- Just Released Kyosho Le Mans 240 Gold Brushless motor. So why is this motor so expensive and is it worth the hefty price tag? In this video, we take a good look at this new offering from Kyosho and whether it's worth getting one for the upcoming Fantom CRC-II Pan car release later this month.
One thing is for sure, it looks the part.
This motor was purchased from LandLModels.co.uk

I used to race a 240ST in my TRC Lynx 2 back in the early 90's and that thing was a beast! It was by far the fastest motor I ever raced!
I used to have these motors in brushed version 30 years ago... i gave it to young drivers probably 20 years ago. 240, 480.. i hope they still take care of it!
This motor is a thing of beauty and well worth the money. Not a bad price at $125 but definitely not the most expensive brushless motor out there. I’m on the fence about getting one of these but you’re a great salesman and make it look so appealing lol… Might have to get one now…
If it gets you back for me getting all the RC10’s and the JRX-2 a few months ago I’ll take that as a win lol
It's lovely. In the UK it's £184.00 / $250 USD :(
@@AsurasWrath164 while you have valid points… it’s still a cool looking motor and a nice addition for people who collect motors. While I understand that some other people care about performance, some people do not. Some people just like to collect or use it to finish off a shelf queen. For example sticking this in the turbo optima to match the gold motor to the chassis. Might seem like a waist of money to you since you do not get the performance you’re looking for but for others they’re looking beyond performance. To each their own…
Good to know I was not the only one who appreciated stuff like this. I had the red Le Mans back in the day. Installed in a Turbo Optima, with a custom 7 cell battery. Lovely thing, and also it was insanely fast. I ran it too hard and promptly melted the plastic end bell. Forgot all about that until I saw that motor again on your video 😅
The new brushless motors are stunning for sure and it's nice to see the style kept from the older motors.
Damn, I'll have to go for a dig around in my old pit bag and storage boxes for these brushed motors.
Great video and information on these motors i have a kyosho atomic force 17t in a vintage traxxas still going strong
i have an original le mans 600e never used in the box, they came in a plastic pop top tube. amazind packaging
It’s a bloody work of art. It’s so mouth watering it’s hard to use it and get it dirty.
I raced the 240 Gold 1986 in my Ultima 2WD .....wheelies all the Time....was a great Motor.
Interesting vid Gavin👍🏻 I collect Tamiya 540 motors, have close to 40 different ones, some of those are eye watering expensive
There is something about the 480T green I just love
Wauw, SO COOL , i have many many brushed ones of the LE MANS series , now the Brushless variants are also so cool
It’s nice to see the styling continue i to the brushless versions
"That box has to be as old as me, it must be 20 years old?" 😁😆
Wishful thinking for sure lol
I pull them apart to solder so you don't damage the can sticker...
I just finished building the new Fantom Ext CRC2 and installed the Le Mans 240S ESC and the 240 Gold 13.5T motor. The motor alone was $150 USD but it is beautiful and gives the Fantom more speed (like it needs it). I want to drive it but I can’t bring myself to do it yet.
Just picked one up. Thanks Gavin 😊
Quality is amazing but wow $$$
When’s a door not a door….When it’s a jar . boom boom 💥 😂
They’ve got that awesome retro look to them.
Stunning motors for sure 🔥🔥🔥👌
They sure are beautiful 😊
These look great , would love to put them in my optima mid and optima turbo
Those are beautiful 🤩 motors.
I'm looking for a hotter brushed motor for my re- Hornet , my local hobby shop only wants to sale me brushless 🤨👎...
? Can you help me with any good ideals , I'm clueless on what to get !
I'm thinking of putting this in my optima mid re-release.
Hey Gav, I have 2 x Lemans gold 13.5t motors and 240 escs and neither motor will work. I noticed the max Kv rating for the esc's is 3200kv but the 13.5t motors are actually 3350kv. Is that my issue?
@1:23 where did you source that under body protection for your optima mid! i need something like this to keep the junk out!
I would put a piece of cardboard around the motor to protect the sticker when I solder it.
Very nice looking motors and of course nice Video! But as a racer I don't feel very much in Kyosho Motors. The competitive Motors I collect are from LRP, GM, Reedy, Trinity, Peak Performance etc...
I remember a Kyosho Mega in those days and it got easy to hot...☹️
Yeah I agree I’ve not had brushed for 13 or more years but I’ve still got my trinity 6 turn flat wire
You left out the LeMans Formula that, if I remember correctly, was in four Fantom build before you switched to the 480 and made it slower.
