Great review of a great knife. One trick I learned using the Rambler; with the blade open, open either the nail file or Phillips driver and you’ve got an improvised extension to the handle. Even better with both nail file and Phillips deployed. Gives you a better grip if using the blade for heavier or longer tasks
The Rambler is always in my pocket. Just the right number of tools on a little knife that doesn't even pull down my pajamas, when I'm bumping around the house.
@@SlipjointSawyer If you take apart one of those allen wrench fold-up pocket sets, you can carry just the ones you want. Then, since they are curled over on one end, you can use the "cap lifter" on your rambler for leverage to turn allen screws/bolts on a bike or Ikea furniture. (Put the lifter through the loop and turn so the pressure is not collapsing the tool)
I love it. A great upgrade from the regular Classic SD. The screwdriver is so universal and it's also magnetic, amazing. Like the author said, that's a simplified minichamp. Hope it never gets discontinued
It's a great toolset on a 58mm. Like many others, I picked up a Manager a couple of years ago to have the pen, but if/when I need to replace it I'll probably get a Rambler.
I prefer the Manager because you get the pen and don't ever need plus scales on 91mm stuff again, to have a pen. I carried the Rambler and it was my favorite keychain SAK until I got a Manager.
I love the rambler I have always preferred it over the classic SD having that screw driver comes in Handy so much having kids and using it on kids toys to change batteries the mini champ or rambler always lives in my 5th Jean pocket
Great review Slippy 😁 I’ve been carrying mine this weekend. I love the Classic SD, but this just makes more sense with it having that multitool feature. I’m sure it will get a lot of pocket time!
In short: yes. Slightly longer: yes, absolutely. One of the best available models. The Manager hasn't left my pocket for more than a handful of days since I got it years ago. (Manager was discontinued this year. It is a Rambler but has a pen instead of one of the scale tools.) Can stand for itself but is a great companion for other knives/multitools. Thx for the video, Slippy.
the Rambler is the absolute best of the mini range. I have the minichamp but the only tools I ever use are all found on the rambler model, The only tool I would take from the minichamp would be the extra blade as a spare.
It's certainly good value for money ! And like all SAKs, it has an aura of class and quality. Put all that together, and you have a great keyring tool in my opinion.
Every father should get one of these. Especially for Xmas! Makes unpackaging toys easy. Opens any battery compartment. It can just cut an apple up too when picnicking!!
Victorinox do in fact make a lot of nice keychain knives. After watching one of your videos, I bought a Rosecraft Awanata in black and I’ve been carrying it on my keychain. I really like it so far but I’ve only owned for about a week so far.
The climber is a tad costly than this....but with bigger blade and bigger scissors, should I go for that than Rambler when I already have the mini champ?
@@SlipjointSawyer the only improvement the Victorinox company could do to the RAMBLER is make the frames stronger by using stainless steel in place of the aluminum frames.
The Rambler is, far and away, the best 58mm on the market. That being said... I carry a midnite manager on my keys. I find the light to be very useful.
Except that the light is not bright at all. In pitch dark you may see 2 m far with trouble, but honestly: the led is a joke. I "downtuned" my Midnite Manager to a normal one: this reduced the thickness considerably and created room for one scale tool.
Great review of the excellent rambler. Dilemma: mini champ just a quid more on a UK site 🤔 Don't really want the extras on the MC but, will they prove to be useful in time. Classic first world dilemma 😅 Answer - buy neither as I have 58 mm SD classic... Thanks Mr Sawyer for sharing 🕊️
I’d love to have the Rambler but I’ve decided to get an Escort and a Jetsetter. I want to swap out scales to add a pen and a light so I have the whole kit and caboodle for the 58mm range. The pen swap is easy enough but does anybody know the light swap would work?
Victorinox JETSETTER and the small Cabela's $6 dollar multi-tool that has pliers are my favorite (EDC) every day carry tools. ✅ Both can function with the Leatherman removable bit-driver. The knife can be easily removed from the Cabela's multi-tool to make it TSA airplane approved! ✈
@@SlipjointSawyer I think you would get many views showing a detailed review of the capabilities of the small Cabela's $6 dollar multi-tool. The bottle cap opener on this multi-tool fits good into the Leatherman Removable bit-driver. I added a file to my Cabela's multi-tool that I removed from my broken Leatherman Squirt PS4 multi-tool.

It's a shame they discontinued the Manager. I bought a Rambler a few months ago and really love it but it would be great to have a pen as well.
Totally agree
Ive been carrying the SD classic for while now but yes I'd personally trade the tweezers for a pen
@@patrickbledsoe2176I find their tweezers almost unusable. Too flimsy
@@patrickbledsoe2176 Does it have the slot so you can customise it yourself and add in the pen?
On peut encore trouver le manager sur certains site, mais effectivement c'est dommage d'avoir arrêté la production car pour moi c'est le meilleur 58mm
The biggest problem Is the price. There Is a big differencies between rally and this One. 15€ vs 30€ (and more)
Yeah it's a big jump to just add a pair of scissors, but worth it in my opinion
@@SlipjointSawyer I agree with you the scissors are worth the extra price !

Yes. I'm configuring my minimalist urban edc by adding the rambler together with my new tourist.

Couldn't agree more!
I carry one on my key chain every day and absolutely love it
Awesome
I got one of these about a month ago now and I've been carrying on my keychain everyday; I like it a lot. Great review, Slippy! Take care and Cheers!
Awesome Toad! I'm loving mine
It's a great toolset on a 58mm. Like many others, I picked up a Manager a couple of years ago to have the pen, but if/when I need to replace it I'll probably get a Rambler.

I agree now that the manager has been discontinued in favour of the manager lite. The rambler is the best option in terms of size
Thanks Donald
I prefer the Manager because you get the pen and don't ever need plus scales on 91mm stuff again, to have a pen. I carried the Rambler and it was my favorite keychain SAK until I got a Manager.
Awesome! I'll have to check out the manager
I have carried a Classic SD for years. About a year ago I bought a Rambler. It is a great knife. I love the fact it has a 3D Phillips screwdriver.
Exactly why I picked one up
Great vid! Like that the knife and scissors are opposite the key ring.
Exactly! Soo much better
I love the rambler I have always preferred it over the classic SD having that screw driver comes in Handy so much having kids and using it on kids toys to change batteries the mini champ or rambler always lives in my 5th Jean pocket
It's far superior in my opinion
it's called polished stonewash finish on SAK's the last 20 something years after they went away from full polished finishes
There's just something about it that I really like 🙏🏼
This is a dang-near perfect SAK for me! Thanks for the vid. Hope they come out with more scale options for this one eventually.
I hope so too!
Great video! The Rambler may have to be my next SAK.
Go for it!

My first sapphire Manager was ripped off, so I bought a second one right away, but pocket carry Bantam alox and Manager stays more at home.

One of the best jeans watch pocket multi tools. Along with the Gerber Dime which I think is highly underrated for real world use.
