However we still feel that the more common HE 111 would be a better overall choice as we only see the Fw 200 in game. 23:07: Just like the Thompson, the Bren also has a bolt hold open feature meaning that only the magazines have to be swapped for firing to continue and no charging of the weapon is necessary. _____Extra Inaccuracies_____ 1:36: The Mosin Nagant in game appears to be modeled on the M38 Carbine version which were primarily given to gun-crews and non front-line combatants, it should be the standard issue M91/30 Mosin Nagant instead. 1:50: Soldiers in WW2 were trained to hold pistols with one hand. The teacup pose being used here in the game was not recommended. 4:06: All of the half-tracks in the game also have yellow triangles on their roofs which were only put on convoy-leading vehicles meaning the vast majority of them should not have this marking. 4:38: The half track we put the TNT onto is a Wurfrahmen 40 which the Red Army soldiers misidentify as a Panzerwerfer 42 during the sequence. 4:56: ''Solechnaya Street'' is a typo, it should be ''Solnechnaya Street'' which means ''Sunny Street'' and was renamed to ''13th Guards Rifle Division Street'' after the war. 23:36: Additionally, the Panzer II had a 20mm kwk or kwk 38 (depending on the model) cannon that had 10-round magazines which in-game fires like a normal tank cannon of a bigger caliber. 31:58: Throughout the entire US campaign, Sgt Randell wears his assault vest even though most soldiers got rid of it ASAP and there is no evidence of anyone wearing them after June 1944. i have a theory for the inaccuracies that start in 5:20, maybe 20 years after the war ended Vasili is looking though his old war stuff? and everytime a mission starts he's just remisnicing his old memories, he never dies in game anyways.
I’ve thought that as well. Either Vasili, Davis, and Taylor are looking back years later. Or there families are looking through their stuff and imagining what they did, which conveniently explains the inaccuracies. Or it could be a museum or war memorabilia collector has the journals.
So he bunched up war objects closely around his diary in different configurations to read each entry? It's more likely that the devs intended to make it look like he was on the go and had just written each entry.
What I like about Cod 1-3 and WAW is the fact that despite the historical inaccuracies (mostly due to the studio's limited budget, technology graphics and resources at the time to develop said games), it still respected the time period it was portraying, and it remained authentic (especially WAW).
@@maximilianodelrioit’s a difference in creative intentions. The games seem to consider themselves as “inspired by history” rather than “based on history”. Rather that creating a story based in reality, they opted for creating their own story featuring only a few key elements of real history.
@@maximilianodelrio developers are not historians.... even now working with historians as advisors is pretty expensive, even back then Wikipedia was even more unreliable than now.
The loading screens with the journals may have some anachronistic items in the background, but i always imagined it was because the protagonist is looking back at their own journal of the war many years later, thus having all of the relics and trophies in the background. Fair point anyway though and good video!
32:44, That phrase, "Retreat? We're Advancing In Another Direction", is similar to General Oliver P. Smith's quote during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir during Korean War in 1950, “Retreat, hell! We're not retreating, we're just advancing in a different direction.”
So I just wanna say, that at least for the American levels, they did actually have a ranger from the period consulting on the game. Which may be why it has less in accuracies than the other levels? Also some are just asset reusing, which I can’t really count against them at this point in the franchise.
@@jeremyscungio16 that was how I rationalized when I was younger. That it was like the truck u steal during the last British mission and they was just always using stolen trucks. Which makes even more sense for the Russians, given how bad their supplies were.
@@nikik5567 Yeah those are my issues with this review to. To many of his "inaccuracies" are mostly game mechanics. Like the reloading of the sten were we reuse the same mag. Thats do to him having the camera further back then he should it was never supposed to go back that far heck push it back further you would see only hands. He also needs to remember the reuse of assets is also a thing in games like the trucks. Also at least they changed the uniforms for the British troops in normandy and they went from using Thompsons to Stens. Also again this game was made in 2005 there were limits in what they could do such as the number of characters on screen.
As a history teacher and gamer who recently found your channel I want to say thank you for making these videos, subscribed after watching the World At War one.
As a change of pace: perhaps you should look at every historical inaccuracy in Battlefield 1. Especially since that game shares a lot of similarities with COD WAW in that while it does contain a fair amount of historical inaccuracies, it makes up for it by giving a very faithful and authentic portrayal of WW1.
As a WW1 enthusiast and BF1 fanboy i think there is soooo many silly things I started laughing when at the end of 1st story we basically have the largest tank battle WW1 haven't ever seen lmao like literally We wight like 20+ tanks if i remember correctly, alone, without any support It's worth mentioning that the devs said themselves that the game isn't authentic, it's "what if... WW1 continued?" but it also as fun with WW1 having more mobile warfare with faster weapons and fast tanks and cars moving quickly on a open fields... of western europe all the experimental guns and silly elite classes are just there for variety I think that BF1 is a pure: somewhat plausible, not very realistic, not authentic but somehow still respectful and with a good taste gun skins are meh... but it's not CoD WW2 multiplayer level of bright pink glitter guns and soldiers wearing grim reaper masks and santa csaul or st patrick clothes.... BF1 as well as BFV are having fun with the medium, it's still not disrespectful if you say "hey, there were minorities in war we ignore" even if they mess up the facts and details. BF1 for me is GOAT for the shear amount of nations invoved in most of WW2 games we see US and Germans, often Soviets and Brits, very rarely italians and japanese, never anyone else... then WW1 Battlefield comes and blasts us with British, American, German, Italian, Ottoman and AustroHungarians, 6 nations in vanilla game and with DLCs they added French and White and Red Russian, and 8 is a lot of nations depicted for a single World War game For me it is super impactful and unique. Show me a AAA FPS game set in WW2 that depicts US, UK, USSR, Germany, Italians, Poles, French, Norwegian and Japanese in a single game.... Anyway, it's not a rant of course, i know BF1 is full of inacuate stuff, i still love it and i still like the idea of mobile fast WW1 If you enjoy authentic/Realistic WW1 games y'all gotta try Verdun, Tannenberg and new game Isonzo, grrrreat games
@@andyfriederichsen yes, very true i checked it long time ago and it is more common to german having semi auto rifles, lmg and smg than bolt action but it's still not as silly as in BFV where units use Class system and you know that this goddamn humble (support class) soldier will carry rare FG42 in north africa, france and norway
@@theodoreroosevelt3143It was disappointing that BFV had 4 nations, not adding the soviets for the female characters to be added instead of adding them to nations that didn't even put women on the frontlines during the war while BF1 gave us 8 nations, kept men as the soldiers and added the troops from the colonies
11:34 Altough you are right about that they should include p38's and other sidearms, the Luger was in production until 1949, in east germany after the war too. They only tried to replace it, but never suceeded in doing so. In 1945 it was still in production. I even read that a large shipment was called back for quality controll in march '45.
27:04 I believe this is because the game was made during the time when 4:3 TVs were much more common so hiding this animation made sense for its time. While 16:9 TVs were around, they weren't as common. Besides this, this was a great video for my first ever CoD game!
No, the real reason is that first person animations were made for "cg_fov 65" (by default on X360), while on PC default cg_fov value is "80" (field of view = 80°)
I also attribute the lack of uniform variation, the same guns being used throughout the campaign and some I repeat some of the incomplete reload animations to it being old as hell and being played on old as hell hardware and devs actually giving a damn about hard drive space
@@ruVlad As much as I like Frosty's videos, he's gotta realise that several of these "inaccuracies" are him not taking into account of context of the time.
It's true. For a long time I had a monitor that supported 1024/768. So the ratio would crop that part out. It make sense that they did this because 3D graphic in video game were very difficult to work with.
