- Sometimes things just don't go as planned, at first, but in the end you are a lot happier about it. That's how I'm feeling this week about things. Perhaps a little upset and venting here but all is good. Thought I was gonna sell this bike, didn't happen and felling good about that, not the right guy at all. I have also been in touch with some wonderful like minded guys on RUclips and "BROKE 1000" Subscribers this week.
For those of you who remember Monty Pythons Flying Circus you will remember this song "Always look on the Bright Side of Life...followed by whistling". Then you get how I feel today. Just be Happy. Life is Short. Wishing the best to you all out there and thanks for your support for our channel.

Beautiful bike. I'm fixing up a 71. With some work it'll come out nice. Keep it. When the right person comes around, it'll find a new home, until then it's a jam in the shop.
71 Nice project. A few little differences with the 70 to 72 than the later models. Oil pumps being the main issue, very specific for those years. You cannot put a later pump on, with out modifications. I think S&S makes one specifically for those years. There was also a very early bulletin about the cases. I remember something about the oil hole to the main bearings being to small and should be enlarged to 1/4 in from 3/16ths I think. You could only do it if the cases were apart of course but an important mod if your down there. Probably was a contributing factor as to why the race had moved in the cases I showed. To little oil and bound up the main bearing. Good luck with the project! Thanks for the comment and subbin to our channel!

A little over the edge for me but I am sure there a lot of people who have had the same sort of experience over the years. Hoping I did not offend anyone. Just saying it like it is. Heads up for Hippie and Slick ! Those guys have mentioned me a lot and I owe them greatly for that. They have helped me grow and I will get even. Nice to hear someone is enjoying the tunes as well. Its hard to pick just the right ones, at times, and a lot of extra work to get them all in there but I think it makes it much more enjoyable watching. Man, i absolutely enjoyed watching this video. Seeing an old shovelhead come alive after its been dormant for a while, gets my blood pumping. It sucks that clown jerked your chain and didn't buy the bike, but he didn't deserve to have such a fine machine. Is that a lowrider? Also, man thank you for the shout out, much appreciated. Welcome to the channel. Those eary Evo's are great motors and easy to make a more HP with small modifications. All they ask is keeping regular oil changes and your golden. I have had many apart at over 100,000 kms that only need a little ball hone and rings, if they were taken care of. They last along time. Good luck with yours. Thanks for the comment!
Ralph, love the channel I have a 1976 FLH that I’m restoring. I have gotten so much info from your work on Gus’s bike. I don’t have a bike shop but believe me A holes show up at every business.

That's a beautiful bike he definitely did miss out! I really don't understand people like that . I would feel terrible wasting someone's time I could never bring myself to do that. And it's pretty damn obvious that the bike is in great condition and has been taken care of so I don't understand what he was worried about to begin with.
His worries were unnecessary, and when my own integrity was question that was it for me. Just a nervous old poser who, had a couple of bikes I guess, but realized he really knew nothing and could not handle her, but was to small to admit it. His loss ...my gain. Didn't need to sell it and do not need to now. Thanks for commenting!

That shovel head is very nice. I understand you being pissed off. Gone are the days when you look a guy in the eyes shake his hand and a deal is done. I too own a motorcycle shop and it is a one man shop. I do not sell bikes like you do. I focus on the rebuilds, repairs and servicing. I check my customers by letting them talk, you learn more about the person by listening and if I do not like what I hear I just tell them I do not have the time. It is not that I am being arrogant. I just do not have the time to deal with customers that i do not have a good feeling about. If they tell me they have a quote from another shop I just tell them to go there as they are trying to get something for free. My motto is cheap is not quality and quality is not cheap. Keep doing what you do. Love your channel.
Thanks. I do not regularly buy and sell bikes either. Only customs mostly that I built in the past. I have acted the same as you in many situations. It is hard being an independant . Sometimes hard to get the support needed in the eary years, and to sustain you for the long run. But if you survived these many years then you are doing something right. Going with your gut feelings, and standing behind your word, and quality work. Some things are lost today but there are many , such as yourself, that still live and believe in a mans word and the value of a handshake. Love the moto. Glad you are enjoying the chanel. Well thanks Slick, its the least I could do. I could pull it out .... but you can't take any pictures ha ha . I'm just an old school guy and was raised to believe in your word and a handshake. My old grandfather used to say to me "If your word is no good ... it will never be forgotten and you won't amount to anything" I did not forget and have lived my life by that. Hey Ralph, I completely understand, how that made you feel, have had similar things happen to me, pretty common thing, I used to advertise and that can definitely drive you nuts, where one person out of the enthusiastic 15 talkers shows up with cash in hand. Very hard to get money out of a restored bike, therefore I prefer buying and keep as long as it now goes. What is even worse is selling something to someone who really wants the bike to then turn around and try to re-sell it after a couple of months, thats even more of an insult. Hold onto it, one day it will go to someone who really deserve it, I know what it takes to build a bike to that extent. Nice channel look forward to more cheers John

Delkron cases have a habit of doing that, I've heard that they can be fixed, pretty involved though .
I guess anything can be fixed, if there is the place to do it. Beyond my capabilities.

I do have a shovel...i bought it in bits...i had the engine rebuilt about 10 years ago but just can never seem to find the time to build the bike...oh well il hopefully get around to it some day...

That guy did you a favour, he didn’t deserve the bike anyway. It’s looks to be a really nice bike. I had an 81 low rider in black and silver 25 odd years ago and wish I’d never sold it. Keep it or sell it only to someone you know can look after it in the years to come.
You are right. There will come a time when the right guys shows up, who will respect and treat the old gal right. In no hurry at all to sell her now. Will not make this mistake again. I mean, you should only buy bikes like this when you either have the confidence you can fix everything yourself or you have enough money to get stuff fixed by a mechanic. We’re talking 40 year old bikes here. I got 3 shovelheads (81 fxb, 82 fxb, 83 fxdg) and have the confidence I can fix everything myself. And if not I got money to have things fixed. With the depreciation saved from not buying a new HD every 3 years, I got enough money saved to buy a new S&S motor and transmission, if need be. The 81 and 82 were running when I bought them, the 83 was not. But I had enough confidence in my skills.
You are correct. These old machines are NOT for someone who thinks they are something brand new and you just press the button and go. They all require constant care and upkeep. An I think those, like yourself, know and understand that and appreciate what they are. Old tech but so sweet to own. When I ride them I always think of the journey they have been through in all the years. Just glad to be part of that journey. Thanks for commenting!

Hey Ralph...sorry to hear about your woes. Is it possible this old guy was just a little awkward and really all he wanted was to be around your shop and your knowledge and talent? I know that years ago, when I was just getting into harleys, I was awed and starstruck and quite frankly intimidated by the lifestyle and those who lived in it. It made me feel awkward and I asked stupid questions trying to understand. I needed to calm down and chill. Maybe this guy, although older, was experiencing the same kind of thing? 2 cents.
You may be right but after a year of "I want it, get it ready, I want it now" my own pactience level was done. We all have bad days , and I have them to, but it was just a bit much for me at the time. Thanks for the comment.

You've been around HD a while, you got soft. No good dead goes unpunished. My past 45+ years riding Harleys I'm done selling them, I trade them in. I tell people you want to meet ignorant try selling a Harley! By the way very nice dual disk HD that hasn't been tore up in 40 years.
