We have a 2000 C5 Z51. Was bound and determined to add a C6 Z06 to the fleet, but since I'll be driving it almost daily, decided on a 2014 Z51 Stingray in Crystal Red Tintcoat with 37K miles that I picked up last weekend. Love it a little more every time I get in it. It's performance is amazing, especially considering it isn't even the Z06, ZR1, or Grand Sport. And, as this video suggests, it's a gadget lover's wet dream. Only wish mine had the video recorder and Apple Car Play that came in later years.
This is a great list! I'm currently shopping for a 16-19 C7 (I really like the flat bottom steering wheel) and some of these features took me by surprise despite performing constant research over the past 2 weeks. Thank you for this!
@@SonsofSpeed I’m saving up for a 14-16 C7 manual. Question is Z51 or base ? I haven’t test drove either yet, I’m a year and half away from buying and don’t want to get tempted with borrowing more than I’m comfortable planning too. I’ve heard different opinions on the base is too soft and Z51 is too much for the street. I don’t plan on tracking it but will be driving quick on twisty roads but mostly (80% -90% of the time) will be street and highway cruising. Also is there a big difference in ride quality with 18/19 inch tires in the base versus 19/20 inch in the Z51? Especially in street driving ?
@@stephendibari5010 if you can swing it, we'd recommend a Z51 with the magnetic ride option. That will give you the best of both worlds on demand. The bigger tires will be a harsher ride, but they do a better job gripping in the corners and the mag-ride does a great job softening the suspension in touring mode.
@@SonsofSpeed thanks! I asked this question on both post. I wanted to make sure I got a response. Sounds like the mag ride option is very popular with Z 51 correct?
Previously, the Corvette had a perfect balanced axis load distribution of 50:50 thanks to the transaxle system. And now? We have a 60:40 distribution. Only advantage: Quicker acceleration at the start but that's it already. In curves, a mid-engine car will fly off the track/road if the driver is not experienced: "Mid engined cars are more dangerous than front-engined cars if the driver loses control - although this may be initially harder to provoke due to the superior balance - and the car begins to spin. The moment of inertia about the center of gravity is low due to the concentration of mass between the axles (similar to standing in the middle of a playground roundabout, rather than at the edge) and the spin will occur suddenly, the car will rotate faster and it will be harder to recover from. Conversely, a front-engined car is more likely to break away in a progressive and controllable manner as the tires lose traction" (Source: Wikipedia, Mid-engine cars, drawbacks). The front-engine Corvettes C5.R / C6.R / C7.R won so many times prestigious races against mid-engine "super"-cars like Ferrari, Lambo, Porsche etc. in Le Mans, Daytona, VIR etc. etc. Never change a winning configuration!

Excellent, welcome to the Corvette family and our channel! We'll be posting quite a few videos in the next few months on accessories for the C7, so stay tuned!

good segment, i have a 2014 Z51 3LT w/MRC. Agree with all your comments. My legs have given out to the point i had to get an automatic this time. And the rest of the C7 is so nice i am ok with the A6. I want to get the MRC update too, the soft ride is pretty lumpy for my CFO. God bless the seats too. My hip has a pinched nerve that has not acted up yet. I run in Eco most of the time. and if i need or want i can nail the gas to the floor and it roars off at 12 seconds in a quarter mile. after 8 corvettes over 50 years, this is without a doubt the best one ever. I may get over 6,000 miles this year and the car looks and drive like brand new. It paid for and I am retired so i can go anywhere anytime my CFO lets me.
36 years old with multiple herniations and nerve pain in neck and back so I appreciate this comment. I want something that stands out but doesn't hurt my back and pockets. I never owned a Corvette but the more I read these comments the more I'm convinced I should buy one.👍
2014 Premiere Edition owner here. Excellent list. Mag ride suspension is the greatest thing ever! As mentioned the car goes from touring car smooth to on rails stiff, it’s brilliant. 👍🏼 Pretty much the reason I got rid on my Nissan 350Z was the bone jarring ride. It was so bad the wife refused to ride it. The C7 is so smooth it’s not even comparable. This along with the performance exhaust are MUST have options. Buying a C7 without these would be a huge mistake. Sadly my 14 doesn’t have PDR 😓 the ventilated seats aren’t that great, they are not cooled, just fans circulating air, so kind of lame. The storage behind the radio is risky as that door is known to jam, so I don’t use it. The hatch is massive, like the video shows all my track tools fit. Wife uses for Costco runs as it holds double her Infiniti Q60’s trunk. I’ve gotten a max of 33 MPG during highway cruise using Eco (4 cylinder) mode. Functional aero shows they really engineered this thing, it’s built to perform. The targa top is nice, it’s like having a semi convertible. The top is light but a bit cumbersome. Rev match on the track and combined with performance exhaust is addictive. Customizable gauges are fantastic too, so much detailed information can be displayed. I too thought the HUD was a gimmick at first but now it’s feels like cars without are so last century. One thing you missed: the interior. I pretty much ruled out owning a GM product because their interiors were cheap plastic jokes, but the C7 is beautiful on the inside... suede, leather, aluminum and carbon fiber, even alcantara on the headliner. My brother has a Porsche and even he admits the C7 is on par.