6:48 debatable! Many guns from the ww2 era already had feeding problems and mulfunctions due to the magazine: holding the magazine in such way has been shown to not only being fairly common, but also suggested, as it would actually fix some of the feeding problems.
It's kinda funny how many of these can just boil down to resource and engine limitations of the time. Then how depressing it is when you look at the later games that don't have these limitations and all info they need can be instantly obtained.
Okay yeah sure so they have all these stuff now and apparently money and everything and they still can't make a world war II game funny it's called laziness and they're actually dipsh1ts but it's also historically inaccurate that you're a relevant person so who knows
I think the Sten gun's 'reloading same magazine' issue is probably because you're playing in widescreen. In 2005, most people would have still had good old 4:3 CRT TVs, and the magazine would have gone completely off screen.
Hey Frosty 1. Love your inaccuracies vídeos dude, you’re amazing. The amount of research you do for these videos is seriously commendable. Wish you the best of luck and keep this series up 😁😁😁
It's hard to portray it correctly, because IRL when you aim down the sights, rear sight will appear blurred out so much it would be more or less as big as is in game.
@@brianmead7556oh yeah sure definitely that's why a game like easy red 2 can do it with only a small company it's called they're lazy and they don't give a flying f about history
39:05 While you were right on the fact the game should include more common German tanks and Pz IV or V, the appearance of two Tiger tanks in the final mission was actually accurate in terms of deployment. Tigers were used in their own special battalions in concentrated numbers (45 tanks full strength). One platoon of Tigers would be 4 tanks and their smallest tactical unit size was a half-platoon (half-Zug) which was 2 Tigers exactly. So yes, the player's final boss was a half-platoon from a Tiger battalion.
Yeah, this cod just had a panzer 2 but that’s it. The problem is that ww2 fps games only havetiger tanks. I think cod WW2 was the only one who even had panzer 4. Yet still no other cod has introduced panzer 3's or other tanks, especially in missions taking place before tiger
@@SkellyofSkellingtoncod 3 had panzer 4s which was the most common tank axis tank in game, as well as less common appearances of panthers, tigers and a rare appearance of 2 king tigers in 2 seperate missions. In cod 3 multiplayer you could use the panzer 4.
Vasili holding the mp40 that way is fine, it was yes, damaging but you can see many historical photos of german soldiers doing the same, it was down to personel preference on how you held the weapon.
Even though COD2 is my favorite in the franchise and I've played the campaign probably a thousand times, I think it's very important to know where the game and actually history diverge. Thanks for putting this together!
i found this channel about 2 months ago by accident and these have been my favorite videos to watch since. i’ve loved studying WWII since i was little and loved playing Call Of Duty. it’s nice to see this level of depth put into these vids
Call of Duty 3 was also pretty good about the accuracy. Multiple types of German tanks (although every single Allied tank is a Firefly or Stuart...), numerous types of units and uniforms for both sides, and it seems to do pretty well with places and dates.
Blitzkrieg 2 had you fight the Romanians as the Soviets in one of Chapter 3's missions. Also, said game had you (as the Germans) protecting and assisting your Italian allies in several missions during Chapter 2 of the German campaign.
7:54 As far as I know, the only WW2 game set on the Eastern Front where we fight soldiers from the minor Axis countries is Men of War Assault Squad 2. 14:59 Funnily enough, the Big Red One expansion for this game has levels where you fight Vichy French and Italian troops. 27:32 Ah yes, the famous Hermann Goering diet.
The only game (so far) that has many minor WW2 nations (Romania, Hungary, Finland, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, even Baltics, Greeks and Belgians) is Steel Division 2
The big one is that the Panzer 2 doesn't have an autocannon. Pretty big oversight there. It's one thing to not include Panzer 3's or 4's at all, but forgetting the Panzer 2 had a squeezy boi on top is pretty big.
Few more misstakes in game: Panzerkampfwagen II had 20 mm kwk 30 or kwk 38 (depend's on model) that had 10 rounds magazine, while in game it fires like normal tank cannon of bigger caliber Same goes for Sd. Kfz. 222 in African missions, but there its 20 mm kwk 30 or kwk 38 fires like machineguns
An interesting detail is the that at the beginning of the Pointe Du Hoc mission, you can hear a voice with an English accent wishing you luck before the landing. Like you said in the Cod WW2 mission, most of the Landing craft drivers were Royal Marines, so they got that right atleast
Probably the three most common problems with WW2 games: 1. Almost always set in late war 2. If it is set early in the war, it is unwilling to commit, featuring plenty of late war equipment 3. No featuring any countries aside from the big five, especially for the Axis
The reason behind the first problem is simply that in the early years of WW2 Germany had the initiative and the Allies were getting beaten. Unless you create missions in which you are retreating and getting defeated (thus controlling units from France, Benelux, Scandinavia, Russians in the early months of Barbarossa, Yugoslavia, etc) the only way to portray 1939-1941 is to create a Nazi Germany campaign. Which for a big brand like Activision could be deemed as very very controversial, especially in these times...
I always interpreted the loading screens as taking place a considerable amount of time after the war. It could be a relative of the character reading their journals decades after the fact after finding them in storage alongside their awards and spoils of war.
The Bren gun does have two different reload animations for empty and not, however, it actually shouldn't. Like the Thompson's stick mags, the Bren gun mags have a bolt hold open feature.
5:24 I think it would make more sense that the mission loading screens are from 1945 when the war ended, and they just display diary entries from the course of the war. Ot makes sense to have late war products on the loading screens.
Good video! It’d be cool to see something like this for Call of Duty 2: Big Red One, a spin-off title of CoD 2. I think you’d be pleased to know that, unlike actual Call of Duty 2, the missions in Africa have Italian enemies. If I remember correctly, you even fight Vichy French enemies at some point in the campaign. It would also be especially interesting to see how accurate the game is since it explicitly follows the U.S. 1st Infantry Division.
Dude, I wish you'd drop this CinemaSins method of doing inaccuracies. Inaccuracies shouldn't be deducted for doing something right or nichely interesting but instead just tracked separately. And pointing out clear glitches or an oversight due to gameplay (or God forbid a joke) shouldn't be counted towards inaccuracies either.
Thank you, someone understands. That's what annoys me sometimes while I'm watching his content: He points out shit that could have a very good reason for why they went the way they did. If he wants to make inaccuracy videos like this, he needs to overloook technical issues (Complaining about Sten reload just using same clip even though that's just him putting the FOV slider up too high), remembering context for certain "inaccuracies" beforehand (Maybe they couldn't render 200 different uniforms/faces cause PCs at the time might have trouble rendering them all) and he needs to stop looking at it from modern hindsight.
Recently finished playing COD 2, and I really liked the desperation of the defending missions, from Pointe de Hoc to Hill 400. Also appreciate your series on the historical inaccuracy of games. Been hooked to them ever since and have been waiting for more
Correction (But correct me if I'm wrong): World War 2 submachine guns are actually held by the magazine as SMGs from that time actually have feeding issues that can be solved by holding the SMG by the magazine.
I like this videos, however, it is important to keep in mind that lot of these inaccuracies doesn't come from lazyness or ignorancy, which seems to be more case of Black Ops. But even in BO, devs are working with what they have. Those videos have great educational value, but what people might overlook is how devs are creatively using their limited resources to portrait what they want. After all, no matter how inaccurate those games are, they still stand out for having great "era" vibe.
Yeah, that's what annoys me sometimes while watching his videos: He points out things that could have a very good reason for why they went the way they did. If he wants to make inaccuracy videos like this, he needs to remember context beforehand and stop looking at it from modern hindsight (otherwise, he's gonna go the way of CinemaSins).
@@RevanNaut You're exactly right. This game required 4GB of space which was massive at the time. In those days I only had 60GBS of hard drive space. So, if I wanted all the games to enjoy I had to uninstall and install so many time. I had serious patience for it. So, in the video he expressed how there should be other variation of guns and vehicle he had seemly no idea that the game was big enough already.

