Karen’s father has a lifetime experience in cutting down trees, and he did say that you never really know in which direction they will fall. From the bend and the weight, you have an idea. I was able to break the fall or change the direction by putting a rope around the trunk high up. By some of them were too heavy. Bo
Karen I love the welcome sign! Beautiful work. Bo the tree cutting and roof replacement looks like a lot of work. You always stay calm throughout! Good for you. 👍
Thanks Donna. Yes you’re right, it was a lot of work to cut up all those trees (17 + the dead one), then remove it and stove it in the shed. It took seconds to destroy the roof tiles, and it took hours to replace them. But we also learn every time we do something new, and then we get faster. Going into the tree cutting, I thought we would have more directional control, but I was wrong. Bo
It is great that your dad could help with the trees. Great job on the tile repair, Bo. Karen, you are right. Greeting people by name is very important to the customer. It is the best opening to any communication. ❤
I love the idea of planting a tree for each family member who visits. How special for them and you both. The welcome sign is a great way to recognize a new visitor to the chateau. You are so right. Addressing someone by name is so welcoming. Another fantastic video. Deborah NC😊😊❤❤
Love your family orchard of remembrance! Proud of your flexibility and courage to take on aspects of your business that are not in your natural comfort zone …and to do them with organization and precision with an eye to making them easily understood to your French accountants! I expect THEY also appreciate your attitude and attention to detail. Lovely to have your dad able to help Bo in the huge task of maintaining your extensive grounds…definitely not a one man job!
Are the types of tiles, still readily available in the shops, or will you have to build up a replacement supply from brocantes etc,? Having grown up in the countryside and having to rely on wood for heating, cooking, hot water etc., it brings back great memories to see you collect spare wood, cut it and stack to dry. My father was still cutting and chopping wood in his 90's.
We only have the extra tiles you saw in the video. According the architect, those tiles were made back in the 1950s or so. We are planning to install 3 woodstoves on the ground floor in the future. Bo
Loved seeing you and Bo again! I am sure it was a treat to have some family visiting. Your dad is quite the worker. The fruit trees are a lovely gesture to those who are important to you! ❤❤❤
I enjoyed another episode. I have a little suggestion, although it might be too late now, but something to think about in the future should you make another sign. Having been a preschool teacher for many years I learned to try to make comments positive rather than negative. So saying “Remember check out is 10 AM” feel better than saying “ Don’t forget”. Hugs from BC, Canada
What’s the difference between “remember” vs “ don’t forget” I can tell you have good intentions but I honestly do not understand that ‘Don’t forget” is negative ?
@@donnablake5358hi! Good question: you are telling people the behavior you want them to demonstrate, rather than the behavior you do not want to see. It is setting a positive expectation for guests to say ‘remember..’
Thank you for this suggestion and explanation. It is something I need to use with my grandchildren. I don’t want them to receive a subliminal message that my real expectation of them is that they WILL FORGET. It affects their attitudes about themselves. I have often watched it come to pass that if you show sincere positive expectations of people, they will rise to the occasion and prove your belief in them is justified.
You are in need of a generous stock of old tiles. As I am sure that you will need some in the future from time to time. You are working very hard, as always. Well done. The stock of logs looks great. Good job!
The reason they forget a 10 am checkout time is because it isn’t the normal time. It’s always 11 or even noon. I’ve never seen a 10 am checkout time. 🤷♀️
It is normal at Queen’s Escape. Every B&B sets their own rules. For us: Breakfast 8 or 9 and checkout at 10. We have to have time to clean before new guests arrive.
@@queensescape I understand it is normal for you and you want the time for cleaning. Have you looked at all the other Bed and Breakfast and determined their checkout times?
Karen, I love your accounting system, but I suggest you have a third folio set up the same way, just in case the accountants fall behind, or something goes wrong. (I am a person who always believes in a backup, and would rather have a spare and not need it, rather than having to panic under stress.)
I did. I appreciate you supporting that. RUclips changed their algorithm a while back and the earnings went way down. We just want enough to cover the software to make the videos. 😊 And so many nice people like you told us they didn’t mind.
Fliesen ? Es sind bestimmt Dachziegel gemeint. Es stimmt, Dächer müssen dicht sein, sonst nimmt das Haus auf die Dauer der Zeit Schaden durch eindringende Feuchtigkeit.
Karen’s parents will be building an apartment. Bo is building a workshop. We will have videos for each of these. As for the upper floor, Karen would like to make a multi-purpose room with kitchenette and bathroom for large group events. 😊
Karen right now a lot of places have clearance on their flowerbulbs bought a bunch and I plant them in pots and burry them in the earth so when I need to move the bulbs all I need to do is pull up the pots less disruption in the growing process and less work bulbs can stay in pots for a long time just a idea
It's for the pethricks about the new organ, sorry I must have been late getting it in while I went on to queens escape. Sorry again. I di like your comment about using the guests names as a welcome on the sign. Your location by the way is spectacular!
There is no such thing as French roofs because it all depends of the architectural style of the region which is protected. In the south they have tiles, some regions have slate in Normandy they might have thatch roofs. It all depends.
TIMBER - Ohhh. Not all projects are easy, but the good intention and the labour put into it deserves respect. 😮