I just got a C7…here to say that AFM (eco mode) on the A8 transmission is GM’s worst invention ever. Immediately bypassed it with a Range obd2 plug-in, but it’s still clunky. Having it go in and out of V4 and V8 is just ridiculous.
Just picked up my 2019 z06 today. Unbelievable beauty. Love it. Glad I still had the chance to buy a new c7. I do think the c8 is on the next level. Just doesn’t work for me.
@@billiebobbienorton2556 I am looking at several options.. I have a C5 and a new street bike (both garage kept for trade). The other issue is financial and it's looking like I am several months out.
Great video, been dreaming about getting a c7 GS since I drove one a couple years ago, one of the funnest cars I've driven. I can't wait to comment on this video some time from now when I finally get one 👍🏽
Hmmm, I have a 2002 Silverado and even it raises the volume on the turn signal “click” (a hard of hearing guy like me even hears it) if you leave it on too long…..
I wanted to add that my 2019 Grand Sport 7 speed manuel gets 31 miles per gallon(!) in 7th gear cruising at approx 82 mph!! This is after adding a cold air intake, custom performance intake manifold, long tube headers with cat delete, also an X-pipe, and adding an E-85 (Flexfuel) sensor with an E-85 tune. My GS generates approx 565 rear-wheel horsepower, and sounds to me much more unique and fearsome at full throttle than all the flat-plane crank Mustangs out there.
Such a phenomenal car. Sold my 2014 Z51 due to wrong choice of transmission, but I'm eager to get me another one this time with the 7MT. This car gets so many things right, it's the bargain of the times at mid-$30k for a lightly used example.
Turn signal warning was on the c6 as well. Only thing I miss on my c6 and wish it was on my c7 z06 is turn signal showing up on HUD like the c6 had. The other is, why the heck does it not have blind spot monitoring sensors!!! Car this nice, it would have been a nice touch. And no, I would not do the aftermarket setup.
A good overview of the C7, but the only thing in your video I take issue with is your comment that the C7 is the only vehicle that warns driver if the turn signal is unintentionally left on. I had owned a 1992 Plymouth Voyageur (minivan😀) with this feature.
Love the C7 and can’t wait for the new C8. One guy put his loaded hand gun in the secret compartment and the gun jammed the door. Had to take it to a dealership and pull half the dash apart to get it out.
Do you own it or rent it from the bank while you make payments? Nothing wrong with financing but unless you have the title in hand you don't own it, and if you do own it outright congrats its an awesome car
Thank you! As you can tell, we love lists, so check out this video on our new channel with the answer to your question: ruclips.net/video/fN0FLk_uXTY/видео.html
A question about the 7speed manual C7: in which gear does the C7 reach it's top speed ? I guess in 6th gear being the 7th an overdrive, though I was told the 6th gear being an overdrive as well...which means that,I presume, you get to top speed in 5th gear being 6th and 7th highgeared for better fuel economy. Thanks a lot !
How do we turn off the on star lights which appear on the rear view mirror at night. Many times at night when we glance up at the mirror looks like the police behind you??!
I daily commute in it and I drive it on long trips across the country and nothing passes it unless I say it's ok. My 2017 Stingray (Non z51) with a manual transmission and NPP exhaust, especially with the non runflat tires (2nd set of tires) has more grip , comfort, traction, and agility. Plus, there are over 2000 Chevy dealerships if I ever need service. 3 years and 30k with this Corvette has shown to be more reliable than my 3 bought new Toyotas. The dashboard as seen from looking through the windshield down is the shape of a stingray.
We're glad you asked! That is one of our very favorite accessories, and you can find out all about it in our video on the top 12 Corvette Accessories on our sister channel, We Are Motor Driven: ruclips.net/video/fN0FLk_uXTY/видео.html
Number 21: If you spend any time waiting at airport waiting zones in your car, or any other scenario, where you would have the hazards on, the C7 will stop that annoying clicking noise after a few minutes, while the lights will still flash.