Ok, there are a ton of arbitrary “inaccuracies” in this video. The defensive hand grenades that the Soviets use would absolutely be used by soldiers in both offensive and defensive operations if they were issued them. It’s the same reason why you see tons of ‘egg’ grenades that German soldiers have in photographs despite it being a defensive grenade. The m43 uniforms would totally be accurate in Normandy in large numbers. The designation ‘M43’ is a collectors coined term and only reflected the timeframe in which they would have started to appear during the war as the German military never formalized numbering their uniform production until they created the ‘M44’ uniform known then as the ‘Feldbluse 1944’. Also, greatcoats are totally accurate for June 1944 in France, there are tons of photos of Germans wearing them in POW pictures. The weather in Normandy was in the mid to upper 50s in June 1944… I enjoy the content, but a lot of these inaccuracies aren’t exactly that well researched. Cheers

there is a historical inaccuracy that you missed, on the opel blitz trucks, there is a yellow triangle on top of the roof, this was used only for opel blitz's that where at the lead of a convoy, however in the game every single opel blitz truck has this triangle on their roof
Some of these inaccuracies, while valid, you just have to overlook due to it being a video game. Like the red barrels. Or due to it being so old and there being hardware limitations. Like the ammo not being in mags or reload animations being the same
Most of those points are just for making controversy and clicks for the video.. (it its the same as cinema sins...) author forgot game is from 2005 and that engines and companies had big limitations... Games are also art.. the same as movies etc.. when I want to have MG42 in Stalingrad in 1941 from artistic reasons, I will definitely use it as a developer no matter what historians thinks ;)