Yep I have one in the collection.
Holy crap I miss my Kyosho Optima Mid SE , probably my favorite RC after all these years, I liked it better than my Kyosho Lazer ZXR..
I'd love to get one again!
Fingers crossed for a rere from Kyosho
@RCKickschannel I picked up the Optima mid and the 240 Gold brushless for it, should be interesting lol
Nice collection
WOW are they water proof and would you fit them in a Super Clod Buster?
Yes these will run wet. I wouldn’t put them in a clod no.
@RCKicks you inspired me to build my own clod buster, after many months of tossing the idea around. Cheers bro and happy trails
@RCKicks p.s have you seen 'good to be the geeks' buster. Oh my lord... on RUclips
I have a few of these motors. They're actually reasonably priced if you purchase in japan. I got them for about 80$ each.
Hello, I am building the Turbo Optima Legendary with this motor, can you advise me where to find suitable pinion gear to go along with my buildings please ? Many thanks formyour advice in advance 😊
Any RC store will have them
@@RCKickschannel I know :) But what number of teeth or range of possibilities would you recommend or do I just go with the standard 25 teeth that comes with the kit ? Sorry, still a noob in cars, more of a heli and plane guy 😊
Hello Gav,
Question for you, or anybody else reading this on Kyosho motors and ESC’s
I just installed a new 13.5t gold brushless motor along with the Kyosho LeMons esc, in my new 87 Optima mid. Paired with a high quality 6400mah 120c lipo race battery. I calibrated the, max N/F/R and programmed the settings the best I could, but it seems rather slow. Is this normal for Kyosho motors and speed controls? The speed control seems to have very limited settings.
What is your experience?
Thank you
What pinion and spur are you running?
@@RCKickschannelI am using the stock 25 tooth pinion that was included with the kit, along with the stock spur gear / slipper clutch
i got a vintage 1980s lemans motor on my kyosho maxxum ff
How much would the leman 240sb worth point be
100% depends on condition.
I own 3 of those golds and a couple red 240’s. Not sure theres a difference between em
LeMans 240 ST. Got one of these with my Ultima Outaw back in 89-90. Have not found one any where. Maybe you can?
These pop up on eBay now and again but people are asking bonkers money for them.
They are much cheaper in Japan- Banzai Hobbies sells it for ~70 US. Yes, shipping is high, although if you make a big order it aborbs a lot of the cost and maintains the price difference!
Can i use that motor on a kyosho fazer mk2? I want it its gorgeous
You can but it’s £££ Vs what you can get from HobbyWing or Reedy
Can we have more info on the Le Mans 240SB I thought that was more powerful than the 240S? What does the B stand for?
B = bloody expensive these days.
😂😂😂 I have an original 240SB and original box with instructions in great nick but one of the holes to screw onto the diff is stripped along with a hole to screw in a brush - any tips on fixing them would be amazing… thread lock on the screw holding the brush be ok?
I just got one. It was not very easy to get. I live in California and Kyosho does have a warehouse here. The warehouse here was out of stock? I had to order mine from RCmart . Kyosho does make two different gold motors. I think the 13.5 was made for the Optima Mid. The 21.5 was made for the up-coming on road car. Thoughts?
Is it difficult to get parts for Kyosho in Ca and the US?
@@Moondoggy1941 Usually no.
when its in my rc i wont see it do i ?
I recently started looking for a tamiya m chassis motor to complete a build. Was very sad to see that what was a £30 motor are now in the range of £70plus 😮
I know rubbish right.
Cracking motor that shame to use it just a quick question my boy has autism and loves building rc car kits he wants to build a 1/10th drift car kit something different to tamiya obviously it needs to be model grade and tunable any recommendations would be much appreciated 👍
If he wants to build a true RC drift car, a RWD chassis is the way to go. MST RMX 2.0-S, Yokomo YD-2E are a couple of nice kits. The MST also comes in a RTR. A more budget option but still really good is the Sakura D5 MR. Aside from the normal electronics, you'll need to get a gyro to help counter steer. Hope this helps.
@@skree_fpv436 that's brilliant thanks for the information he wants something he can get his teeth into ill get him on the Internet and have a look many thanks again 👍
LOL, with the price for one of these, I can buy two WLToys 144016 brushless buggies!