Thank you for helping us understand what is required to run a bed and breakfast in France.

Nice to see your family there Karen.
I always enjoy your vlogs. They are so real.🤗🇨🇦

Thanks Deborah, those two ideas were both Karen’s. Bo
The family orchard is my favorite thing at the chateau right now. Right after the coffee machine. 😂😉
Still keep scanned copies of all your receipts just in case, as a backup.
I love the sign, so cheerful! ❤

Hello Jessica, Thank you, yes you’re right. We’re not even half way with our family orchard, so it will be big in the future. Bo
That’s the truth. We could use an army of helpers. Thank you so much for your kind words about the accounting.

Yes, Karen’s father is very active for a 74 year old. I would like to be that active when I turn 74. Bo

I hope you did not think I was being mean. Just want the very best for the two of you❤️

Great work, as usual, Karen and Bo.
good job guys , good to have so much firewood 👍 good bookkeeping work 😉
Thank you for a lovely interesting vlog .❤❤❤❤❤

Ha. Someone who wants more redundancy than me. I like it! 😊
Well done Karen. Better you than me!!
Haha.
You guys rock !
Use an systemic treatment for fruit trees, that being one you mix with water and apply to roots.
glad to see you changed your mind about the adds well done.
I did. I appreciate you supporting that. RUclips changed their algorithm a while back and the earnings went way down. We just want enough to cover the software to make the videos. 😊 And so many nice people like you told us they didn’t mind.

Ja ganau, dass stimmt. Bo
Great sign! What type of pens did you use?
I’m using colored chalk pens special for this hybrid chalkboard.
They're all planted to close.
From experience make copies of receipts for yourself
The fruit trees look to be about 3 metres or more apart, which is adequate distance between them.
Yep. They are 5 meters apart. 😊
What plans do you have for the stables?
Karen’s parents will be building an apartment. Bo is building a workshop. We will have videos for each of these. As for the upper floor, Karen would like to make a multi-purpose room with kitchenette and bathroom for large group events. 😊
Never cut mature trees yourself. People vastly underestimate the skill involved and sometimes the danger too.
Yes, that is why I’ve been waiting for Karen’s father to get over here. He has a lifetime experience in that. Bo
Are you going to power spray rafters in barn?
Do you mean to get off the moss stuff?
Your dad needs a hard hat❤
He should have a hard hat. Christmas is coming…
Need to get a beehive for your own honey .
We have talked about it a few times, but there’s no time for that right now. Hopefully in the future. Bo
This is TIP TOP of my list. They sell the supplies in the local hardware store. 😃
Karen right now a lot of places have clearance on their flowerbulbs bought a bunch and I plant them in pots and burry them in the earth so when I need to move the bulbs all I need to do is pull up the pots less disruption in the growing process and less work bulbs can stay in pots for a long time just a idea
That’s a great idea. Thank you!
It's a great idea to put it at the altar
Would you clarify? I want to be sure I understand.
It's for the pethricks about the new organ, sorry I must have been late getting it in while I went on to queens escape. Sorry again. I di like your comment about using the guests names as a welcome on the sign. Your location by the way is spectacular!
Never use synthetic spray to fruit trees use soapy water good luck.
French roofs are beautiful but too much labor and money.
There is no such thing as French roofs because it all depends of the architectural style of the region which is protected. In the south they have tiles, some regions have slate in Normandy they might have thatch roofs. It all depends.
All that growth and moss on the roof needs to go
Is do you get rid of it?
Yes, one day we will get to that too. Bo
