@Nintariz yeah, but heavy spring never really plays nice with heavy distortion, hall reverb does. On top of that your argument can also be used against you, look up analog spring reverb pedals and you can buy one of those. And cleans are subjective, if someone prefers the cleans in the other amp suddenly you have a sweep in favor of the other amp.

When I was in he market for a new amp I tested the HRDIV vs the III and the Bassbreaker 30. I'm a pedal guy, so the HDRIV won hands down. Love that amp. What suprised me though was the difference in the perceived build quality between the HDR and the BB was huge, the BB just felt way cheaper. Just me, or has anyone else noticed this?

I have a Jensen voiced HRD and it's the most versatile amp I''ve ever owned. Wonderful cleans and a perfect pedal platform. There's a reason why it's a best seller - and the spring reverb is just sweet as anything. It'll do basically what you want. I don't think I'll ever want to change it.

  • @mrbigg7255

HRD drive channel secret-drive no higher than 3. Then crank the master to 6 and up. Sounds tons better.
I’ve owned 3 HRD amps over the years.
    Tubes make a big difference.
Got the cash? NOS RCA Blackplates make a difference in the preamp. Currently I have one with 12ax7’s v1+2 and the other has 5751’s in v1+2.
Power tubes- I’m using the GT6L6GE tubes that sound excellent.
Don’t forget to play with their rating system. I’ve used every thing from #1 (quick breakup) to #10 (super clean).
You can hear the difference. Never had a power tube failure. Great tubes.

Weird thing here: With the new Mustang GTX out, I pulled out my old GT 200 and started making up presets. When I tried out the Bassbreaker models, I was drawn to them instantly. They reminded me of my old Traynor twin, not so much the sound itself but the tubey matter-of-fact openness of the clean sound. Oddly, none of the factory presets are based on any of the Bassbreakers. I like the sound of this amp (in the video). Unfortunately, I already have "too many" amps, so happy trails to anyone who buys one.

I had the most fantastic idea for Chappers & The Captain! Have you seen any of these Sound Healing videos out there on the youtubes? Tuning forks, singing bowls?
If you added a few candles, put on some 2112 robes, and put someone on a massage table with a couple marshall stacks aimed at them... "well we tried the vox ac30 with a Brian May special but we could tell it wasn't hitting the 3rd chackra so now we're running a les paul through a fuzzface into a 200w marshall. We're pretty sure this is going to clear any chakra blockages..." Brrrrrrrrrrang!!!!!!
Cut to the poor subject between 2 massive amps with Chappers & Captain to either side (soft ASMR voice...) "sometimes rotovibe therapy is neccessary to clear away sharp cutting chi" and they both blast away each randomly changing their rotovibe pedal positions causing massive My Bloody Valentine phasing.
So many possibilities! A triumphant Anderton's sound healing video could very well break the internet itself!
Watch one of these "tuning fork healing" videos that are out there and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I have both of these amps. My HRD is a USA 90’s model. Since getting my 30r the HRD is collecting dust. That said I still like the HRD; particularly with my pedal board. It’s just a pure sounding classic Fender clean. BUT the 30r is just so musical sounding...it inspires me to play differently every time I plug in which for me is the hallmark of a good piece of gear. I also have the BB15 which as Lee says doesn’t have a lot of clean headroom but I still love it too...

Just wanted to put something out there. I got a BB30R because I loved the 15 so much but I wanted the foot switch options. It is not the same sounding amp. The 15 can get killer tones at low bedroom volumes while the 30 sounds fizzy and just off at minimum volumes. I do the occasional show so I was really wanting this to work for gig and bedroom, maybe if it had a half wattage switch I could make it work but bedroom players be aware.

The only complaint I have of the Bassbreaker is that there is no Level Control for the High Gain feature. I find when you have the Normal Gain Level where you want it then kick in the HG for Leads it’s TOO MUCH VOLUME!! I’ve spoke to Fender and they told me that’s the Number One Complaint they’re getting. So I use an Overdrive instead of the HG in the Amp. I vote for the amp with the max clean headroom and bottom end. Could care less about distortion or the spikey 'Marshall' clean trebles, but that's just my personal tastes. Bassbreaker does win on distortion, but... :-)

Deluxe sounds great too. Chimier. Great with pedals. Had the Deville. Could not wait to get rid of it. Was jumpy. Not like a Twin at all. Like the natural tone of the instrument to stand out.

