The comment section in those news reports was all over the officer for shooting a guy " that was exercising his 2A RIGHTS in his own home " . He opened the door wide while holding a gun after police announced themselves.
While the FL incident was not as involved as this one, it still involved an officer needing to make a split second decision based on information gathered in real time rather than comment sections knowing the eventual outcome and the comment section basing opinions on that. This is why DV is so dangerous. Victim wants help but sides with the abuser in the end. I bet she would have asked for no charges for her Baby.
Exactly. I've made so many DV calls in my career and filed charges, just to have the victim refuse to press charges the next day. Thank GOD Texas made it to where the state files the charges and doesn't rely solely on the victim. In fact, if there are signs of DV and the officer doesn't arrest the suspect and the victim is later assaulted by the suspect, the officer can be held both civilly and criminally liable. My ONLY problem with that, is the magistrates are exempt from prosecution. In my 30+ law enforcement career, I've seen judges reject protection orders or allow visitation to abusive spouses, just to have the suspect injure or kill the victim or their children. Judges should be held accountable for their actions.

Not when she comes out saying that
@@user-be8yz7fe7gBS. Police are typically required to announce themselves upon entry to a home. Had the guy lived, he could’ve argued that he had no idea it was the police and that’s why he grabbed the gun and got shot and probably could’ve sued them. I’m 99% of the time on the side with the police but I take real issue with police not announcing themselves as that is the entire reason that Breonna Taylor was wrongfully murdered in my city of Louisville.

I'm sure the family will blame the kid for calling the cops.
I’m conflicted on this one. If I’d had this officer respond to my neighbors noise complaint, I’d be dead right now. We had officers at our apartment banging on the door at 2am because the old lady upstairs thought we were talking too loud. After they refused to show themselves at all in front of our door we became concerned that they weren’t cops but potential criminals trying to get us to open the door. I went to my bedroom to get my pistol before opening the door and in the middle of my return down the hallway my roommate just threw open the door in his frustration and there I was holding a pistol and two cops entered the door. They were cool headed asked me to put it on the floor and step away. I immediately complied and then they proceeded to clear the apartment.
Could the same response have happen here? Sure the cops ass is covered and legally justified, but could a better outcome have happened with a different response? We’ll never know and some people will feel like the guy deserved what he got but does his family and those that cared about him and perhaps depend on him?
Many people no longer trust the police to handle these situations with it always resulting in excessive violence. Therefore they choose to not call the police. This country needs some serious debate on new strategies to reduce the violence levels and bring about more positive outcomes between police and the public.
Big difference…he saw it was the cops, then went and got his gun. Doubt he want to show the officer how shiny it was
The dude got the gun after seeing the cops. He knew they were there. His gun came up before the cop even drew on him. Totally different situation, although the outcome is definitely not ideal.

"The cops are here??
Ok, i'll go get my shotgun"
Hmmm. You have to wonder what was going through his head 🤔
I’m off topic on this one, and it’s a long one. John, thank you to you and all your staff for the hard work, and education. I have an interesting story for everyone. Yesterday, 5/13/24, my wife and I drove from Central Colorado to meet with a friend of hers in Kansas. It was a late afternoon trip, so we were driving back home late night into early morning on the 14th. We stopped at a truck stop in Kansas for some crappy gas station food around 11:00 pm because all the nearby restaurants were closed. While paying for our food and drinks, another couple had arrived and were in line behind us. I live by the American Express motto: Don’t leave home without it!, so my hand gun is clearly visible in its holster on my hip. I also am a firm believer in educating myself at my expense, and minding my own damn business. The other gentleman clearly doesn’t believe in any of those three things, and proceeds with, “Excuse me, I have a question.” The clerk stopped ringing up our things to listen to his question, but the guy said nothing till I turned to look at why he wasn’t continuing to talk now that he had interrupted our transaction. The guy proceeded asking his question directed at me: “Are you from here (Kansas)?” I said, “No.”, and waited for a follow up question. This nosey guy’s wife quietly asked him why he was talking to me, and his response to her was that he wanted to find out why I was Open Carrying, because he doesn’t think it’s legal in Kansas, so now I’m in a situation where I’m not sure what Karen’s next move is going to be. He’s made this a lesson on the “Rules of Stupid”, and I can’t take my attention off of him, I have to know where my wife is and that she’s able to get out safely if needed, and I’m preparing myself mentally to drop my food and drink from my hands if he decides to escalate matters. The “font of knowledge” continues spewing about it being illegal for me to open carry because I’m not a resident, and it’s not legal at all in Kansas.
As I said, I educate myself, and want/need to know the laws of states we travel through because I don’t want a roommate named Bubba.
For those who don’t know about Kansas open carry:
1. The minimum age requirement to open carry is eighteen years old.
2. Non-residents can open carry in the state because the state has a permitless policy.
3. Right To Carry Reciprocity and Recognition is Outright Recognition
Kansas resident here - can confirm.
Kid who called 911 must feel responsible for saving his moms life
Right
What if is most likely.
yeah I doubt it.
More likely the teen feels their action killed their dad.
More likely feels responsible for dads death
That cop DEFINITELY has trained a lot and is obviously way above average skill. That whole sequence was lightning quick and precise.
It's crazy to think about how the cop initially thought it was a rifle, and what he was possibly feeling when he realized it was a shotgun and how truly close he was to an instant death. At that point, forget having to kill the guy when it could have been you instead if you were even a split second slower to fire
He clearly racked the slide. Put your reading glasses on 😂
Camera at the front door and camera in the kitchen on top of the cabinets. This guy is hyper aware of everything that goes on in, and around, his home. He definitely knew the cops were there.
Assuming....
I mean, how did he imagine that was going to go?
That reload response was CRISP!!
lady screaming like the officer didn't just do her the biggest favor of her life
I’m starting to think that this screaming lady is a paid actress going from shooting to shooting lol.
THIS!!! 🙂
Unfortunately they are real bro! Lol
Ok Alex Jones
She's the Wilhelm Scream of Police domestic calls.
My thoughts were, how much drama and bullshit she gave that dude and now feels responsible for his death because she pushed him over the edge. Looked like a really nice house and that toy in the driveway looked to be about $80k. Who knows though. I feel sorry for the kid who called 911. He/she must feel like they are responsible for their fathers death even though that guy was totally responsible for his actions. What a terrible shame.
Before you call the police on a drunk family member for friend I think you need to ask your self one question. Do I need my friend or family member to die? That’s a very realistic possibility if you call the police to a DV situation. I was in this situation before and so thankful I didn’t call the police they just needed to sleep on it and calm down.
This would be good advice if every situation was the same but they aren’t…. I wonder how many people have been killed by their partners because they refused to call the police.
My sister-in-law’s stepdad said “I’m gonna shut you up for good” before stomping off to get his pistol. His first shot narrowly missed SIL’s head. His second and third shots hit my brother, who was tackling him.
Had the man not been restrained by my power-lifter brother, he would’ve gotten up and tried some more-he kept shouting as much.
There was no time to suggest that he sleep it off.
Yes, but when that constantly happens because you have two grown adults that behave like children living in that nightmare is not as easy as you think sometimes you wanna call the police.
A one time thing, yes, but as others say if it occurs repeatedly its a problem.
