I just wanted to thank you guys, from the bottom of my heart for taking your time and doing this... As soon as it popped up on my feed i cried... Our daughter is back home... She is opening up a little, i know its going to be a long road... I struggled when i was her age and still fall back into that now... Her mother and i would do anything for her.. I just wanted to let you know it was much appreciated...thank you very much because i know this is a touchy and polarizing subject. people think it'll never happen to me or my kids but the way the worlds going right now with full access to everything through social media and internet, etc... Its happening alot... There were 20 kids in the center with my daughter and it hurts to see that young generation think that their lives mean nothing and the world wouldn't be losing anything with them not being here... THE WORLD NEEDS THEM...AND THEY NEED TO KNOW IT...
    Thank you again very much....

Someone should've mentioned a little history of Suicidal Tendencies for you guys. First,Mike Muir is the only lasting member of the band with 30 or so previous members he IS Suicidal Tendencies. Second, noone mentioned that these guys were banned from playing shows in L.A. in 1987 due to the violence and basically riots associated with their shows(they couldn't be insured as a band because of all the damage). These guys came up in a time before the web and still gained mass attention because they were different and great. They had thier own sound as a hardcore punk act and with the addition of Rocky George excelled into being an incredible thrash metal band.Rocky broke down racial barriers and stereotypes in metal. There were no colors in Suicidal,it didn't matter if you were black, white,Latino whatever,it was about the music. Third, this band has stood the test of time. They just released a brand new album(2017)and have added Dave Lombardo from Slayer on the drums!!! 1982-2017 that's 35 years of awesome punk/metal Psycho Mike has given us. I absolutely love what you guys do and wish there were more free thinkers like yourselves in this world. Keep it up. Suicidal 4~LIFE

Great statement. Must add it really has been over 40 years since Suicidal Tendencies was created by Mike Muir. The idea came to him in school and started.late 70s.
They were often called Thrash, off of the Thrash Punk/Skate Punk that was raging in the area. Pre Thrash Metal that dropped to just Thrash. SO, Metallica is really not first Thrash band. Just first Thrash Metal. ST are often said to be The Originators especially also hailing from Venice where extreme skateboarding started.
Mike's brother was also an original Z-Boys so he was there from the beginning and got to play a lot of the parties from the start. Thus all the local support they got which spread around the underground rapidly. I got a tape for my mother's friend who visited the area in 1980. I played it for all of my friends here around Philly, who loved it. Then to our surprise a lot of our worldly Tape Trading compilations also included them.
Their evolution and vastness is amazing. I am inclined to the Metal years, but love their rollercoastering span. Truly does break down barriers and come deep from within the heart. Cannot count how many times I saw them. 87 was a great year in my PA/NJ/NY & DE/MD area though. Went to shows night after night. All varied & NEVER DISAPPOINTED! Maybe thanks to la banning them?
Glad to say I got to know Mike personally and beyond the music saving my life on several occasions, Mike helped me himself. I have met a lot of so called stars. But Mike Muir has got to be my favorite. One of the greats. And now with Dave Lombaro! Just need Rocky George back. I can not imagine the music that would pour out of that combo. Dive into some of what Mike has been suppressing & exploded bits of their youth out again.

spot on brother. they were banned for a minute . think that hollywood palladium show that rioted in i cant remember late 86 early 87 was the city councils last straw. used to get punks and metal heads and even a few cholos at their gigs and back then the punk and metal scenes did not mix very well at all. epitome of an underground band. true originators of thrash metal skate punk and deserve a spot in the rock n roll hall of fame right next to the ramones imo.

I hope you guys realize how huge a thing you did here. As someone who suffers from depression and PTSD, I can confirm that when someone reaches out to you like this, it can mean the world, it can even sometimes mean the difference between life and death. The fact that you care, you took the time, you reached out, it says a lot about your character as human beings.
Right now problems like depression are proliferating more than ever, and luckily, people are starting to have more outlets and ways to find help, but it's still far, far from where things need to be. People like you help make the difference needed to get people through those hard times, every bit as much as the bands we listen to and the songs you're creating content about.
I already loved your content and thought you were really intelligent, entertaining dudes, but now my respect for you has gone through the roof. I really hope you guys are doing this for a long while and are successful, healthy and happy in all of your ventures. Much respect and gratitude.

At the end of the Heavy Emotional version video for this song. it is written on a paper "sometimes the hardest thing to admit is that someone really does care" So true!
Mike Muir always has had a way to reach out and make me feel like I was not so alone. Alone is also one of my favorite songs by them. Mike even personally helped me out. Amazing guy.
If anyone is ever feeling depressed I think they should listen to the band. So many are put off by the name but they don't understand. Like how would he be doing this for so many years if he did not find a way to keep pushing on as we must.
They are widely known mainly by name only unfortunately. They never got the notoriety that they truly deserve. I can only hope that third day will come as they are one of the most deserving bands in the world.
Hope that ST continues to help people as they helped me. Best to you all

I got this album the day after I got out of the hospital for my own suicide attempt back in 1988.After listening to the album and lyrics it was the 1st time I realized that other people had these feelings too and that I wasn't alone. It was a very comforting feeling. They became my favorite band and as you can see from my avatar I REALLY got into them. Great reaction video!

Don't know the situation, but she opened up to you guys and that's a start and giving the situation a precious chance for you guys to help her! That's a very fragile age for anyone. Nowadays is really though for kids, because of social media, bulling and crap that shows on tv that sends the wrong message for the youth. Just read some comments here and some people found a relief by sports. I went through a breakup with my ex and it was painful after 8 year relationship. My relief was the music. She is going to be alright you'll see. Why? Because she knows mom and dad loves her. Love is a very powerful thing. God bless!