I have a Hot Rod Deluxe and have to say it’s the best sounding clean channel I’ve ever played. I don’t use the gain channel. Can’t beat the clean channel and pedals.

Hotrod for me. I recently part exchanged a Bassbreaker 45 head for the latest Hotrod
Cuts through the band sound everytime. Last gig I stayed on the clean channel and used pedals. Im so pleased with my set up now.
Have a Katana Head going through the BB212 cab. Amp nirvana for me at this time...

Moritz Lienhard The BB45 is a great amp but it needed a lot of tweaking everytime i set it up. The Hotrod has been gigged 3 times now and sounds great straight away everytime.
      Thats my experience
I also have the amp on a tilted stand which helps im sure!

Thanks Guys for the reviews of the Bassbreaker 30r. I was looking for a combo-replacement for the Marshall JCM2000 50W half stack, because I was tired to carry them around. Rob and Lee made me very interested of the bassbreaker. Now I have bought one, and I could not be happier. The amp is so versatile. I´m playing rock from 60s to modern rock, and the amp suits for everything. The Marshall stack is on sale :D

I have both… I prefer the deluxe for melodic tunes as it’s a bit warmer with more sustain. The bassbreaker I use for distortion and blues because it has a bigger sound to it… Lee says the Deluxe is bigger with more bass but that’s not true (the opposite)

Both seem to be fine amps, but I much prefer a Fender Twin.
I can sympathize with Lee when it comes to trying to play at home with young children around. I’m currently playing out of an Ibanez TSA30 (a great amp you guys should shootout against some more popular Tube Screamer pedals) but it’s way too much. I’m on the lookout for a ‘70s Champ. I’m hoping 5 watts will make for the perfect home amp.

      Why choose?
      I own both!
Bassbreaker is great grab and go and skip the pedals kind of thing and the HRD is the bringing the whole rig amp.
I put Warehouse ET65s in both amps and pair them with a Seismic 1x12 with a Warehouse Veteran 30 ... improves the tone immeasurably.

Played HR Deluxe for years,1st version, massive headroom and great reverb but it was always too loud, played medium sized clubs with knob on 3 and was asked to turn down every time and thats with lower output Fender Mustang. For me the drive out of the amp was usable but not great, grainy and harsh. Sold it and tried Rivera - better drive but no character whatsoever, sterile. Tried Mesa, similar problem,Fender clean is Fender clean. Tried 5e3 point to point, clean is there and drive is there but...with 12w and Jensen volume is just not there for playing with the band, too expensive for me for just studio and home use. Long story short, R30 has perfect wattage, its not too heavy and for the first time affordable workhorse with good cleans and good drive. We all want twin reverb and JTM with vintage ac30 in between, in light and small but not to boxy sounding combo and played many amps this is the closest it gets. Put it in a Dumble cabinet and 99% people would drool in 100 000eur ave haha...

The HR Deluxe has a classic Fender clean and takes pedals brilliantly. The Bassbreaker has a 2 channels, the gain channel that is good and takes pedals pretty well.
The Basssbreaker seems to be a RUclips baby that never sounds as good in person as it does in the demos.

I have to say, as a Marshall DSL40c (mk1) owner, I wish I would have bought the Bassbreaker 30 instead. Very versatile for a similar price. Better drive channel and great cleans. But it came out a bit later than the Marshall so oh well.

Just tried one for the first time a few days ago, and the drive "punches" in a way that is not conveyed at all through those microphones, especially coming from the Gibson I tryed in. Gotta hear it live. True fact: it is but a light crunch, albeit not a bad one. And it did feel L O U D indeed. Will try the BB30 some day; the BB15 was too much of a lackluster to me.

    • @cebrinpitts

Yeh, just not versatile. Gets really muddy when cranked. Which if you're going for that, cool. I just never could gel with it. I didn't like the way it stacked comparatively with the rest of the tones. Loved that amp as a platform, though.
