In regards to CWC, there's an iconic picture of SBS operator Sergeant Paul 'Scruff' McGough during the fracas at the Qala-iJangi fort, where he became famous so to speak in a video clip standing on the battlements with his gimpy machine gun, firing from the hip and raining fire down onto the angry Taliban. In the picture I mentioned you can see Paul's CWC SBS watch on his wrist clear as day! Pretty cool to see one in the wild being worn by actual an actual SBS chap!

Hi TGV. Despite the fact that I only possess four watches, I'm a watch enthusiast and an addict for your excellent channel. The watches I own all have seriously sentimental value for connections with family and personal events but my Seiko Kinetic Sports 200 diver is the most precious to me as, having owned it since 1996, it's the watch I've worn when climbing with my son and daughter since they were young to the present day . . . I'm now 77 and we still have magic days together on the mountains of my homeland in Scotland and where we now live in Vancouver. As these days have been (and continue to be) the best of my life, wearing the Seiko everyday keeps them alive in my memory and my kids close to me . . . even when they themselves are not. Incidentally, the Seiko cost me £325 twenty eight years ago, has only had one replacement capacitor in that time and, in terms of time-keeping, gains a couple of seconds a month. PS: I was in New York last weekend for a gallery opening of a show including my artwork. I know how you feel about being back in the city . . . it's been my favourite since working there on and off since 1976 and the excitement never leaves me.

The Citizen NY0040 is such a world-beater. As a scuba/freediving watch it's the only one I've ever owned that has never had a jammed bezel due to particle intrusion. The brutalist, some may say "inelegant," 60 click bezel and built-in mechanical play (both to help with ISO compliance) mean that it feels dramatically different to the ultra-smooth, non-ISO desk divers, but it's actually the most practical of the bunch in the water. They go on sale pretty regularly, for cheap enough that you can thrash them without worry. One of the best automatic tool watches out there, and I'd own more than one if I wasn't confident that this one will outlast me.

They may still be assembling watches using existing cases and movements, or we may see yet another update with the 8205 movement. It's rare to see them out of stock though, so at least for the time being there are quite a few waiting to be sold.

Certina DS Action diver. Since 1888 Certina innovated some of the toughest watches for the most extreme places. 1965 the Certina DS takes part in the US Navy's Sealab II, 1969 it spent 2 months underwater with NASA scientists. Happy to see the Citizen Promaster on the list. I picked up their solar/quartz model this year. I was on the hunt for a solid outdoor rec watch - something I could use hiking, cycling, swimming etc. and not worry about it. I couldn't bring myself to spend the money on an automatic, and this became the first quartz in my current collection. It has become my go to watch, I just love it, and with the excellent water resistance, I can wear it worry free. This watch definitely feels snob-proof. I don't see how anyone could not love it.

I personally keep gravitating to the Certina Heritage DS Super PH500M. I call it The Phantom as the letters on the dial suggest. Its classic styling, with cross hair dial and sword hands appeal to me. It does an orange dial, and even a smaller 38mm dial. He case has a beautifully domed sapphire crystal, on a ufo style vintage case. For £700, this Swiss Made marvel represents good all round value in my humble opinion. Onwards and upwards!

      @gillk 4 месяца назад

@@OscarOSullivan Well, the TGV video (one of his best) got me more excited about the NY0040, but I have to say it was a customer's picture on Amazon that first drew my eye. What goes unmentioned or unnoticed about the NY0040 is how it looks from an angle. Most often we judge watches while viewing the face, but it's the shape of the case and bezel on the person's arm that drew my attention. There's something about the intermittent pattern of the 5 notches around the bezel that creates the rugged character of the watch, while the shape and proportions of the bezel and case present it in a more refined and balanced manner than any of the later versions were able to achieve. In short, I think it's perfection. Even the NY0085, which is almost identical, loses something by changing the font size on the bezel.