Great looking motors... Don't seem to be readily available in the US.
Not too bad to find in the UK but not what I would call mainstream mind.
@@RCKickschannel Beautiful pieces of equipment, though. Wouldn't mind one or two.
looks lovely, but is it worth the money? to me no!! as i want one i can use lol i don't have any shelf queens the closest i have is my dads tamiya circit specal chassis thats been to hell and back and a elec rider thats also been to hell and back haha would like to get them both sorted but i'm not paying the money for a shell so did the next best thing and got a TT01 LB Turbo don't know wether to build it or leve it in the b ox now as there not easy to find ether now.
Some audio issues when you showed the vintage motors. Muffled, like a covered mic.
Clipping issues at the end. Sorry I didn’t have time to fix it and re upload it once I found it.
Hi Gavin, something very interesting has happened. It appears that someone saw my comment below and wants me to message them. They appear to be pretending to be you. They even said that I have won something. I do not plan on responding to them. Thoughts?
Scammers Alfred, don’t respond. I remove as many as I can when I find them. Scammers use my icon image but if you look at the name you can see it’s different.
@@RCKickschannel Hi Gavin, I did not respond. I just wanted other people to see this so they would know to stay away. Thank you and keep on posting more videos.
👍👍👍👍
Where are they made? Before someone says Japan...my Samsung T.V is made in China.
maybe im missing something. but motors can never keep their ful value due to wear and tear of use. and TBH it boggles the mind why people put electronics in a "shelf queen" to never be used. guess its a collector thing but really makes little sense to buy a machine to never use. im referring to electronics btw.
It’s a collecting thing. To have vintage electronics in a special vintage car that are period correct takes it to the next level. You are correct it doesn’t make sense if you are not going to run it but since when did something have to make sense to make you happy. 👍🏻👍🏻
@@RCKickschannel very true
Why don't you talk about it being sensor brushless motor
I think you can see that in the specs and on the motor itself and for that money why would it ever not be.
1/8th scale high end motors are more expensive, but not half as nice looking.
I heard that they are made in China, and not Japan, is that true?
Probably but 🤷🏼♂️
$200usd!!!
So these are going to be shelf queens then? Yes I get why as they are expensive and lovely. I thought you mentioned in one of your videos that the new brushless versions when matched with the Kyosho ESC don't seem that fast. Have you played around with the setup and timing or will you not bother now and just keep them as eye candy? I hope manufacturers don't start putting more effort into making a product look nice and less effort into its intended design purpose if they know it will just end up on a shelf. If they haven't started already. I'd like to see a like for like performance comparison between Tamiya and Kyosho when it comes to brushed and brushless motors and ESC's.
I run one in my Fantom
I just throw the boxes away, solves the box wearing out problem.
Sacrilege
Wucher die Preise.
Jupp, absolut lächerlich.
Definitely not the most expensive electric RC motor bud
what other 1/10th motors are more? I will stay well away lol Don't forget this is UK cost, not US or Japan.

@@RCKickschannel Holmes Hobbies Puller Pro. I can go on. You see here in America we have real racing motors. Also there are a number of small shops hole in the wall moms and pops here and there that actually build amazing racing motors from scratch. Those badass little boys will cost you about $250 each.
@@dboogeman2002 Holmes Hobbies Puller Pro is less at £104.00 / $120USD. The Kyosho Le Mans 480 Gold is £184.00 / $230 USD www.modelsport.co.uk/product/1343251?gclid=CjwKCAjw5P2aBhAlEiwAAdY7dFoblW78Bhpss2KvdEWncG61aWMCpw8JIEA-7_YxV-r8ARO-0R_oyBoCGaYQAvD_BwE
But they're worthless if you never use 'em. And that's not just my opinion, it's right! 🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨
Sounds like your opinion to me. The good news is, it’s up to the person who spends the money to decide how the motor is used and not you. If someone wants to collect motors and display them and it makes them happy, what’s it to you?
@@RCKickschannel Hehe, well I'm joking about myself of course. Heh, amongst other things I do have over 200 Hot Wheels cars and don't run then on their track! 😉
Great looking motors and a nice selection, quick note either my phone went waffy for the duration but the sound quality is awful on here !! 🤔
Yes the last part of the video had sound issues. It was clipping. Sorry I didn’t have time to fix it and upload everything again.
Your Mercedes union jack cap is somewhat ironic. 😒
Why is that?
