Probably one of the best videos i have seen! Thank you for this informative post!
Wow, thanks! Glad it helped.
Well must tell you that I have watched prolly 20-30 Hudson vintage vids but just this one video of urs had waaay more info in it than all hers combined. You really know ur stuff.
Wow, that's a huge compliment as Hudson knows her stuff! I am not an expert, and I do get things wrong from time to time. But it is a continuous learning process.
@@FindsofYesterday ur vids are waaaaay more informative!!!!!!
@@FindsofYesterday lol I have to tell you I was just on the live auction for Hudson vintage lol she was bragging about this "negligee" necklace she was trying to sell. Well I searched the definition of "negligee necklace" and what she was selling as a negligee necklace was NOT correct!!!!! The definition was: two separate uneven dangles from a central component. I think I will just stick with ur channel & others apparently she doesn't know her stuff!!
Forgot to add I posted the definition of "negligee necklace" on her live.......it was totally blocked!!!!! Lmao
Thank you!@@twerkinthecityhuh6340
Oh my! I just found you...and in this short video you have given very valuable information in a simple and visual way. Thank you so very much.
😊 Appreciate you watching!!!
We’ll done! I learned so much.
I want to tell you I worked at a jewelry store which specialized in handmade jewelry beading silver and gold etc. Lobster Claw clasps came out around 1977 as we used them. I remember the owner went to a show in Miami and came back with them and barrel clasps. We liked the lobster claw clasps best. (But men seemed to like the barrel clasps on their beaded style necklaces.)
Do you know the difference between those and the more modern ones she is speaking of here?
@lrichard9401 please watch my newer video that came out as it goes more in depth with lobster claw clasps
I will!
Lobster Clasps
Although it has predecessors dating back to 1959 and 1976, the modern lobster claw clasp we know today wasn't patented until 1996. So, while a piece of jewelry may have that vintage look and feel, if it's sporting a lobster claw clasp, it's actually a more recent creation!Apr 14, 2023
This has been beyond helpful. Thank you

Will you do a video on vintage rings & how to tell? I recently inherited my mothers jewelry but can't tell if any of it is worth looking into selling or not 😅 Thanks so much for the info in this video. It's helped so much!
I do not sell many rings so am not as familiar with those. Just starting to learn about them. Maybe someday 😊. Congrats on your new collection. And thanks for watching.
I love this video!! I am going to use the info while at flea market ☺️
Lol! That's great!!! Thanks for watching Tanya!
Awesome video. Yes please make a video about beads. Thank you.
Regarding the clip on earrings, my Mom has some that have a rubber or foam piece that protects the ears from sharp edges.
Yes, and they still make them today. I think we determined that them were probably shoe clips.
The weight and sound I use regularly when shopping but the information is on point and done really well.
Thank you Shelly!

@@FindsofYesterday I am sure, I will be back....in fact I have been already:). I am a complete newbie but I am very much interested in vintage costume jewellery. I love colourful, shiny pieces but aqua/ocean blue is probably my favourite. Thanks again for the explanations.
Just found your channel I hope there are more videos
There are about 163 videos available and another one coming this week. Thanks for stopping by and watching!!!!🥰
@@FindsofYesterday yep found them and binge watching thanks
Very nice video. I really enjoy it but Hi in few years all lobster closure, we consider as a vintage, then what we should do😂😮
LOL! True but I think I will still use lobster claws as newer and not claim them as vintage. Some people consider vintage as 50 years so we will be safe. 😄
I bought a necklace at a thrift store with a small brass barrel clasp with obviously many years of use. I wonder what era to think it belongs to.
Barrel clasps are still being made today, so if you see one with a patina and most likely gold tone, it would be older.
The item at 6:05, she refers to it as a clasp and a clip; she showed it right after showing the screw-on ear ring. Is the item at 6:05 actually supposed to be an earring too? She mentioned that nowadays it would not be so rough. But it's hard to imagine that anyone in any era would be willing to wear a rough or sharp earring without pierced ears.
Most likely a shoe clip. Thanks for watching!
@@FindsofYesterday oh thank you, that makes sense!
Would like to know the price for each piece, would help to know value, have lots of mom's jewelry, trying to determine selling price thanks
@@sandrapeterson2691 In later videos we talk a little more about pricing. I will try to add more of that in my future videos. Thanks for watching.
You do need to fix your spelling of titbits as you spelt it wrong 😊
I have always followed the same rules that you follow when determining jewelry age. Recently, I learned that I have been selling a lot of newer pieces at Penny's on the dollar. It's worth taking the time to find out which newer brands have very high value (even though they were made between 1990 and today). David Yurman is a good example. Many of the newer items are worth more than a good vintage piece from the 1950s or '60s.
I agree
