I just installed a similar type of spoiler on my 2017 Stingray. an ACS Composite Z51 spoiler, This video was of great help to me. I could not have installed it myself without the help of this video. My only deviation from the video was that I drilled the holes before removing the rear facia. Thanks for posting the video.
Thanks for the video. Saved over $200 doing it myself. Some tips that worked for me, first thing is drill the holes, while the bumper is still on. Place the template then you can set the spoiler on the car and make sure all of the bolts line up on the template and it's exactly where you want the spoiler to sit. The template can be moved a bit, but with the spoiler sitting on top of it, you know its in the right place. Drill a small pilot hole, with a regular bit, but stop as soon as you're through. I actually used regular bits and one 4 sizes smaller than the 10mm suggested, because my holes were so precise. Dropped right in the holes. Another thing I did, on the tail lights, I just removed the top and inner screws. The bottom one I just loosened it up and was able to get the light out of the way. The rest was just like the video. Did it myself without any help. Took about 1.5 hours, but I went very slow, so I didn't screw anything up.
It doesn't surprise me they forget to put a spoiler on. I bought a 1998 Corvette Indy Pace. The car had 7 miles on it. I pushed the clutch in to shift into 2nd and the clutch pedal fell off. I was 2 miles from the dealership. Service manager personal drove up, he said the factory only installed 1 bolt and it was very loose. Needless to say I wasn't very happy. The dealer took care of it. On Monday Dave Hill personally called to apologize. That's why Corvette is King!
I wanna thank you for doing this tutorial vid Mike! I simply couldn’t have done this on my ‘16 1LT without it. There are no other videos available on YT that I could find. There are a few things I could add to anyone looking to do this that would be “warning signs” if you will. Just a small addition to what you’ve done. But overall, I would have ZERO clue where to even start!!! Best of luck to you on your new venture too buddy.
bought mine from someone that replaced his with a wicker bill. didn't have a template, put a tiny bit of funtack on each bolt on bottom of spoiler gently pressed it in place and funtack stayed on vehicle. I then drilled through the funpack.worked well. didn't watch the whole video so I found out the hard way you should to remove the taillights as well. Wasn't till my 23 yr old came home and said "why not remove the taillights" . Duh. most difficult part for this DIY'r was drilling through the car. was so afraid of making a mistake. looks great
I ordered mine without a spoiler as well. I like them with or without the spoiler but almost all vettes have a spoiler so I think the vette almost looks more unique without the spoiler.
Mike great post but what a PIA. I want to swap mine and knew this was the process but your title gave me hope that I was missing a shortcut. Not so much. Thanks for the post!
This is a great video. I have a dumb question. I see the part number for the template during the video but not the actual GM part number for the spoiler. Can someone please share that so I can order it? Also, I assume this is the same spoiler the Z51 package includes, is this correct?
Car came out great, it did take me some time cuz shit doesn’t ever line up, it’s amazing. Took me 2 1/2 hours only cuz I kept being too careful. Brad was doing customers car I was doing my own. And I have body color bumpers Mine isn’t black, whole car admiral blue Thanks again man. Love to send you a pic
HELP please - I will be removing the BIG C7 ZR1 OEM rear spoiler - and then there are two holes left in the third brake light lip where the vertical stanchions were originally mounted - does anyone know if there is a ready made plug that can be installed (and hopefully painted the body color). Thanks.
Chevy Dude I have it figured out & mounted, looks great but was a pita having never done it before. I very much appreciate you trying to help me & love your videos. I am now a proud subscriber.
Well it should be noticed. To tell you out of my opinion it seems that your blogs are better than a lot of those quote "bigger channels" just some of those guys lose touch from were they came from, stay soild and this time next year you will probably have thousands of more subs, later dude
Why does the mechanic feel that your trunk is his tool bin? He should put down paper or some type of protection when tools and other hardware are scattered throughout your rear hatch. A little respect carries on to doing a professional job. I had an alignment not so long ago and there where huge greasy hand prints on the driver door panel. Another time I had chips in the step plate on the rear bumper of my SUV. Cost me $75 to replace it after spending $3k on tires, brakes and lines. Just takes a little common sense and thoughtful care.
Great video! I'll be doing the install this week. Any reason you couldn't drill the holes before removing the rear facia, while the bumper is totally secure and not prone to sliding around?
@@jakeorion1993definitely have an expert body shop guy or the dealer install it we are doing mine right now on my 2017 C7 and it's super involved no way I could do this myself we actually had to take off the light when we drilled into the bumper just to make sure we didn't hit any important wires and screws
how much do you all charge for this spoiler to be installed? my dealere quoted 350 for labor only....but it only takes 20 minutes? that is some HIGH LABOR.
Next is the zo6 grill video I need, and then the duct video over the rear tires. Im a DYi guy but this car is confusing and I don’t wanna pay someone to do this. On the other hand I don’t wanna fuck up my vette. But with more demo vids, I can finally get those harder pieces on the car. Without paying an arm and a leg to do it.
One unrelated question for you. I make $4000/ month salary pay plus about $5000 a year in cash bonuses I pay $700 month in rent utilities in I rent a really nice place from a good friend. Im 26 years old and I don't understand how people younger then me working ordinary jobs are driving $70 000 trucks WTF am I doing wrong. Where do you sell Corvettes at?
Where does the 3m tape go on the spoiler & shouldn't there be some kind of sealant for the holes to prevent water from getting in?
