- Listen To These Locomotives Growling Up The Hill & Watch A Train Ease Down With Epic Train Horn Salute! 3 Trains Going Up The Hill Working Hard, 3 Trains With DPU Locomotives. These trains are in Crescent Springs, Kentucky on the Norfolk Southern Rat Hole Line. We have a local switching freight train running long hood forward as it heads up the hill to do some railroad switching in Erlanger. We have a steel coils unit train heading up on the sharp curves next to the free library.
A couple of the trains going down the hill were just as awesome as the trains going up. The first one gave me an excellent "Shave And A Haircut" just after they passed me. One of the trains going down went right under me and had a mid train DPU. The bridge I was on is a must see spot for railfans. Two tracks are right under it and you can feel the heat from the locomotives.
My favorite train in this video is the last one. I caught it going under the pedestrian bridge on the sharp "S" curves. Listen to the locomotives working hard and sanding the rails. The DPU was pretty impressive also. While that train was passing me another train was going down and passed it right there in front of me. I finally got lucky and got a few trains going up the hill that were working hard. Which train was your favourite ? Do you know of any hills like this one that I can film?
I just noticed that this video is on RUclips in 720p. It was downloaded in 1080p so I don't know what happened. This is the video that I accidentally posted about a week ago and then took it down. I redownloaded it onto my computer and onto RUclips so it should be considered a new video. It should have come out in 1080p. Can anyone tell the difference?
Filmed Friday, April 14, 2023 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

Great video and God bless from GA and stay safe
Morning JT. Thanks again for sharing. God bless you and your family 🙏 🙏 ❤️
Those train crews probably ask each other if they will see you somewhere recording during their shift. Thumbs up.
I always wonder how many of them recognise me. Quite a few railroaders watch my videos
Good video Jawtooth
Thanks James!
This is the video from last weekend that you pulled down while I was watching it at about the 15 minute mark. I couldn't figure out why you pulled it down.
You are a nice entertainer, explaining the odd things we are about to watch. Thanks very much, Jaw Tooth for our DDoT. Enjoy your weekend!
Awesome 😊
I like the shots from the bridge. It's cool I like to see what if anything is in the gondolas. And it's always a plus to catch a DPU 😊😊.
Thanks for watching !
Great horn salute
I love it when they do that
That was quite the load of coils. Movin' out, too.❤
thanks for watching !
Today was really cranking out the merchandise Freight. Somewhat rare to see no Intermodal but you could probably set your watch to the steel coil train. Quite a number of new or repainted cars plus that unusual load of Steel wire on the bulkhead flat on a freight led by a recent DC to AC conversion. Another great day Trackside with.JT. hopefully that area survives the next few days and that the Ohio River stays within its banks
Thanks for watching !
Too bad you couldn't get all of both trains. It was no easy task getting that long load up the hill. Thank goodness for the DPU! 😊😊 And what a nice day for filming. ❤ Thank you 👍😊.
Thanks for watching !
Awesome salute from the first train. You probably would have got a salute from the 2nd, the local, too had he not been whistling for the crossing. And a meet, too. Great catches JT. Thanks.
On that bridge were signs of vandalism and general slobby attitude in dropping trash 👍
Kids
Awesome catches JT, thanks for such a great video. 👍👌😇
Thanks!
Goodmorning Jaw Tooth, great to see you out & about filming a powerful train, thanks for the great catch, see ya again real soon!!
Thanks and greetings to you!
Wow on the NS the ditch lights where so close together lol it looked kinda funny😂
Thanks for watching !
Nice ❤️ 👌 👍 3 start the weekend with great 👍 👌 train video
Good Morning Everyone. Great video as always Sir! Love all your videos.
Good Morning 🌅🌄
Thanks and greetings to you also!
A great video today. Plenty of action. Enjoy the weekend, and see you on the next! Cheers Brian! 🙂👍🇺🇸
Three cheers for the Loco driver "shave and a haircut" horn salute. 👍
That was cool! Thanks for watching !
I call this video PJTR - “Precision Jaw Tooth Railroading.” 👍
Cool
Nice video of Norfolk Southern trains on the Hill in Crescent Springs, Kentucky, Jaw Tooth! That was a great horn salute you received from the first train. Thank you for going back to Crescent Springs, Kentucky on 14 April 2023 to capture these trains.
Terrific coverage of the train action on the hill... Cool stuff !!!
Thanks!
Magnificent catches of the train coming by and pass, I like it 5 stars, keep up the great work, my friend, Greetings from Portugal to the USA.
Man, I agree totally. Jaw Tooth is spoiling us every time he uploads a video.
Great videos enjoyed them greatly thank you keep up the great job
Thanks for watching ! I really appreciate your comments and have a great weekend!
