Yeah its kind of wild being natty and hearing about "good genetics" in bodybuilding. The majority of the earth isn't on steroids lmao its just a cope for juicers. the most famous ifbb pro doesnt even have big arms, its about social media now not the sport.

    • @emartinezr
      @emartinezr Месяц назад +6

Most of what Greg says applies to a lot people. He talks a lot about being obese or overweight... lots of people struggle to keep their weight under control.
Same with making muscle.... putting on 10lbs of muscle in a year is close to impossible to most people. Imagine if you start super skinny or fat, or have never even ran 100m... putting on 10lbs of muscle is TOUGH. Etc.
The internet "bodybuilders" criticize Greg because he keeps expectations low. Instead of doing the typical motivational speech. That motivational talk is actually demoralizing for most people. Some people are actually depressive... after 2 months of trying something super hard, they just fall off. Their mood swings and suddenly it's back to naps and ice cream tubs. If those people think most people can keep a 6pack and gain 20lbs of muscle, when they see their progress, they get demoralized. But actually, most people are actually like them! Most people struggle to keep a 6pack and gain muscle. It is a struggle.
It's the whole "mid physique" syndrome. Alex Eubank is almost a model hahah and yet people call him small, mid and so on. The dude is blessed and incredibly in shape. The internet is insane.

Being a natural for about 50 years now I don't worry about muscle size as much as muscle density and strength. I'm 70 now and as a RUclips influencer I always preach diet first and then consistency. Think of the gym as a playground that you can have fun in. Enjoy the journey. You need to be more concerned about when you get older not what you look like next week. Strength will help more then big muscles as you age.

Muscle density… there’s no such thing. Density is a measure of mass to volume. Muscles never increase in that way. One cubic inch of muscle will never get heavier, or become more dense. It’s science - medical science. Studied and proven science.

Problem for naturals are injuries, colds and other illnesses where you need to take a break. Getting back on track takes weeks, sometimes months.

And also the progress itself. Gaining muscle; staying lean; and getting actually strong takes a LONG time and an outstanding consistent effort.
A 315 lbs bench is massive. This would be an outstanding milestone for most people. Yet... social media makes it seem like entry level 😂

@@emartinezr Yeah this annoys me too. I am 30 years old and I am a beginner (4 months) in the gym. I do incline bench at the gym 42kg (92lbs) 3x8. I know I'm weaker than average but I used drugs heavily for the past 8 years and my weight was 60kg (132lbs) and I'm 6ft tall. Then when I stopped the drugs, my weight increased to 104kg (229lbs) but all the strength and muscles I had gained during my life were gone. Now I am 94kg (207lbs) and as strong as when I was 14-15 years old. But I'm in the gym 5 times a week to improve myself

That’s strange, I don’t get sick at all since I started lifting, running, and eating right with proper sleep to boot! I lift weights for myself, not to impress or compete with people.

@railasvuo I guess the drugs do destroy your body but I see no problem especially for your age to get good gains and come close to your genetic limit, also 4 months is nothing just keep at it train hard like you mean it and eat enough, I'm sure you will be amazed at the difference after a couple years of training when looking back

I’ll be honest and say that Greg saved me from taking steroids. I didn’t know much about the side effects at the time but contemplated taking orals since I was scared of the injections and getting some sort of infection. That said, I have been a life time natural and hit a 305 bench although I’ve lost some progress and sitting at 290 bench right now at 25.

I refuse to downplay my genetics. I was 175lbs running track in highschool at 5'9" about 10% body fat like actual 6 pack and road map forearms.
Both my parents passed down genes that gave me a massive edge, I am only now hitting the gym in my 20s, I had no idea how unique my situation was.
Having 17" arms after spending only 5 months in the gym is what I got from what I believe are top tier genetics. I definitely train hard but I know it's a lot easier for me than others.

Yep same exact scenario. 175lbs 5'10 . Ran 10.8s in my junior year of high school. In my first year and I look like nattys who have been lifting for a decade. It seems so easy but I think for most it's not.

@@itstheredwiggler5369 it's easy to take things for granted. I wasn't educated well on lifting as a kid and had no idea back then I was decently built for lifting.
You are spot on about looking like some who lifts from baseline, except my chest looks extremely mid until I work it lmao.