Just got a 2016 Stingray Z51. Love it so far! Couple questions, does track mode have the best/fastest throttle response vs all other modes including sport? Second, does it "hurt" the car if you just drive in track mode all the time? I usually drive in sport a lot but kinda love the track feel and throttle response better. Just didn't know if it's bad for the car to just keep in track mode 100% of the time.
It won’t hurt the car to run in track mode, but if you hit a pothole or other road imperfection, you can more easily blow a tire and bend or crack a rim.
@@SonsofSpeed that's great to know! So, sport mode better then regarding potholes, etc? Just when in tour mode exhaust too quite and in 2016 I don't think there was a work around for that.
@@scotty2221 the suspension gets progressively softer as you move to tour (the softest), but you can set the exhaust to always be in sport mode I stead of changing with the modes.
@@SonsofSpeed Good to know! On the 2016 Stingray Z51 I can go to settings and put display to always be in Sport mode (For the look only) however, the exhaust changes between modes with the turn dial. I do not see any options to keep it in sport mode with Touring Steering/suspension option to stay soft while the performance acceleration and exhaust is in the highest performance possible. Please advise.
Does the "Steering" make the suspension stiff also if you select track? Right now I have exhaust set to track, steering set auto so the "mode I select from the dial will change my steering/suspension on the fly for me correct if I don't always want to be in tour or track steering?
Just a few things to just love about the c7 Corvette Grand sport there's lots of rattles in the car behind the seat in front of the dashboard God knows where else not to mention that great fantastic torque converter that's going to give you plenty of pleasure staying at the dealership and hopefully it's still in warranty otherwise you might have to take a second mortgage on your house to get the transmission removed and replaced
For sure this car has its share of issues, and GM should really step up and take care of them (ahem, bent wheels…). Your issues are one of the reasons we really prefer a manual in the C7.
@@SonsofSpeed I've had a lot of high performance cars over my lifetime all of them have been manual transmissions it would have been nice to have an automatic for a change but facing all the problems with the torque converter I guess I'll be rowing my own again until the dogs come home
The good old days crawling under my LS6 454 1970 Chevelle black with white racing stripes and cowl induction to change the pressure plate throw out bearing and disc then it started to snow I couldn't even find my tools I had to stop
Right now it's a rumor, but apparently the transmission and differential are all in one unit, rumored to be DCT only :-( If enough people demand it, though, they will probably build it as they did patent a clutch by wire system recently.
It’s almost 2020. Manuel’s now are literally an outdated technology. Some people only want them because they think they are more fun to drive, but at this point, they are pointless to have. They aren’t quicker. Just an inconvenience if anything.
Except the shudder with torque converter and now I'm seeing torque tube breaking...why can't they build them without all these problems..just bought one 2 months ago and already selling it..
Just FYI, you have it backwards about nav/pdr. While you can't get pdr without nav, you can absolutely get nav and not pay for the additional pdr option. Great video otherwise!
Josh Todd actually, you can go through the configurator right now on corvette.com and you’ll see that if you add navigation, a window pops up saying it also includes the performance data and video recorder, and that the cost is $1,795.00.
@@sonsofspeed8624 huh, guess you're right. I stand corrected! I don't even see a nav option anymore, just adding the pdr. I guess people like me whined too much about having to pay for both nav AND pdr so they just put it in one package. Not sure when they changed it. in 2016 when i bought my stingray, they were 2 separate options and you could get nav without pdr. in 2018 when i bought my Z06, i just got a 3LZ which comes with it automatically so I didn't have to deal with it. probably a change for the better, really!
Never buy a C7 with the A8 transmission if you can avoid it. AFM (active fuel management) will ruin lifters, and going in and out of V8 to V4 is terrible.

I have a 2107 Gs collector # 44 , I love it
Love the C7 and can’t wait for the new C8. One guy put his loaded hand gun in the secret compartment and the gun jammed the door. Had to take it to a dealership and pull half the dash apart to get it out.
21st thing: I own one 😁
(And thanks for this excellent review)
You're welcome, thanks for the comment! We really made this for owners like you!
Do you own it or rent it from the bank while you make payments? Nothing wrong with financing but unless you have the title in hand you don't own it, and if you do own it outright congrats its an awesome car
JD: So true, but I just dropped my last payment in the mail, so I’m feeling pretty good right now!
@@boots_n_coots ya I want one, id love a z06 or even a zl1 but they arent cheap
The 21st thing is how sexy the car look & feel on 22/9 & 22/ 11 wheels.....