@@JawTooth no problem, Brian, keep it up, my friend.
Well deserved EPIC HORN SALUTE! HELL YEAH! 😂 13:45 Flange greaser working overtime.
Thanks for watching!
Love it when you catch an EMD leading!! Many thanks!!
Merci beaucoup pour cette très belle vidéo ! ✨🚂✨👍🙏
I believe that 2nd train does a lot of switching on the spur where the old shoe fly used to be. There are several businesses there with sidings and it takes quite a while to get the switching done (they pick up loaded cars at the same time).
Interesting! I knew they do switching on the line but didn't know exactly where. That spur is really interesting also because of how steep it is. It has a dip that goes down and back up.
Interesting to see the BNSF locomotives! I just put out two videos on the BNSF derailment here in Wisconsin here some of the cars fell in the Mississippi River and the containers they were carrying floated away! There was water on both sides of the track, so they've been working for two days now to fill--in an area with boulders - hundreds and hundreds of truck loads - so they can move the cars off of the tracks!
Jhhhjkkk
Awesome video keep up with a great work and be safe out there.
Wow awesome horn salute 💪💪
I enjoy the shirt of the day almost as much as the trains of the day! Thanks, Jaw Tooth.
Lol, I need to get some new ones. Chessie put holes in a few of them. Sometimes I put them on a chair and Chessie will lay by the chair and chew on the shirt. Lol
Hey Jaw Tooth,
More great footage of trains on
the tracks going back and forth
just like watching a parade of
trains for train enthusiasts and
watching them roll on down the
tracks is very relaxing to those
who just like the trains.
Thank You for your videos and
until your next one Take Care
Jaw Tooth. 👍

Loved Norfolk Southern #4545 fresh paint job 😂❤ the trailing DPU was Norfolk Southern #3660, thanks for spotting the build date on the Norfolk Southern coil car " BLT 12-2022".🚦📸🌎🗽
Good Saturday morning JT
Greetings Mark!
So awesome seeing trains battling the hill, upgrade or down , although I prefer upgrade. Seeing that one lHF local brings back memories of the N&W and southern RR. And that bridge needs a little TLC. Thanks JT.
Really great show today 😮.
Thanks!
that DPU is a distributed braking unit!!! He'll be in full dynamics for extra braking power descending the hill!!!
JAW TOOTH, you could say three trains working their caboose off.....but they don't have a caboose 🤪👀🤪
That long hood forward unit made me think of one of the oldest Trains Magazines I got from a family friend when I was a little kid. It featured the N&W's "new" SD45s with their flared radiators running long hood forward. They called them "hammerheads." This GE unit looks even more like a hammerhead shark running long hood forward. Also learned about N&W's and Southern's preference for high short hoods from that magazine.
Train’s Magazine is my favorite magazine. I bet I have that issue. Been subscribed since the 70s. I love seeing them long hood forward. When I was younger my friends and I would call each other hammer head sharks. Lol
@@FabianDiazTrainsTrucksNCars I wish I knew how it happened though. Somehow when I redownloaded it I messed up.
I do enjoy your video's and slide show, oh yes the pets "2"😊
Superb video on the hill thanks jaw tooth
Awesome action on the hill. Excellent video, appreciate it much!
I'm happy I haven't gotten stuck on that hill yet😂 that hill is no joke coming up it!
Great video have a blessed day
Awesome video again, caught alot of trains.
😊wow that train with the steel rolls with two engines one of the back on at the front, even though it was short it great.. also, the last one with the lead unit 4646 - shiny paint job- coming up the hill great sound thanks for the effort JT..
Great video Brian!
Amazing videos Jaw Tooth keep up the good work
Awesome video JT!!!
Nice one !!
Great catches JT!
Thanks !
Good morn I enjoyed the video👍👍
Congrats on getting your RUclips Award ! 🎉
You don’t often see unit coil trains. 👍
Nice shirt JT.
Mike on WWoT is probably green with envy about all of your train meets!
Lol, I doubt it. He gets a lot of them. I'm still planning on visiting with him to film some trains
great train video bro 💖💖❤❤
Great video sir! It’s kind of sad whenever you see people or see property that doesn’t belong to others, destroyed. Unfortunately though that’s the world we live in today. 🤦♂️
Great job as usual Jaw Tooth loved the hill climbers!
Jaw tooth wow that's nice go too train museum and cool filmied trains ❤ 😊
Thanks for watching !
I love these, keep them coming
Nice Video
Great camera work up there on that bridge
Two trains at once is both awesome because of the noise of two trains, but also frustrating because one of them will be blocked!
