quickly phased out.
These little machines have unique complexities and features not found on many larger nitro vehicles, and are a blast to work on and drive. Thanks for watching, subscribe for regular video uploads!

Despite my best efforts, this little guy is still geared pretty high. It would be an ok trail truck I guess, but it's too top heavy and doesn't have enough torque for serious crawling. I knew it wouldn't be a serious contender, but I tried! Available for sale soon, get subscribed and check for my next video!

Finished the engine and electronics installation on this TRX-4M build. It runs and drives, I swear, but it looks like this engine was toast. Let me get a new engine installed and I'll be back with a driving video!

The build is done. I wanted neat, I wanted awesome, I wanted realistic: I wanted to make a nitro swapped, water cooled, and parachute slowed drag car. I am happy to report that I succeeded.

Finished the work on my coolest 😜 conversion yet. Thats a big motor for this small car. hopefully it flies. I'll let the gasket maker set and we'll fire it up.

It starts easy
Eh, not really. Small flywheel, needs a lot of starter speed and the carb has no LSN so it is easy to flood

Lower the idle down by richening the low speed needle please. It’s running lean
This engine only has a high speed needle. I've richened it pretty aggressively.
Much faster if he stayed electric, but still cool.

Nitro will never make a comeback. Electric is too good now and way faster. Way less trouble.

imagine a fifth scale going through very tall grass, then your crawler. Obviously just the 5th scale will make it, but you still run a crawler for the same reason as others run nitro: fun👍
I have a few Nitro cars and a few electric cars. But I never get the Nitro cars out 'cause they're too much trouble. Same with my helicopters . My gas heli just sit there. All I fly now is my electric helicopters. The sound of gas is cool but to much work when you don't have lot of time on your hands.

Nitro is wanderful but not quite actually fitting the crawlers but excellent work though worth to try.
Why not gear it down more? It’s like 3x as fast as it needs to be for any driving
@@Mckhus I tried. This is as low as I could get it with the transmission and "spur" gear restrictions. I might be able to mess with the diffs but that wouldn't change much.

Was just thinking the same thing. I would be a tad pissed if I was the manager or owner. Some customers (older crowd) have lung problems and that could flair it up. Not like it’s propane powered lol

Looks like a fun conversion project 💯 I was wondering why the idle was so high but, it makes sense now, since you are running a small SH7 flywheel setup. Higher rpm maybe needed to keep it from stalling. That’s probably why your head temp was higher as well Fuel line friction “brake” is interesting idea. Wonder if it would hold up long term? Thanks for the interesting vid🩷
@@a2rc I've done fuel line friction on most of my swaps. It's easy-ish since none of these transmissions were built with a brake disk of any kind in mind, but the clutch bell is always engaged with the transmission. I have yet to see any serious wear on the fuel line brake in any of my builds, but that's the cool part, even if it wears out it's just fuel line tubing. $3 buy some more 🤷
@@mininitrorc Would the chassis allow you to put on hex wideners ? that would help with stability I'd imagine, maybe toss some monster truck wheels on there as well for the fun of it & see how it does in the grass.

Where do you buy the motors and how do you know if they will have enough power for the car? I want to change the motor on my mgt 8.0 by team associated but i dont know where to start am also considering a elecric conversion