Great list! I'm a bit late to the party, but I have to nominate the Glycine Combat Sub for the #10 spot, specifically my beautiful GL0401 black and gilt 39mm model (my 6.5" wrist was thrilled when I found it). While it retails for only $550, the quality is just as high as every other watch on this list in my opinion. Beautiful dial, great finishing, workhorse movement, snappy bezel, and 300m water resistance at only 11mm thick. I originally intended to purchase the black and gilt Tudor Black Bay 58 but after trying on the Combat Sub I actually liked it more, specifically because I find the case shape to be more refined and comfortable. Heresy, I know, but that's just how I feel. Keep up the great videos brother, and if you ever want to include a CS39 in a future video I'm happy to loan mine out, drop me a line!

I also had QC issues with my Yema. The lume actually detached from two circular indices and were floating around the dial! Great list! My pick for #10 would have to be a Hamilton Navy Scuba Auto or, if your wrist can handle it, the Victorinox INOX Professional Diver!

Couldn't agree more! Finally picked up a titanium light blue version after missing a few of their restocks. They get a lot of respect from those who actually dive with them and Paul's Comex experience lends the brand a lot of gravitas. Time will tell but I feel like they will always have at least a cult following among watermen and waterwomen.

I have two sub $1000 divers, absolutely snob-proof, and in the micro brand space, they are indeed iconic: Zelos Hammerhead from any of the three generations and the Zelos Swordfish, from any generation. Both have been made in bronze, steel, titanium, and even tantalum. Dozens of different color ways, including meteorite dials. One day Tristano you will do what I've been crying out for and take a look at the King Of The Micro Brands. And if you ever want to borrow a few Zelos, I have 70 to choose from.
Can't argue with your choices sir. I personally own watches from Seiko, Citizen, Bulova, and still have my beloved Squale Lion Shark. Others on your list I have at least gotten to enjoy as loans.
I think you did make one mistake/oversight sir: The Marathons. Double tough diver military watches. I have the set of 36mm, 41mm, and 46mm....the last one being the JSAR YAMAM Israeli Special Forces one that Marc himself found for me. Thanks Marc!
Excellent video sir, as usual. Onwards......Upwards....Ciao.......

TGV, you def covered the wide variety of superb options...the Willard! My thoughts on the Mil Ships starts and immediately ends with the overly narrow strap and choice of movement. Adding two options to this amazing list...at number 3 I almost thought you were going to add it...but I will suggest the greatest summer movie watch: Alsta Nautoscaph SuperAutomatic! Before watch product placement was a serious thing Alsta Nautoscaph starred prominently in the 1975 movie icon Jaws on the wrist of Richard Dreyfus (watch the movie and see just how often the watch is front and center in the scene). Also add to the options the Hamilton Khaki Navy Scuba. Both options are fun and very reasonably priced. Next episode should be the other end of the spectrum - high end luxury divers and all the magic they offer or dont offer. Pure class as always. O&U

"Watch casting" vs "product placement," a very important distinction I hope you can develop in the future. Well done. I thought your Jaws intro would lead to an Aquastar (my nomination) as I believe the Richard Dreyfus character wore one in the movie. All the best.

I really like that Squale 1545 in blue. Looks like a great Summer watch. I keep going back between this model and a Christopher Ward Dive C60 or C65 watch (I know they lack history) but they are making fantastic watches

Good evening TGV! Great watch picks and I was truly surprised go find the G-Shock in the pole position! But yes, it makes sense! And I really appreciate how you picked just the right clips for each watch!
Just recently my eyes caught a Mido Ocean Star on a Sharkmesh-bracelet, with a grey dial and orange markers on the bezel, which I actually quite liked. And I think with some luck one can catch them under the $1.000 mark
Have a great evening! Best regards!

Your video on the NY0040 really made me want one. Last Christmas I got a German market 8203 dialled but 8204 in the case NY0040-17L. Love its finishing, lume, day date and the colour of the date wheels and date window frame, the dial itself, the bezel and bezel action, the size of the case, its design, how it wears and the 8 o’ clock crown which allows for comfortable wear during press ups.
It is worn on a CWC green grey G10 strap and has dings from my part time supermarket stock job which it has stood up to. Unlike the SKX everything lines up properly and I prefer the design and maker.
Citizen are quite an underrated brand compared to Seiko.

I like this list. One point I would add is that a lot of these watches are vintage-inspired, and you can actually get the vintage version of some of these. You are going to pay more, but for people who are looking for a watch with a history and are willing to sacrifice some practicality, I think it's a great option.
