I think most trials bikes could make it up many of these tough hillclimbs with an average trials rider onboard , with a new sharp set of actual competition trials radial tires which run on 3-6 lbs air pressure.. they would not win the speed/time to the top of the hill contests but they would make it up these hills without too much difficulty. trials bikes are amazing. They have so much traction, they weigh less than 175 pounds,..They are so easy to control as opposed to an overpowered heavy machine with an extended swingarm.. I have had four trials bikes. After some practice, you can stand still without the bike rolling with both feet up on a trials bike indefinitely without putting a foot down. Those soft trials tires have enough traction to climb uphill streams when the rocks are covered with moss..
I also think that with a trial bike it would not be so difficult, if it were all a continuous climb with these monsters it would be easy to climb, but as there are flats in between the inertia is lost and these beasts are very difficult to handle like this . With a trials bike you could stop on the flats and launch the bike with great traction without the need for so much inertia. But I'm not sure if trials bikes can compete against these monsters, not even enduros can, just prototypes can. 👌

In Austria, that small country in Europe, we have recently also been doing steep slope races. But we make a small difference. We drive down! Many horses also flee because they are afraid of the horse meat loaf dealers waiting at the finish line!
I wonder if there is a fastest time factor to this contest in getting up the hill, or merely the longest distance reached before being ejected or falling? i noticed one guy came to a dead stop with both feet on the ground then continued farther up the hill to the last hump before losing control & falling over. Speed and high rpm seems to work against the riders. Like riding a 18k rpm Hayabusa rototiller with extended swing arm to keep the front forks down & a car tire for traction. Maybe a much smaller moto, one with high torque @ lower rpm, a trials type moto with large knobbed rear tire & massive rear reduction sprocket (or even with a paddle/ sand tire to plow throughn the 3' deep trenches & loose soil dug up & furrowed by previous hill climbers. I rode a stock 1963 Honda 55cc step thru model trail bike with manual 4 speed that was set up with a oversized block knobby rear tire and a rear sprocket almost as large as the rear wheel itself, made for hunting & riding far into the back country and carrying out a deer on the rear rack, It crawled up some similarly steep hills at very low speed by tacking switchback style side to side up the steep hills, also floated over some very steep & loose sand dunes fairly well, All at about walking speed or just a little faster. Top speed being about 8-10mph at best & Uphill 4-5mph. No rooster tails or having to get a running start, just low end grunt with ample time to make careful navigation choices around, over or through obstacles.
I also wonder if a great trials rider with the right bike could make it up. Seems to me that slow might work. Do the tires have to be rubber? There is so much suspension on the bikes why not all metal wheels with very aggressive traction? Is all wheel drive allowed? Thanks.
@@andyeverett1957 Something like a modified 2wd Rokon trail bike might do the trick, they have tractor type tires that can be filled with liquid which would give better traction as well as keep the front end down at such an incline.. the old Rokons had 2 cycle engines and larger tires, the new ones are 4 cycle with a bit smaller tires., a 4 cycle might have a lubrication problem spending so much time going up such an incline angle so slowly, the 2 stroke would'nt care.
