The Deluxe Tinker is basically like the Mechanic SAK with the addition of scissors + package hook. It’s obsolescence makes sense since there is an upgrade in functionality presently offered.
Sadly we wouldn’t be allowed to carry that knife with those blades in most Australian states unless we had a “genuine need” for its use like camping or hiking or some craft or trade etc.
As a fellow Aussie I've gotta say that I've lived in many plades all over Aus and always carried a Swiss Champ on me and have never once been questioned by anyone. As long as you're acting sensibly no one has any issues.☺🇦🇨
@davidcoote4831 That's true for me, too. I've carried a Swiss Champ for years in Australia. Genuine need is suitably flexible to accommodate lots of reasons.
Received one of these with black scales from a tool distributor many years ago. Mine is slightly different it has a pen; it also only has the Phillips and cap lifter. It lacks the can opener, pen blade and awl. Always considered the pilers a novelty because I carried a Letherman.
Can Key? [3:03] Wow never noticed that tool. I've usually had a Champion [back-named ''Maxim''] or Swiss Champ. It would come in handy if your bully beef tin has lost its key..
I think the smallest one you can buy new and still get the pliers is the Deluxe Tinker, it's adds 2 more tools. It would be nice to have a thinner knife.
I got a few discontinued models too. Spartan serrated, huntsman plus, spartan lite, manager, mechanic , walker and a champion that i gifted to a friend because i already have a swisschamp, handyman, ranger. I prefer the the deluxe tinker to the mechanic, I find it i always use scissors the most.
I wouldn't mind a 3 layer model with pliers ; cheapest model now you can get pliers is on is angler ; but who in a 'mechanical' / 'tinker' mind wants a fish scaler.... so you end up being forced to get the models knocking 95 quid RRP. annoying. to solve that the customer is likely to go leatherman direction......
Looks great with that blue!
I think so too, thank you Randy
Great video Slippy. The Mechanic - looks to be a great pocket toolkit...... Who needs a Leatherman!!!
Welp I needem both 😮
Thank you Mark! It's one of my favourites
Awesome find, Slippy! Another blue beauty! You are making me want to swap out the scales on one of mine for blue scales.
Go for it!

Great toolset! I like the blue scales on there!
Me too!
Cool piece, and I like the blue scales👍Cheers, buddy!
Thank you! Cheers!
Excellent show my friend
Thanks for the visit
Great knife. Shame they discontinued it. Love the blue
Me too
I agree the pliers are a good tool in a SAK
100% Kathleen

@@davidcoote4831 Quite. It's really a multi-purpose tool. If someone intended harm it'd be very unlikely they would use a Swiss Army knife.
That's a real shame 😔
@@anthonywarwick6090 what a commie, socialist, authoritarian dictatorship you live in. Cant you guys vote in mew people and change the laws?

Good video, I had never heard about the "mechanic" model SAK
Glad you liked it!

Can key, as in for a corned beef tin, it's a European thing 😅
I have a mechanic with a corkscrew instead of the Phillips came with blue scales
Awesome
Nice piece.
Thank you kindly
I absolutely love it
Thank you Jason

Can you test those wire cutters on a low E acoustic guitar string for me?
Let me see what I can find
my favourite, this and the corkscrew version
Awesome
A few years ago Amazon were selling them at £22 I seem to remember! Wish I had got a couple!
Me too!
Please can you recommend a site to buy custom scales for my compact 🙏🏻
Amazon or eBay is where I get mine. Many sellers in Ukraine.
Etsy in the UK
This was discontinued probably because it's a scissorless version of the Deluxe tinker.
100%
Cool
Thank you
Are you interested in a swiss champ XLT I have for sale?
Yes I am indeed, email me SlipjointSawyer@gmail.com
Are these the original scales?
He already stated at the beginning of the video that the original scales were red.
Original was red 🙏🏻
@@blacksmith44 I missed that one. Not a native speaker.

It's coming
wow its blue color swiss army sir
100%
Delux tinker got the same tools
Deluxe Tinker has scissors too
I rather think having dirty hands fits quite well with the Mechanic. Have you ever seen a mechanic whose hands are not dirty?
Good point 😂