Some of the inaccuracies I’d argue are from this game being made in the early/mid 2000’s when video games were just starting to take off in technology. Certain features such as deployable heavy machine guns by the player were not common practice at the time. Animations may look inaccurate from the display settings of monitors at the time. Keep in mind that COD at this time was not mainstream in popularity during this time period until they released MW4 in 2007. So I’d argue some sacrifices of accuracy had to be made to reuse models for time sake. If I recall correctly, this was the first time COD introduced the player carrying just two weapons instead of a whole 4-5 weapons at once. Taking cover to regain health was also a new system for COD in this game. Running was only in United Offensive but was blinded to the Alt button and was not seen until MW4. Just goes to show how far gaming has gone just from the past 20 years.
I think the sten reloading because you’re zoomed out and you’re not supposed to see that. Honestly yeah a lot of it is inaccurate but some I have to believe is they didn’t have the time to make everything unique and had to reuse assets to help ease development. I don’t really know what development was like so don’t take my word for it, but it is common. Besides, still better than vanguard. Gameplay and story wise
13:21 Not only Soviet soldiers, why would British or American or just any other soldiers use two words consisting of five syllables total ("Potato masher!") instead of using just one word consisting of two syllables ("Grenade!") to warn their fellow soldiers of danger in the heat of battle? It just makes no sense and it always ground my gears when I was playing the game.
When i was younger i was obsessed by the battle of el alamein and the africa campaigns in general i had even models of the battle and a diorama and such i made an entire north african city with stuart tanks with the hexagon turrets and m3 grants with crusaders facing german panzer 2s, 3s, and few panzer 4s also with some italian armour It is amazing that you clear this up Thank you a lot
9:13 a small detail but there is a Mauser produced Gewehr 41 and a Walther produced Gewehr 41, the Mauser version had a system where it could be fired in bolt action or semi auto. The Mauser production followed all of the rules that the German government had set for the contract where the Walther production didn‘t, the Walther production won the contract because it ended up being better for infantry use and cheaper to produce.
"Captain Price's beret" Well, that's a name you probably never expected to say in the Inaccuracies series due to the fact Price is more well known from the original Modern Warfare Trilogy. Wonder how you'd even cover the OG MW Trilogy outside of comparing the events in their retrospective years to their respective years events that happened IRL, as COD 4 despite being released in 2007 is set in 2011 as well as Saudi Arabia for the Arab missions, and MW 2 released in 2009 & 3 released in 2011 are both set in 2016 with the final mission in MW3 taking place in January of 2017.
Just recently left the 75th Ranger Regiment, 2nd Ranger Battalion Best job i ever had. Also, E company of 2nd Ranger batt did in fact clear out bergsten village prior tot he assault For anyone that doesn’t know the history of hill 400, I HIGHLY recommend reading it, absolutely wild and the real defense contains moments that people would scoff at for being too unbelievable if put in a movie.
23:07 Like the Thompson, the Bren also has a bolt hold-open, meaning that only the magazines have to be swapped for firing to continue and no charging of the weapon is necessary. I'll put a link to Bloke on the Range and his video on the subject. You'll see this in action at the 13:18 mark. ruclips.net/video/LLd0Px2Q8E0/видео.html
Are you gonna make a video on back2fronts mod? A mod wich fixes 90% of these inaccuracies, in the same way you made a video on WaW's mods that fixed its historical inaccuracies?
Man I remember when this game came out, and my PC could barely handle United Offensive at that time. This game compared to that looked like hyperrealism cranked up to 11. Now looking at it, I had to stop the video and look at the title several times, because I was convinced that this was Call of Duty 1 based on the graphics. It's crazy how time flies and how much you fail to recognize of it.
i remember being very young, around 7/8 and playing call of duty 2 : big red one with my brother who was slightly older. i still play pc games with him today, and im 21. Im sure this COD game turned me into a gamer at a young age
I hate how these videos kinda nitpick and include just general flubs that aren't *historical* inaccuracies, but otherwise they are very entertaining! Keep it up!!