Nice video...thanks for posting! Lord willing, I'll have one in the future. ;)
Thanks
This list is outstanding! On #20, I noticed the phone holder. Where did you find that itemand what brand is the best one you've seen?
Thank you! As you can tell, we love lists, so check out this video on our new channel with the answer to your question:

I own a ZO6 2017 and love it! The new C8 is a revolutionary machine but not yet ready to part with my Z.
I have an '18 Z51, I'm not wanting to part with mine either.
A question about the 7speed manual C7: in which gear does the C7 reach it's top speed ?
I guess in 6th gear being the 7th an overdrive,
though I was told the 6th gear being an overdrive as well...which means that,I presume, you get to top speed in 5th gear being 6th and 7th highgeared for better fuel economy. Thanks a lot !
5,6 and 7 are all overdrives.
How do we turn off the on star lights which appear on the rear view mirror at night. Many times at night when we glance up at the mirror looks like the police behind you??!
THE CAR GUY 70 omg I thought I was the only one that noticed that. That bugs the shit out of me.
Doris is the best seat cover for your Vette
What corvette is this? Stingray? Or z06?
Great video, thank you. Can you please tell what phone mount you are using and where to get it. Thank you
jeryart thank you, and that would be the ProClip mounting bracket.
@@SonsofSpeed thank you sir!!!
I neeeeeeeed iiiiiiit
Turn signal warning has been around for many years. My 95 cadillac had it.
Love ❤️ it
When i get mine in auto imma enjoy it
THE CHEVROLET CORVETTE IS THE BEST CAR YOU CAN BUY...
IT IS A RACECAR RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX.
👍
Targa even available on Z06. Convertible available on z06 and ZR1. 😉
Can all C7s do that flash display thing with their front and rear lights?
Yes.
Weird question… can you tell me what phone mount you use? . I see it at the 16:00 mark and it looks perfectly located.
We're glad you asked! That is one of our very favorite accessories, and you can find out all about it in our video on the top 12 Corvette Accessories on our sister channel, We Are Motor Driven: ruclips.net/video/fN0FLk_uXTY/видео.html
On the stick
It
Looks like it shows what gear you re in ?
Patrick D the top of the shift knob shows you the pattern, but the dash display and the HUD will show you the actual gear you are currently in.
Number 21: If you spend any time waiting at airport waiting zones in your car, or any other scenario, where you would have the hazards on, the C7 will stop that annoying clicking noise after a few minutes, while the lights will still flash.
Jack Dawson didn’t know that one, thanks Jack!
I didn't know that. But I did know that for decades that clicking sound has come from the radio.
@@WaybackRewind not from the radio, from the speakers
@jackdawson3983 no the radio makes those sounds.
@@WaybackRewind the radio doesn't make the turn signal clicks. Turn the radio off and see if the turn signal still makes a noise.
1:47 Custom Gauges
Can you turn the HUD off?
Kebert Xela yes, by turning the brightness all the way down.
@@SonsofSpeed correct.
My 2006 Silverado tells me my turn signal is on for a long time as well.
I remember when the '55 Thunderbird came out. You could compare it to the '55 Corvette. Wow Ford you blew it.
You wrote a love letter lmao
We love the C7 because my late husband would make passonate love in the hatch area. He was a horney devil.
Bro?
No! They wouldn't dare get rid of manual transmissions.....would they?
Right now it's a rumor, but apparently the transmission and differential are all in one unit, rumored to be DCT only :-( If enough people demand it, though, they will probably build it as they did patent a clutch by wire system recently.
Vicky Vain yes its coming
It’s almost 2020. Manuel’s now are literally an outdated technology. Some people only want them because they think they are more fun to drive, but at this point, they are pointless to have. They aren’t quicker. Just an inconvenience if anything.
G.M forgot one item, a built-in Radar.
Too bad the 2014 C7 doesnt have some of those.
These guys need to get out a little more, I had Heads Up on my ‘98 C5
Except the shudder with torque converter and now I'm seeing torque tube breaking...why can't they build them without all these problems..just bought one 2 months ago and already selling it..
Todd Gallagher that’s one reason the manual is better.
@@SonsofSpeed guess I'll go trade in for a manual then...
You can drive it every day and it has a huge trunk for a sports car
Well, a better way to drive a corvette on a nice day is a convertible. ;-)
You forget to talk about 1lt,2lt,or 3lt.
Never buy a C7 with the A8 transmission if you can avoid it. AFM (active fuel management) will ruin lifters, and going in and out of V8 to V4 is terrible.