Nice video and nice catch jaw tooth
You left the pedestrian bridge too soon! You've been catching passing trains recently. Great catches.👍
Lately I have caught a bunch of passing trains. I used to not see that very often. I think its because I have been hanging out near Cincinnati more on this line and the area north of Queensgate
The original name of Dunsmuir, CA, was Pusher. It was where another locomotive would be added to help push trains up the Cantara Loop, after which it would run back down to Pusher to be ready for the next northbound train.
Reminds me of Helper, Utah. Was a great place to watch DRGW locos after the UP/SP merger. 👍🏻
Ns has forn power on there trains a lot
Awesome footage. :)
Nice shooting JT! Cool horn salute from the Norfie, I’m sure they know it’s you ;) hats off fir picking up the trash !
I enjoy seeing trains on the hill, but I have an irrational dislike for the green and brick building in the background. I find it a distraction. The shots from the pedestrian bridge are more to my liking.
Hello Chessie and Norfie!
I like to express my esteem: congratulations passing 100,000 subscribers, must be more nowadays, true?
Thanks! Yes, I beat that goal by almost 2 and a half times. I still can't believe it. I remember getting excited when I had 4 thousand subs. Its pretty nice!
@@JawTooth Thanks for answering. I appreciate that.
Great DPU shots today, thanks as always 🚦📸🌎🗽
The drag Goin downhill sure did correct operations , they was able to stop on demand . Good job to train crew . Hey did you notice that nice pine scent from those BNSF units ? Operating in the mountains ya know .
That was great with the horn salute. It seemed to take a minute or two past you.maybe the conductor said to the engineer, hey,do you know who that is? Give him a salute! Those trains were pulling hard.
Great good video, mr Jaw Tooth.
Not only in the U.S.A. are people how dump there trash and other shit. This happens also in the Netherlands 👎👿👺. Greet from Zandvoort the Netherlands 🇾🇪🇺🇸.
😊the lok 4646 is bransnew so to see.thanks for the video JT. have a nice weekend. its warm here 18c.the beer 3c,lol. greetz:🍐Peer.cheers!!!!!!!!!!🍻👍👍👍👍
Today it is 60F here and it was raining but now the sun is out
@@JawTooth Ha Brian, yes the summer is arived, but slow. Greetz Peer en Tony.
great job on the videos fr SE KY
The hole in the bridge there isn't necessarily vandalism. You can see that the concrete as a whole is quite cracked. It may just be freeze-thaw damage from water getting into those cracks, plus the pressure of the rebar rusting.
I noticed in the background a federated auto parts store. I work for that company in outside sales. If you need anything for your car they are the place to go. They have some pretty cool merch with different cars and other vehicles on them. And also die cast cars too. Maybe I can send some your way if you would like.
Good video jawtooth
thanks Dan!
@@JawTooth ur w
Gave this video 2 plays! Thanks for making a great railfan channel. Good job of shooting thru the chainlink. You Sigler be a cinematographer, except don't work alec baldwin! Wouldn't end well.
Great video always and nice areas too for trains
Thanks!
Lots of foreign power. Second train a rebuilt SD70-3 DPU? Long hood forward like back in time on the NW! Last train; awesome long mixed freight with some new ADM hoppers too...(great shot of new NS coil car...and the red, all original, classicConrail coil car behind it!) Awesome video, you always have the coolest places to spot!
(PS: PLEASE be careful with the trash, don't need to get cut or poked.)
Thanks for watching! You're right about the trash. I got cut on a piece of broken glass a few years ago and have a scar on my right hand.
Good job on video buddy
Thanks!
1:40 Dynamic braking
You do mean 'working their butts off' in a figurative speech way, don't you? Or, have I missed the locomotive anatomy lesson? Now I'm confused with respect to the NS 'Rat Hole Line.' I was hoping to have a tranquil Saturday, Señor Jaws. You went done changed all that. Gracias por tu video. RT sends, Puebla, México...
Lol, thanks for watching !
You mention in the description that the video somehow uploaded in 720p, despite being shot in 1080. The difference is noticeable to me, to the extent that I noticed I was watching a lower-resolution video and went to settings to try to fix it -- I'd assumed it was on auto and had lowered the resolution because of a bandwidth problem. Even on a small laptop screen, I find the 720p images lack detail. Anyway, still a good video to watch.
❤️❤️🤯👍👍
thanks for watching !
Why was the Mickey Mouse so scary lookin? Haha, also nice cat
😊👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks!
I wonder what the new CNKCS paint scheme is going to be?
You mean CPKCS

old CNW hopper behind engines
Sounds like he send RI
Good catch. At 4:08, what is that covered hopper used for? I see many of them 4 bay hoppers with the TILX reporting marks with black streaks coming down the sides.
That is a 4 bay Vera Sun Energy covered hopper car that is used for hauling grain. Thanks for watching my video!