@RevanNaut In his CoD ww2 video one of the "inaccuracies" was literally just an animation oversight where the field guns are loaded with no rounds actually being seen. That's just an animation goof, not a historical error
Bro I’m gonna say this now this man will find anything and everything not historically correct or accurate like just damn even the direction the player was facing I’m surprised he isn’t part of a developing team to make a WW2 game
Even with these inaccuracies, it's still enjoyable for having both seriousness and funny moments from all three fronts, like the potato scene in the first mission in the Eastern Front.
1:50 Also, as stated in the Vanguard video IIRC (maybe it was WAW? I don't recall), during World War II, pistols were held with one hand. Additionally, the "teacup pose" being used here is not recommended
Im sure ive said this in a previous video. But i'll say it again. I want a WW2 game that follows not an individual soldier, but rather a whole unit or multiple units through the war. I would prefer to see a German campaign where you can hear and see the way the war changed them. From optimistic during a Poland campaign, to cocky and feeling superhuman during France (for historical reasons 😉). To a paradrop mission for Norway, encircling of Dunkirk, fighting in North Africa, Greece, fighting through the whole of the Eastern Front (maybe a few missions apart of each Army Group?) instead of just Stalingrad. To then seeing desperation, the German army's struggle as they took loss after loss, falling back, holding back the D-Day landings only to not have the resources to keep fighting, using outdated weapons as new guns were scarce, young boys and old men filling out the ranks as the war went on, hearing and seeing the other Axis powers fighting and helping. To eventually as the Allies and Soviets reached Germany proper, the fear, loss, and fanaticism of the Germans to the bitter end. I understand modern audiences will be in awe of playing a German soldier of WW2, but we need to see their side too, yes they were the bad guys and did atrocities, dont be allowed to commit any as apart of gameplay, but cutscenes implying something happened, or the final cutscene of the game now doing a retelling and the atrocities the Nazis commited, so much so many German soldiers didnt know of. We can have missions like the Battle of Castle Itter, or various sides of German soldiers not being just stereotypical bad guys. World War II deserves to see all sides and points of view. It is what shaped the world today, and the more other sides are ignored, the more we dishonor those who perished and never saw the other side.
Really like it. Do you think you'll ever do a video covering Big Red One? From what I understand, it was the last time the COD series actually cared about historical accuracy.
I have to say, in defense of this game, that Point du hoc missions very accurately represents the place. I visited Point du hoc one summer many years ago and I was able to move around very easily thanks to the missions.
The main reason the locations make little sense name wise is because IW just made the level they wanted and then came out with story after. even if its based on WW2 there pretty random in location and names.
Not quite for the MG42. Some early prototypes were sent out for field testing in Moscow, Leningrad, these had an MG34 style charging handle made of wood.
i have been playing this game for 10 years and i never thought game had this many historical Inaccuracies, still its absolutely one of most iconic games in the gaming history
I love your COD historical inaccuracies videos. And if I could suggest you some future video ideas. Instead of historical period COD games, maybe you can cover some inaccurate military gear usage in modern COD games (the original Modern Warfare series and even the rebooted MW ones too), because some weapons used in those games don't match up with their belligerents (Russian VDV troops using Tavors? I dunno, maybe it just seems a bit harsh to be roasting a game that was made with a ridiculous amount of technical limitations for it's era. So realism measures and the like just weren't plausible.
That's what annoys me sometimes while I'm watching his content: He points out shit that could have a very good reason for why they went the way they did.
Okay yeah sure so how about vanguard oh wait that game is irrelevant just like your comment it's called historical inaccuracies you can put the time into something that you genuinely care about but hey if you want to make money sure keep on sending out s*** just like your comment
this game is actually really detailed. the way the soldiers hold their guns with their arms so they can warm up their hands, how that one guy swung the door open. how you can see their breaths in the cold. i was shocked, i thought such an old game would be primitive, but it has more work and passion in it than most of the newer games(in regards to realism)
Nice compilation. However, the point about unit insignias on half-tracks was a bit off the mark. Armoured half-tracks such as the SdKfz 251 were strictly reserved to mechanized formations (in which they were chronically in short supply). It is highly unlikely that you could find an infantry division such as the 71st or 352nd sporting these vehicles, let alone the 709th ID which was a static division. So rather than just the unit insignia, the issue is the overall presence of such vehicles in described situations.
Though you listed hundreds of mistakes in cod ww2 and cod world at war . They are 1 billion times better than cod ww2 and especially notorious Vanguard. They were made at times when technology was not as high as today but then to they are a more accurate picture of hostility of war comparing to today's game that mainly focuses on money making
To be fair the medals in the loading screen may not be that inaccurate, the missions descriptions are given in a diary, possibly implying the loading screen is set post war
On Hill 400, Mustangs weren’t used, your right, However… P47s were used. My Evidence comes from a video of a Member Of the 2nd Rangers (Bud Potratz) And there was only a few men to support them because Some of the rangers were sent at the bottom of the Hill to make sure that the Germans 2 counter Offensives couldnt break through to capture the hill! Also another Inaccuracy is that there were not MG Nests at the hill. Irl, there was. Mg spots/ Nests were located at the bottom of each side of the Hill