You guys do exactly what everyone should do when it comes to listening music. Pay 100% attention to the music, no distractions at all, pay close attention to the lyrics and the relationship between lyrics and music, pay close attention to every little detail in the song. Man, that's what listening music is all about. That's why you guys get to understand all this different genres of music, and I think that is really cool.

Some people do not understand the power of music. Reggae music centers me and helps me relax and tune out the outside world. I have always suffered from depression and anxiety. I never got to the point where I wanted to end my life, but I reached the point where I didn't care. My friends and I all had sport cars and motorcycles and we did some stupid things. I'm amazed that we are all still alive. Although one lost his leg in an accident. Not until seeing my family at my brother, mother, and aunt's funeral in a two year span, did I relize how important life is.

Get Em Jones music can be the most powerful art form. Unfortunately people misunderstand it when it is a genre or style they don't like. I am pretty open to most genres and I hear questions like "why do you listen to angry sounding music" when I listen to music with the hint that the music will make me angry because it sounds angry to them. Music is a great outlet and I 100% agree with your original comment

When I was a teenager I was in a very VERY dark place for several reasons. I honestly didn't want to live. I found ST in the middle of it all and it truly helped me through it all. People asked me how as they really couldn't see how. I really can't explain it completely, but there were a couple of songs of theirs that didn't try to gloss over or attempt to suppress the depression but they had lyrics I could relate to that helped me realize that I wasn't alone. My crazy thoughts weren't unique and others have gone through the same battles as I was. Sometimes all it takes is having something to relate to just to get you through the moment. I know it's weird, but it really doesn't matter what others think - it's only about what matters to you and what helps you overcome.

Mike's life's experiences were told through his lyrics. Still today, I play guitar as an outlet and this song is my go to song to release the pressures of life and it's setbacks. Rocky George is incredible. My all time favorite guitarist. Don't know where or if I'd even be here today had it not been for S.T. in my life as a young man and even as an adult fighting my way through this crazy thing we call life. Peace to all and long live S.T. ... JOIN THE ARMY ... THE S.T. ARMY !!!

I was actually typing about how we use this dark music as a coping mechanism, but as always you guys were all over it! I’m not a hard drug addict, but there is a song out there that really touches on that. Wake Up by Madseason. The lyrics are written to himself! Really heavy shit! It’s melancholy at it finest, so don’t react to it unless you’re ready for some deep dark helplessness! The song really helped me, but not for everyone.

I know I'm a bit late for this to be current, but this band helped to save my life when this song was new, and I think it's an amazing act of kindness for you to help people realise that there are loads of people that can relate to these feelings. This is a subject that people talk about but if you have not dealt with depression yourself, it can be very hard to relate the person that is depressed. This song and several others on this album have been the thing I've used to get my friends to understand. Hopefully you have helped someone else with this.

Nice gesture, gentleman. I think it's worth pointing out that the guitarist on this song is a man named Rocky George, and he was one of the first African-American people to have a real impact in the world of heavy metal with his playing. He was a member of Suicidal Tendencies from 1984 to 1995, and I think a lot of people would point to him as someone who helped tear down racial barriers in metal. He's still widely revered as a guitarist today.

James Cameron ST is criminally under remembered and recognized in the Metal and Music media outlets. They're a truly original band and were WAY ahead of their time.
The musicianship was among the best to have ever graced the scene. People just couldn't accept the LA cholo punk look for whatever reason. Skin tight spandex was totally acceptable, but not cuffed jeans and flipped up bills.

Suicidal Tendencies definitely have that "something different" aspect to their brand of metal. Multiple members came from gangs in the Venice California area. The singer, Mike, has a cholo style in the clothes he wears. The guitar player, Rocky, is freaking amazing. He's one of the prominent African American guitarists to hit the scene in the 80's. The bass player is now the bass player for Metallica. I credit him as the reason Metallica has returned to the classic metal style of their earlier albums.

    • @n2nother
      @n2nother 3 года назад

To be clear; not the bassist on this record. This is Bob Heathcote and it’s his only record with them. Before him it was Louichie Mayorga. After that they had Rob Trujillo who went on to be the current bassist of Metallica.

Posted this back in your Slayer and Master of Puppets Reaction videos, I'll post it here again if you don't mind :3 :
Hey guys, I'm a musician who leans a bit more to the rock and metal spectrum of music and I really love your reactions to metal music. I'll admit, at first I was a bit put off by your pause-resume style of reviewing, but I have grown to appreciate it and look forward to you guys reacting to particular sections of songs that I know are amazing.
Anyway, in case you guys didn't know this before, there is actually a term called 'The Big 4' which was/is used to describe the biggest 4 Thrash metal bands during the 80s and early 90s (and since Thrash was the biggest metal subgenre then, by extension, they were the biggest 4 metal bands at a point of time too), and you guys have reacted to 3 out of the 4 so far (Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer) so I thought it would be great if you could react to the 4th band, Anthrax too.
Admittedly, they were the smallest of the Big 4 but they were highly successful and influential too. And interesting fact for you guys, they are even credited with being the first ones to combine rap with rock with first their comedy song I am the Man and then their collaboration with Public Enemy on the track Bring the Noise.
If you guys want to check out their classic stuff though, I'd recommend the songs 'INDIANS', 'CAUGHT IN A MOSH', "I AM THE LAW'(which is based on Judge Dredd, the comic), but if you don't mind going through some lesser mainstream stuff, 'BELLY OF THE BEAST' has one of the coolest rhythm shifts I have ever heard in a song while 'KEEP IT IN THE FAMILY' has some really awesome lyrics about racism and xenophobia. Please check these guys out :)

Very cool of you guys to do this for someone. Suicidal Tendencies helped me through some rough patches in my life. Especially when I was a teenager. Good stuff.
