Hi guys, thanks for watching our first video. Really hope you enjoyed it, but more coming soon with latest footage. We're learning as we go. Please let us know if there's anything you'd like to see more of.
So much still to learn from others. We are just starting our journey later on in life and this is great inspiration. Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪 Grand job! Best of luck
Congratulations🎉 on the new cottage! It is lovely!❤ Oh, I dearly love your beautiful calico cats; however, you might wish to reconsider letting them loose outside, as cats are one of the most significant factors in the loss of birds. Perhaps you all might consider a catio or screened in outdoor patio for your cats.😊❤❤
Hi just found your channel. What a beautiful area you live in. I look forward to watching you do up the house. Love your cats❤ the birds are beautiful. Just subscribed from Australia
Really interested in your planting diary, as l just have an allotment, and little bit overwhelmed, so planting and when to seed and propogate is really handy. Thanks 😊
Oh gosh, organisational skills like this is a thing I struggle with most too! My planting and propagation habits always start with the best of intentions and then become increasingly chaotic to keep up with. I did develop something of a system in our last place, using a dedicated graph paper planner to map out my veggie beds each month (ahead of time) and mark what would go in each space, but I had to do it in pencil because I was forever correcting it to what *actually* happened. At Bramble Cottage I haven't begun thinking about that level of planning yet as we're still getting beds set up, but come spring I will be wanting to get started asap with tomatoes and such. - Stina
Totally glued to the screen all day, they've never had such a good view and the diversity of visitors it huge. Looking forward to spring to see all the new visitors.
Oh my all that work you have had to do there. Yes older houses come with surprises but really loved watching your video and seeing what you both have achieved. ❤😊
There's so much to do here but thankfully we love fixing things and learning new skills so every step forward is hugely satisfying. Really looking forward to seeing what we can do here. - Cameron

Greetings from Nova Scotia, Canada. I just wanted to mention that you can start seeds in winter. Google "winter sowing" where you can start your seeds in clear or translucent bottles, jugs etc. I just learned of this method of starting your seedlings without a greenhouse. Great for cold climate gardening.
Looks like a great project and lots of planting ahead. Love your cats. Maybe when they go outside they can chase away the rabbits. Sorry to hear you lost your job. Hope you will be able to manage. I like that you don't have repetitive music on your channel. Nice and calming to watch from New Zealand.
Hi from Scotland! We're hoping the cats will put the fear in the rabbits and keep them off the lawn, might try spreading some of the cats used litter near the rabbit holes, let them know who lives here now.
Good luck with your new home and food forest. It sounds like you are creative, energetic and realistic about creating your dream. The countryside looks beautiful, especially the bird life. Please keep your cats indoors to protect the wildlife around you. They are such expert hunters both day and night.
Thank you! We're looking forward to the results but we'll be enjoying the journey too! For the cats, we're pretty responsible and they'll only be making supervised visits out into the wilds and will be spending much of the fledgling season indoors.
Hi New subbie, first off I hope you are warm and snug as I remember the Scottish Winters all too well, I think you will have an amazing little homestead cant wait to follow along and see you go forward with your dream. Much love Dede xxxxxxx
I’m in Clackmannanshire and we moved to 120 year old cottage on a sixth of an acre two years ago. The cottage continues to need lots of work and the garden is gradually taking shape. Good luck in your new home. I look forward to seeing your endeavours. All the best. Mags.
I’m so happy you popped up on my RUclips. We’re wanting to relocate to Scotland after visiting for a number of years. We’d found our dream home up there but then hubby got sick with cancer (thankfully he’s in remission now.) and I lost both parents within months of each other and we both realise that life is too short to waste time. I was wondering if you could share the ins and outs of how you found your property, how you went about it and if you could share any tips or advice. We’ve visited many places in Scotland but our hearts lie in one place and it just feels like “home.” Thank you.xx
Congratulations on the remission!! Simply put, we moved to this area for a job (that ironically no longer exists) and we were renting in the area so we were keen to find something quickly. However, the sorts of places we'd hope for are few and far between for our budget. So when we saw this one we did our best to grab it. It's only because it's a bit run down that we had a chance at being able to afford it. It all really depends on where in the country you're looking and what sort of budget you have. The area we're in is a slow market and the agent was willing to tell us plenty about the preferences of the seller. With all this in mind we were able to put in an offer below the asking price and the rest is history. In areas with faster markets, or if buying at a higher price bracket, you hear a lot about offering way above the asking price, so experiences can vary greatly.
@@BramblesCottage Thank you for taking the time to reply. Where are you located in Scotland? Our hearts are in Whithorn (Dumfries and Galloway.) We're out on the Lockerbie side of Dumfries. Whithorn looks fantastic! Something will come up in the area you want, we found the market is reasonably slow in this area, but it's like anything, the really nice stuff goes fast! Good luck!
Congratulations on your new home, you talked about oil fired central heating. Have you also checked that? It’s got current modern day standards of loft insulation the more you insulate the more heat you’ll keep in the property.
Thankfully I had a list of things that I had a look at as soon as we moved in, the boiler was up there. Got it serviced as soon as I could. The loft insulation is mostly ok, there's a few areas that have gone a bit flat but mostly the insulation is in good order. We were lucky on that front.

I am looking at a second mortgage to do the same as you, so that I can transition without having to go into rented or storage. I like the push mower. Whilst I still have a petrol mower, I would like to shift to one like that, I know they have limitations and are not quite as effective, but I hope to design the garden accordingly so that I am not reliant on fossil buying petrol and a new mower.
The one thing with the second mortgage (which we're finding) is that the market is a little slow right now so selling the old property is taking a little time. Otherwise it's actually much easier than we had thought it would be. Re the Mower: Our little push mower has been stellar for us, generally we don't want much grass so it's totally perfect, the one thing is to just keep on top of the grass. Don't let it grow too long or you'll have a fight on your hands lol.
