    "why is changing the fluid for your differential important[?]"
    Because all oil eventually wears out and loses its lubricity. Oil is incredibly cheap compared to repairing or replacing the mechanicals.

    Most probably not a mechanic, look at those clean hands and shiny watch! Service manager that gets commissions on how much repair is done, while mechanics get low flat-rate hours.
    But yes, do your fluid maintenance.

    Here's the reason you change the diff. oil. Get the, what looked like ATF out of it, put 80wt. in it. My 97 Ford F150 came with that crap in it. I asked my mechanic, what would happen if we put 80-90wt in it instead? He told me, it would run quieter, smoother, and you never have to replace it. That was 180,000 miles ago.

    • @Amanda-ok2zv
      @Amanda-ok2zv 3 месяца назад +2

      No oil is "indefinite" all oil breaks down over time. 75-140 is what that diff calls for and honestly that's a better quality oil than 80wt is so putting in something other than that would probably damage it gradually over time unless it's a pavement princess and you don't use the 4WD for anything other than the snow

    I have a 05 Silverado with 176,000 miles. I bought it at 121,000 miles. I not sure if the Diff. Fluid has ever been changed. Is it safe to change it now?

      Diffs and transfer cases are usually safe to change the fluid on no matter how overdue they are. Transmissions can be damaged if you change out the fluids when they're too far overdue. That being said, you can go over by maybe twice the amount or so of the recommended maintenance interval without the FLUID CHANGE ITSELF harming the transmission. Overrunning your transmission by twice the interval will absolutely damage the transmission even if you can't notice or see it. You also don't want to change out the fluids on a transmission that is already having problems such as slipping or skipping because it definitely won't solve those problems and it'll most likely make them worse

    is it normal to change the rear differential fluid with only 14,400 miles ?

    • @bradbird8913
      @bradbird8913 5 лет назад +2

      It depends on what your manual states as the initial fluid change( varies based on make and model). After that you will have a interval based on a normal driving habit/conditions which tends to be a longer interval and then there is also a shortened interval based on severe driving habits/conditions( example of this would be constant hard acceleration/braking and aggressive high speeds).
      The intervals can be based on other components not fluid based as wheel example bearing/boots/spark plugs so on.
      That's why it's always good to give your manual a look through in the maintenance pages that way you'll have a better grasp on what you need replaced or inspected and when these items need those inspections or replacements.
      I hope this helps.

      No, absolutely not. I had mine checked at 40k and Toyota service said it was very clean and doesn't need to be changed. The first dealership wanted to change it but they are known for money grabbing.

    • @luiscastillo8416
      @luiscastillo8416 5 лет назад +2

      @@jimbush80528 Yea I was thinking the same. I believe that the new Honda cars with the maintenance minders are made to give the dealer money. I put a a full synthetic oil on my car and the maintenance minder came on with only 3,200 miles on the oil & the oil should last 5,000 on normal driving. My moms rav4 last 9,000 miles almost 10,000 before the light turns on for a oil change on full synthetic oil. After this car I am going back to Toyota and staying with Toyota they are more reliable than any other car out their without a daugh't.

    • @MattyLight30
      @MattyLight30 4 года назад +3

      I say yes and consider all factory fluids (Diffs, Trans, T/C, PSF) as break in fluids and should be removed around 12-36K miles. The sooner you remove the break in factory fluid with chips/debris and replace with superior aftermarket variants, the better.
      But go 30-60K after that.