_____Corrections_____
3:18: These are actually AN-M8 smoke grenades, not M18 smoke grenades.
7:09: The picture on the right is not a PPSh-41 but of another variant.
6:42: The term ''magazine clip'' is not accurate as magazines and clips are not the same thing.
10:15: The Fw 200 was actually used as a transport aircraft, notably flying supplies into Stalingrad.
_____Extra Inaccuracies_____
1:36: The Mosin Nagant in game appears to be modeled on the M38 Carbine version which were primarily given to gun-crews and non front-line combatants, it should be the standard issue M91/30 Mosin Nagant instead.

Interesting theory
So he bunched up war objects closely around his diary in different configurations to read each entry? It's more likely that the devs intended to make it look like he was on the go and had just written each entry.
As much as i would want this to be true, I don't think that civilians could own personal weapons.
@@_0_restart_0_ Do you expect the devs to be aware of such details?
What I like about Cod 1-3 and WAW is the fact that despite the historical inaccuracies (mostly due to the studio's limited budget, technology graphics and resources at the time to develop said games), it still respected the time period it was portraying, and it remained authentic (especially WAW).
What I don't get about some inaccuracies is that theyre so hard to get wrong, things like dates, units, locations etc that are really easy to check
Yeah, the uniform inaccuracies are pretty minor. Even the smoke grenade ones. I feel like they just didn’t want to add in new animations

32:44, That phrase, "Retreat? We're Advancing In Another Direction", is similar to General Oliver P. Smith's quote during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir during Korean War in 1950, “Retreat, hell! We're not retreating, we're just advancing in a different direction.”
I get it. Because they're surrounded.
So I just wanna say, that at least for the American levels, they did actually have a ranger from the period consulting on the game. Which may be why it has less in accuracies than the other levels? Also some are just asset reusing, which I can’t really count against them at this point in the franchise.
My head canon is the war was tough and they used stolen trucks
@@jeremyscungio16 that was how I rationalized when I was younger. That it was like the truck u steal during the last British mission and they was just always using stolen trucks. Which makes even more sense for the Russians, given how bad their supplies were.

He also needs to remember the reuse of assets is also a thing in games like the trucks.
Battlefield 1 would be a great game for frosty to make a video on.
As a WW1 enthusiast and BF1 fanboy i think there is soooo many silly things
I started laughing when at the end of 1st story we basically have the largest tank battle WW1 haven't ever seen lmao
like literally We wight like 20+ tanks if i remember correctly, alone, without any support
It's worth mentioning that the devs said themselves that the game isn't authentic, it's "what if... WW1 continued?"
but it also as fun with WW1 having more mobile warfare with faster weapons and fast tanks and cars moving quickly on a open fields... of western europe
all the experimental guns and silly elite classes are just there for variety
I think that BF1 is a pure: somewhat plausible, not very realistic, not authentic but somehow still respectful and with a good taste
gun skins are meh... but it's not CoD WW2 multiplayer level of bright pink glitter guns and soldiers wearing grim reaper masks and santa csaul or st patrick clothes....
BF1 as well as BFV are having fun with the medium, it's still not disrespectful if you say "hey, there were minorities in war we ignore"
even if they mess up the facts and details.
BF1 for me is GOAT for the shear amount of nations invoved
in most of WW2 games we see US and Germans, often Soviets and Brits, very rarely italians and japanese, never anyone else...
then WW1 Battlefield comes and blasts us with British, American, German, Italian, Ottoman and AustroHungarians, 6 nations in vanilla game
and with DLCs they added French and White and Red Russian, and 8 is a lot of nations depicted for a single World War game
For me it is super impactful and unique.
Show me a AAA FPS game set in WW2 that depicts US, UK, USSR, Germany, Italians, Poles, French, Norwegian and Japanese in a single game....
Anyway, it's not a rant of course, i know BF1 is full of inacuate stuff, i still love it and i still like the idea of mobile fast WW1
If you enjoy authentic/Realistic WW1 games y'all gotta try Verdun, Tannenberg and new game Isonzo, grrrreat games
Bolt-action rifles are rare as hell in that game's campaign.
@@andyfriederichsen yes, very true
i checked it long time ago and it is more common to german having semi auto rifles, lmg and smg than bolt action but it's still not as silly as in BFV where units use Class system and you know that this goddamn humble (support class) soldier will carry rare FG42 in north africa, france and norway

Widescreens were common during that time. It's the fov settings.

While you were right on the fact the game should include more common German tanks and Pz IV or V, the appearance of two Tiger tanks in the final mission was actually accurate in terms of deployment.

I think Call of Duty 2: Big Red One might have shown the most respect to history. Besides the Germans you also fight Italians and Vichy French.
Call of Duty 3 was also pretty good about the accuracy. Multiple types of German tanks (although every single Allied tank is a Firefly or Stuart...), numerous types of units and uniforms for both sides, and it seems to do pretty well with places and dates.

27:32 Ah yes, the famous Hermann Goering diet.

Blitzkrieg 2 also has a mission where you fight Romanians during the events of Operation Blue

cod 3,finest hour and cod waw final front too
The only game (so far) that has many minor WW2 nations (Romania, Hungary, Finland, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, even Baltics, Greeks and Belgians) is Steel Division 2
The big one is that the Panzer 2 doesn't have an autocannon. Pretty big oversight there. It's one thing to not include Panzer 3's or 4's at all, but forgetting the Panzer 2 had a squeezy boi on top is pretty big.
While yes, the 20mm gun on the Pz. IIs were not squeezebore
Few more misstakes in game:
Panzerkampfwagen II had 20 mm kwk 30 or kwk 38 (depend's on model) that had 10 rounds magazine, while in game it fires like normal tank cannon of bigger caliber
Same goes for Sd.
You missed one: the M1 Carbine is modeled with the 4-hole handguard, however that handguard was only introduced after the war ended.
Probably the three most common problems with WW2 games:
1. Almost always set in late war
2. If it is set early in the war, it is unwilling to commit, featuring plenty of late war equipment
The weather in Normandy was in the mid to upper 50s in June 1944…

Bro it's CoD 4: Modern Warfare
Not MW4 LMFAO
I think the sten reloading because you’re zoomed out and you’re not supposed to see that.
Honestly yeah a lot of it is inaccurate but some I have to believe is they didn’t have the time to make everything unique and had to reuse assets to help ease development.
I don’t really know what development was like so don’t take my word for it, but it is common.
Besides, still better than vanguard. Gameplay and story wise
That's what annoys me sometimes while watching his videos: He points out things that could have a very good reason for why they went the way they did.
As great as this guy is, these should all be "Historical Inaccuracies", not "EVERY Inaccuracy"
13:21 Not only Soviet soldiers, why would British or American or just any other soldiers use two words consisting of five syllables total ("Potato masher!") instead of using just one word consisting of two syllables ("Grenade!") to warn their fellow soldiers of danger in the heat of battle? It just makes no sense and it always ground my gears when I was playing the game.
i like how you put up the meaning of the popularly misunderstood word `anachranistic` good job as always frosty one!
When i was younger i was obsessed by the battle of el alamein and the africa campaigns in general i had even models of the battle and a diorama and such i made an entire north african city with stuart tanks with the hexagon turrets and m3 grants with crusaders facing german panzer 2s, 3s, and few panzer 4s also with some italian armour
It is amazing that you clear this up
Thank you a lot
18:46 you perfectly describe majority of Hell Let Loose players
9:13 a small detail but there is a Mauser produced Gewehr 41 and a Walther produced Gewehr 41, the Mauser version had a system where it could be fired in bolt action or semi auto. The Mauser production followed all of the rules that the German government had set for the contract where the Walther production didn‘t, the Walther production won the contract because it ended up being better for infantry use and cheaper to produce.
Despite me not wanting to go into a career of wartime history, I always loved history. It was my favorite class behind biology class.
"Captain Price's beret"
Well, that's a name you probably never expected to say in the Inaccuracies series due to the fact Price is more well known from the original Modern Warfare Trilogy.
Just recently left the 75th Ranger Regiment, 2nd Ranger Battalion
Best job i ever had.
Also, E company of 2nd Ranger batt did in fact clear out bergsten village prior tot he assault
For anyone that doesn’t know the history of hill 400, I HIGHLY recommend reading it, absolutely wild and the real defense contains moments that people would scoff at for being too unbelievable if put in a movie.
5:23 this could possibly mean the diary is prior and the person looking at the diary is readingbit again
I think us being able to see the stein reusing the same mag is due to the FOV being more open then the console FOV it was made for.
The fact you know alot of these facts is both incredible and scary XD awesome vid btw
i remember being very young, around 7/8 and playing call of duty 2 : big red one with my brother who was slightly older. i still play pc games with him today, and im 21. Im sure this COD game turned me into a gamer at a young age
I hate how these videos kinda nitpick and include just general flubs that aren't *historical* inaccuracies, but otherwise they are very entertaining! Keep it up!!
Yeah, that's what annoys me sometimes while watching his videos: He points out things that could have a very good reason for why they went the way they did.
If he wants to make inaccuracy videos like this, he needs to remember context for certain "inaccuracies" beforehand (Complaining about Sten reload just using same clip even though that's just him putting the FOV slider up too high) and stop looking at it from modern hindsight (otherwise, he's gonna go the way of CinemaSins).
@RevanNaut In his CoD ww2 video one of the "inaccuracies" was literally just an animation oversight where the field guns are loaded with no rounds actually being seen. That's just an animation goof, not a historical error
3:29 i like how he took an image off enlisted very good game
Bro, if I was at war and captured an enemy song book that'd be cool as shit! Excellent primary source document and prime joke material for the boys!
Bro I’m gonna say this now this man will find anything and everything not historically correct or accurate like just damn even the direction the player was facing I’m surprised he isn’t part of a developing team to make a WW2 game
I wouldn't but any games made by him
Even with these inaccuracies, it's still enjoyable for having both seriousness and funny moments from all three fronts, like the potato scene in the first mission in the Eastern Front.
"The darkly humorous potato-throwing grenade tutorial" - Edge Magazine about Call of Duty 2
1:50 Also, as stated in the Vanguard video IIRC (maybe it was WAW? I don't recall), during World War II, pistols were held with one hand. Additionally, the "teacup pose" being used here is not recommended
27:40 you did say "Unless we are fighting some overweight German Soldiers" in COD WW2 so that explains that answer
31:53 that Sherman hull is bouncing every shot it's hilarious
Men of War Assault Squad 2, Company of Heroes 1 (RTS Games) or Call of Duty 2 Mod Back2Front (FPS Game)
There is bfv's last tiger campaign, but that’s the closest we can get unfortunately
I know it's just a sponsor.. but I can't help but find it hysterical how the sponsor 'World of Tanks' also features a ton of innaccuracy in itself :P
WoT is not a singleplayer game and has no story wise historical boundaries.
The irony of being sponsored by world of tanks on a video about historical accuracy
Money is money
Really like it. Do you think you'll ever do a video covering Big Red One? From what I understand, it was the last time the COD series actually cared about historical accuracy.
Your historical inaccuracy videos are awesome. You should cover the singleplayer war stories from Battlefield 1 and Battlefield V next. :)
Great channel, you have an insane amount of knowledge, great work!
I have to say, in defense of this game, that Point du hoc missions very accurately represents the place.
I visited Point du hoc one summer many years ago and I was able to move around very easily thanks to the missions.
RLTW
Same here, visiting the real life location was a fascinating time :)
7:10 CHECKMATE, Mr. Accuracy! That’s not PPSh-41 in the picture on the right that’s a Suomi KP/31😊
Maybe a PPD-40/38?
@@SrhnsfskztxzfYeah it actually looks like the PPD, and it doesn't matter since the Wehrmacht used all 3 submachine guns
That is a PPD40 not a KP/31
I'd love to see the inaccuracies of my childhood classic: Call of Duty 2: Big Red One (absolutely separate game from CoD II)
This game was my childhood
I love your COD historical inaccuracies videos. And if I could suggest you some future video ideas. Instead of historical period COD games, maybe you can cover some inaccurate military gear usage in modern COD games (the original Modern Warfare series and even the rebooted MW ones too), because some weapons used in those games don't match up with their belligerents (Russian VDV troops using Tavors? Lol), and it's been driving me crazy for years! Thanks again, love your vids.
*criticises a game for historical inaccuracy*
*Promoted a game with even worse historical inaccuracy*
Also 26:00 Wittmann was a complete fraud of an ace.
31:34 The Webley's empty casings should also eject automatically when the weapon is opened.
Do you think you could review the inaccuracies of Battlefield 1?
Nice compilation. However, the point about unit insignias on half-tracks was a bit off the mark. Armoured half-tracks such as the SdKfz 251 were strictly reserved to mechanized formations (in which they were chronically in short supply). It is highly unlikely that you could find an infantry division such as the 71st or 352nd sporting these vehicles, let alone the 709th ID which was a static division. So rather than just the unit insignia, the issue is the overall presence of such vehicles in described situations.
Most of the inaccuracies are technical rather than historical ones
Though you listed hundreds of mistakes in cod ww2 and cod world at war . They are 1 billion times better than cod ww2 and especially notorious Vanguard. They were made at times when technology was not as high as today but then to they are a more accurate picture of hostility of war comparing to today's game that mainly focuses on money making
To be fair the medals in the loading screen may not be that inaccurate, the missions descriptions are given in a diary, possibly implying the loading screen is set post war
Maybe you can do every historically inaccuracy of world of tanks lmao
On Hill 400, Mustangs weren’t used, your right, However… P47s were used.
My Evidence comes from a video of a Member Of the 2nd Rangers (Bud Potratz)
And there was only a few men to support them because Some of the rangers were sent at the bottom of the Hill to make sure that the Germans 2 counter Offensives couldnt break through to capture the hill!
Also another Inaccuracy is that there were not MG Nests at the hill.
Irl, there was. Mg spots/ Nests were located at the bottom of each side of the Hill
